Irrelevant.

probably more relevant than ever

Defectors are trash when it comes to reliable anecdotes.

Because the government is trying to make it relevant.

Oh, because america's orange haired piss princess tweeted about it? Oh my god sounds so serious

maybe they should stop testing missiles?

Probably is pretty serious if you're a North Korean.

Quick rundown:

They are revisionist but not in an economic way. Their elite may claim a little bit too much wealth for their own but I have no idea. Keasong area was shit and I'm glad they shut it down. Special economic zones are irrelevant. Kim Jong Ill was a dick. Kim Jong Un is cool. Worker control exists locally, but not on a state level, or at least only marginally. Free education, housing, renewable energy, healthcare. People starved in the 90s but not anymore. Small country with limited resources on a face-off with the entire world.

All in all their are more good than bad, and the way they don't give a shit is just admirable. Plus their economy is growing but not liberalizing so that's amazing. I like them, support them critically against imperialism.

Nationalist state defended by edgy teenagers in the name of anti-imperialism. South Korea is also shit.

I think their nationalism is more a result of their extreme isolation and siege situation, rather than a deliberate choice. They aren't racist and chauvinistic though, don't believe the bullshit claimed by western authors who never went there.

This is important to remember. Koreans are inherently low quality trash people.

p much, I think if both Korean halfs drowned the world would lose nothing.

made the lives of koreans better while the south continues to be a hellhole

Hah, why?

Are you fucking serious? The missiles are the main reason they still exist

North Korea has every right in this world to build a nuclear arsenal

don't they know it's actually a democratic republic?

t. Nigger

South Korea closed it you idiot. The North Korean government had no problem allowing companies from the "fascist puppet-state" to exploit the proletariat.

wat

It's an irrelevant percentage of their economy. Most of their production is for use even, however thay begs the question of wether or not that is deliberate or just a result of their economic isolation.

The Guardian article is kind of bullshit, please show me where the fuck the North Korean economy is getting capitalistic. Local one-man businesses and cooperatives working outside the plan is hardly a proof.

Production for use nigger, not capitalist

38north.org/2016/05/bbabson051916/

Please don't quote the fucking guardian at me when talking about North Korea

What do you think about the existence of PyongYang restaurant chain?

web.archive.org/web/20101012185701/http://www.pyongyangrestaurant.com/

How would you justify state sponsored foreign labor force of DPRK?

slavestothesystem.eu/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/NK-forced-labour-first-findings.pdf

citation badly needed

You can't be part socialist and part capitalist, Cenk
38north.org/2016/07/gtoloraya072616/

Are you literally retarded? Small businesses aren't capitalist? Typical social democrat.
>38north.org/2016/05/bbabson051916/
Of course you moron, why whould the fat manchild admit that reforms are taking place?
And you didn't answer why the DRPK allowed Kaesong to exist and why there are such zones when the country is "self-sufficient".

Cheap. We can't attain full socialism unless capitalism exists. This isn't an argument at all on wether or not production for use is predominant in North Korea.

Where is the private property? Small cooperatives (!!!) and one-man-businesses which allocate local consumer goods using a market as an allocation system isn't thorughly capitalist. Pre-capitalist production had markets as well. If you'd want to make a point you have to show me where the big state firms operate under a market, because that's where actual commodity production occurs, not when some guys sells some fish on the roadside because he caught too many. That's primitive commodity production.

Looks to me that they are using simulated markets.

Guy sounds like a classical liberal, disgusting. Lot of speculation in that article, Byungjin actually means more central planning, that's how Kim Ill-Sung used it. Under Kim Jong Il markets and crony corporatism was established because he only cared about the military (Songbun), it was also a necessary measure to fight the shortages of the 90s. For the sake of their own sustainability, market forces had to be tolerated. It's absolute speculation on their part if they are going to liberalize in a capitalist sense, unless you are believing in liberal determinism, like this guy.

It allowed it to exist as part of an attempt to improve relation with South Korea until it was terminated by the latter. You are overly-critical, recognize the material conditions in which they are in. Of course they are grasping for straws to evolve productive forces.

Pretty amazing actually, to have the chance to experience such a isolated, foreign culture in Amsterdam. What, no fun allowed?

Shit, I don't defend that if true

Nigga please, that's basic stuff which you can find in western sources. Just look at their consitution. For the renewable energy thing, I'm willing to admit that this pretty much forced upon them through lack of electrification. On the party congress they said they wanna focus more on coal, which is kinda sad.

Can anyone answer why DPRK shouldn't be able to build a military?

I agree with this, though.

"Defectors" are outright encouraged to say the worst possible things they can get away with about the North Korea. There's a reason why that little girl was promoted so much. She can't even keep her story straight.

It's a tankie paradise, so naturally it's total shit.

I remember hearing that Park of SoKorea had a private plane in NorKorea, so I'm inclined to believe that their government is just as corrupt.

youtube.com/watch?v=oULO3i5Xra0
Not the full picture, but it gives you insight on who they are and humanise them a little.

...

Love these guys
youtube.com/watch?v=Kk9EcTeJmIU

It's good because 1.) It is a tiny shithole that simultaneously has managed to go nuclear. 2.) because it scares the fuck out of everyone to the point where talk show hosts are nonchalantly talking about extrajudicial murder of North Korean leaders.

Tankies are mostly cosplayers into the Soviet aesthetic.

They may be radical nationalists that abandoned anything even resembling Marxism (if they were ever even Marxist to begin with), but they got dat see pee see see 'sthetic mane, so tankies love them.

tankie propaganda art is an amazing style. Americans/Euros can't compete

Aren't they a corrupt government that oppresses their own people?

well fuck you?

...

Personally I'd say yes but how many governments are corrupt or oppressive.
are imperialist military actions or sanctions against the country not also oppressive?
What's most important, contrary to widespread war propaganda is that north korea isn't actually a threat on the world stage, in any real war situation they could do a lot of damage but never actually win, even US could outlast them in a nuclear war, maybe this would ultimately be fatal even to the US but DPRK would lose that war, there's no way they win in any war situation.

What if NK was horrible AND the us tries to demonize and invade it for imperialist reasons

Completely indefensible. Every tankie defending them belongs on a list.

t. george orwell

I honestly have no idea what to think about them.

While all news in the West is most definitely crafted to paint them in the most negative light possible, I'm also pretty wary about believing anything their government puts out.

Yeah, about that…

Considering America's hate boner for the country and the capitalist hellhole that is the south, I would be a bit sympathetic to North Korea if I could tell what's propaganda or truth about the country. They renounced Marxism back in the 90's for Juche which just sounds like paternalism with a cult for Kim Il-sung, so why care?

America only hates them because of geopolitics. They really aren't as bad as everyone says they are.

It is straight up propaganda though.

I can't believe anyone still puts stock in defector stories.

retard

nightmarish totalitarian monarchy
would be better off under capitalism

And how do you know this?

the NKs still use a lot of socialist prop but according to their own goverment the NKs are not socialist at all but jucheist
quite literally not socialism

If they were capitalist but under the same sanctions, they would be worse off. They would basically be like Sudan. At least under their current system they can provide food, education and general welfare to their population. They even have a waterpark. How many waterparks do you find in Sudan? Basically you are a faggot and an apologist for engaging in economic terrorism against a small, isolated country because of memes. You should apply yourself to the gulag, asap.

I believe the defectors
they aren't all lying, there are too many of them, and the picture they paint is too consistent
saying NK isn't a shithole is like saying the holocaust was just typhus

if they were capitalist they wouldn't have pulled out of the NPT, and thus wouldn't have gotten sanctioned
they literally only did that because the Kims have tiny korean micropenises
see pic related for details

they have other problems besides capitalism, namely their demographics

nuclear non proliferation transcends all earthy political dilemmas
you are a retard if you can't see why every meme country having nukes would be a problem

It's not consistent at all you retard, they are notorious for getting caught up in contradictions, and only a spastic like you can't see that. Most of the horror stories like Kim feeding his uncle to the dogs gets written up by South Korean blogs and is then reported in the mainstream media. Even anti-DPRK western researchers admit this.
Moving the goalposts. You said they are a totalitarian nightmare, thus implying that it is somehow all their own fault, and if they don't become your run-of-the-mill neoliberal dystopia it is apperently totally justified to sanction a country to death so that it's basically living like on another planet.
Back to r/The_Donald
Demographics are a result of the material conditions, you sperg. Also completely ignoring my point, my point was that their systems works competitively well considering their situation, and you have no answer to that instead of resorting to literal Neocon talking points.

[citation needed]

Well it's not the people's fault obviously.
The social and political repression is the fault of the kims.
The "economic terrorism" is a result of withdrawing from the NPW, which is the fault of the kim's and their quest for large phalic objects which explode from the tip

I should have been more clear. Sudan is a shithole because niggers
and also colonialism, capitalism, Christianity, islam, etc but we can't forget who is living there

youtu.be/VfNHdhIE13A
One example out of many.
From its inception, South Korea has been a military dictatorship with torture dungeons. Yet for some reason burgerland showers them with money, how can that be? Maybe the world isn't so black and white as it is like in your infantile mind. That being said, the population is mostly supporting their government.
thediplomat.com/2015/09/how-popular-is-kim-jong-un/
Yeah I'm sure the fact that the breakaway from the soviet nuclear umbrella in 1991 has nothing to do with the fact that they started their own nuclear program when America is hellbent on destroying them. If you think that the CTBTO is anything but a political organization you are beyond saving and get your polticial views from Sasha Baron Cohen movies. Also, you still ignored my original point that they do comparatively well with their system in a situation in which a capitalist system would be most likely be much, much worse.
