More or less but there are interesting differences. China is not interested in direct colonial control but rely on local governments. China prefers to send its own laborers in Africa rather than rely on local labor. China seems much more interested in Agricultural resources than past colonial powers.

Also Chinese colonization is actually profitable while for past colonial powers it was overall a money sink. Probably because it's much more planned and deliberate.

China is hungry. They plan on getting a leg up in the world by exploiting Africa's resources for their gain. China is actually one of Africa's closest trading partners currently.

For big projects it's a lack of African specialists, Chinese chauvinism, and the frankly superior work ethos of Chinese. But there's also a lot of individual migration, having to do with gender imbalance in China (the African babes are getting RICED), and traders setting up shop for the direct sale of much desired cheap Chinese goods. To a lesser extent, Chinese are starting to tap into the large labour reserves in Africa as well, like building huge shoe factories in Ethiopia.

Africa is full of resources, but that doesn't mean the resources walk themselves to the ship. China needs to build the whole infrastructure and to do so they need men. China also has an interest in sending their excess men to Africa to create hybrids who will be the next African ruling class.

Because China can't possibly employ all its labour in its super productive factories, One Belt One Road is another attempt to creat work for Chinese workers.

The way I understand it is that Chinese emigration is seen as a way of mitigating internal pressure building up in China. But it is only quasi-official policy, most Chinese going to Africa are misfits, outcasts, prostitutes, and others who feel left out of China's social order. While they do bring a Chinese racist-imperialist attitude to the countries they are immigrating to I was surprised to find out that most Chinese who go to Africa feel much freer in Africa then they do at home and some find their adopted homes to be more of a home then their actual homes.

Imperialism, plain and simple. Still, what China's doing is miles better than what the west has been doing for centuries. China builds infrastructure and strikes mutually beneficial trade deals, France just demands Francophone Africa pay an 85% tax for "the benefits of colonialism" or else get bombed outta existence by NATO. Fucking faguettes.
