Of course gay people can be right-wing. And they can also be left-wing. The real idpol here is assuming someone's personal identity (e.g. race, sexual preference, gender) will be what determines their politics, rather than their material class identity - that's exactly what you are doing. There are gay members of the working class, and gay members of the ruling class. Just like any member of the working class, gay working class people can be duped into the ideology of the ruling class.

While personal identity is not something to forget exists entirely, and can play a role in explaining how ideologies develop in certain sections of the working class, it is still an exercise in idpol to assume that "all black people are x politically", "all white people are y politically", and "all gays are z politically". That is literally what idpol is.

Of course it's not rational. Think about it like this - you're a kid in school, and you've been bullied at your last school, and you know you're kind of lame and awkward and weak and probably susceptible to bullying; but you're not like a total goober retard. So at this school there's this big bully, a real asshole, and he could potentially bully you. So how do you make sure he doesn't bully you? Well, you team up with him to bully the real fucking goobers. Bullies' friends tend to be weak people who are only friends with that bully to avoid being bullied themselves. Consider that analogy, and consider why a gay person might start adopting the rhetoric and ideas of the right-wing ideology, an ideology that in many other situations or circumstances, would hate them.
