I'm listening to the debate right now and for about 40 minutes it was benign chatter and feeling each other's positions out, looking for some place where they disagreed. I think the only thing was whether Trump was racist, which wasn't a very strong argument either way, they seemed like they didn't really care about the question.

But when they talked about crime rates Destiny was putting forward a really normal, pretty materialist perspective on human action saying that conditions effect what choices people make, and Sargon was putting forward that people's choices were totally free, in a near vacuum. When Destiny allowed him to lay out his entire position, at the end of it Destiny went back to the basic question, "assuming you're right, what explains broken families, high drop out rates and high crimes for black people if we can't speak of their conditions of life?" and Sargon just said "thats the big question isn't it? I don't know". He just absolved himself of the whole thing. Destiny literally laughed in what had up to that point been a pretty amicable discussion because of how absurd that resolution was.

This,. it's like when Katie Couric interviewed Sarah Palin and in her master manipulator machiavellian ways she was doing a "gotcha" question by asking "What newspapers you read."

Sargon seems like he is cogent enough to notice that he is contradicting himself. Hell Destiny makes the most basic point, just for the sake of argument even, that IF race is a solid predictor for some group's average socio-economic status then we should be able to suggest that there is something racially contingent about having that socio-economic status, and Sargon dismisses it by saying "well isn't that racist, what about their race is the deciding factor here?", as if he hasn't been entirely dismissing every argument involving culture, history, poverty etc. which was the entire reason Destiny felt he had to pose this hypothetical.
