Don't watch Dr. Who but I'd be miffed if I self-inserted as (or even really just identified with) a character and then that character was made harder-or-impossible to identify with by making them a woman. I don't really consume fiction often (unless visiting Holla Forums for laughs counts.) so it's hard to directly think of any examples.
