Military industrial complex is the first thing that comes to mind, but I believe there is a scaled down presence of US troops at this point. They're still there and increasing mind you, but yeah.

private military contractors

From the American taxpayer.

Afghans were imperial puppets of the west against the Soviet Union.

Afghanistan is a neocon job. While arms dealers and PMCs are making money off of it, the real goal isn't to profit off the war itself, but to forcefully restructure the country into a lassiez-faire corporate bordello whose resources and population can be ruthlessly exploited. Fortunately, the based Afghans, who have rekt every colonial force ever to enter their nation, will never let this happen.

MID, net extraction (imperialism makes sure that profits made there carefully incorporate a "reparation" to the US and US firms for their great efforts), geopolitical advantages that in and of themselves facilitate the former two elsewhere greatly.

The US government is milking the most prosperous country in human history to pay for bombs that will kill people in countries they think nobody cares about. All so they can pad the profits of a few fuckhuge military contractors.

heroin
military contractors

Now now, it's not just the contractors, but their lanyards who go on to land political careers :^)

I was trying to make it as clear and simple as possible. There are numerous other factors, like heroin as this guy said.

heroin is probably the main factor. afghanistan provides about 90% of the world supply. the drug trade was organized by the karzai regime. karzai was an american puppet.

poppy fields, lots of them

You're all retarded, first of all there's the fact that afganistan is the worlds number one producer of opioids think about big pharma in the us and how much it relys on opioids for production, secondly and in my mind most importantlt yet the most over looked aspect of it all… Afganistan the country is laying on top of some of the highest concentrations of rare earth minerals In the world that again big pharma along with the teck industry rely on it's literally just those two things GS right there nothing else

This guy gets it, there are completely untouched mountains there, with lots of cell phone parts just laying around in there

heroin trade funds the CIAs black budget because its non taxable. They run it through Muslim traders in Iraq/Afganistan/Pakistan/India through the anonymous Hawala transfer system for laundering.

They could run Halliburton at a loss for decades and the CIA would still run a profit for special interests.

Afganistan is also strategically south enough on the map to not have quite as much Russian cultural heritage and alliance as northern *stan countries especially ones that were part of the USSR so its the most geopolitically acceptable position for the US to occupy to fuck Russian souther expansion. This is pretty much why we see shit happening in Ukraine - Putin has no other fronts to work on. Originally this is why US overthrew afgans in the 60s 80s 00s. Now US controls them throu EU proxy.

Also Pakistan is an artificial country that was created with the partitioning of British India. The US position in Afganistan is to ensure geopolitical control over India by forcing them to focus on securing their border with Pakastan from terrorism.

This is because India is a nuclear capable country that could force the US into talks that would be more favorable for their manufacturing that would likely also aid China. The US fears an India/Chinese alliance so they continue to keep Pakistan independent by proxy and breed militant religious fanatics to fuck up progressive movements in Indian parliament.

Its literally a mirror of the situation we had in China with Vietnam. Its about securing the "Silk Road" and the Suez Canal and it always has been.

tl;dr war in Afghanistan ensures cheap Indian labor markets for US entrepreneurs

why do you think kashmir is equally as fucked as aleppo?

and if the US has the India/Pakistan border secure it can charge China fees to import their loot from their new African colonies or force them to go through the already american controlled routes in the east pacific like the Phillipines Malaysia and Taiwan. This is also why we run exercises with Japan and Korea in the South China Sea.

Currently the US owns most of the mining and general resource management in Africa so China has to pay the West for the ingredients to make toys they then sell to the west. Afghanistan ensures this continued double dipping.

I don't think it was when they went in, but the soil definitely allows it to and it had been in the past.

Mercenaries and contractors mostly, direct contracts by the Afghan government and local warlords. Also construction. Probably not that much resource extraction given the high insecurity.

It is again now for sure; it produces something like 80% of the world's opium. Afghanistan took over from the golden triangle during the 80s

ofcourse opium is only the product material. a large percentage of hard drugs coming out of afgan are already refined. and no, actually it took over in the 90s, after the soviets withdrew their "financial aid" to the goverment and let the jihadists destroy infrastructure

Don't forget about selling herion

You guys should watch Bitter Lake sometime, it's pretty good when you're really stoned.

During the development of the worst Opiate crisis in American history most of Afghanistan's poppy fields are occupied by the US. Afghanistan is one of the two leading areas of poppy production, the other being the Golden Triangle in SE Asia. There simply isn't enough poppy fields in Mexico or anywhere south of the Rio Grande to explain where all the cheap heroin comes from. The Mexican cartels have already created record profits off of producing Meth, which doesn't involve any of the delays of farming poppy, the cocoa plant, or Marijuana. You do the fucking math.
