And no, being generic isn't necessarily a problem. If that's all somebody makes it very well can be, but a generic trope done well can be just as good as something super unique.

That's part of her character and it's important.

On one hand, I've never once created, or otherwise designed, a character based off what I wanted them to be/do/look-like. I always end up making it as natural a process as I possibly can. I don't like my characters to be the epitome of what I like.

On the other hand, making a character that is the epitome of what you like isn't necessarily a bad thing. Many people can make that kind of thing work, even if I can't personally do that.

It kind of goes both ways, and I don't think either of you are wrong.

Were it something specifically unusually I'd agree and say it should need a reasoning, but defining parts of something cooperatively, through an assimilation of what the group creating it likes, is one of the best ways to do things.

Again, the point is that while you're right in that "because you like things" is not really an argument in the face of reasons NOT to do something, it's not actively a bad thing. What makes something a mary sue, for example, is various traits which are taken to the exclusion of good storytelling. Being overzealous about "poor form" in any medium is also a classic pitfall.
