As a Brit I envy his sort of leadership role and would probably (at random) credit him for France seeming more French than Britain does British today.*
As a leftist I get the feeling he was probably a bad guy.
Also he was pretty stylish.

He was right about Britain not belonging in the EEC and I've always envied France for keeping an actual aircraft carrier instead of >A FUCKING RAMP, even if it is in drydock all day.
*This isn't a sort of Holla Forums muh immigrants thing, if anything I think it's probably because we speak English and thus got more Americanised.
