Does the DSA even do anything?

This is not a rhetoric snarky question, I'm not american. Online they always strike me as a group for people who want to claim to be member of a radical organization without having to do anything.

can I get more info on this please?

DSA Marxists and left caucus are going to be running a slate of candidates to try to get the majority of the national leadership.

They run in locals and have a few wins I think

They have a convention in August where they vote on this and the agenda

So what difference does it even make what -ism they are lmao

Yeah dude it like, doesn't matter, like if you think about it,politics is the real evil dudeā€¦

...

Bump

Yeah that was exactly my point. Retard.

and that's why you need to lay off the marijuana for a bit

They focus on local politics and national causes: which is the way to go around it tbh. I mean as an org their main MO is entryism: supporting candidates in primaries that are socialist or supporting independent socialist candidates. They helped get a Mayor with marxist influences elected in Jackson, Mississippi for example. Atm their main push is against the Ryancare bill and push for singe payer.

...

Why the fuck are non-marxists even allowed to join?

What blackmail?

You mistake the order of events. It was a non-marxist org that's been taken over by marxists, not the other way around

Because it's a petit-bourgeois socdem party.

A better question would be why do we still let tankies run wild and un-gulaged?

Currently, yes. (although it's still useful as an entryist platform)

However, what the OP is saying is that there's a very good chance that the left-wing, Marxist part of DSA will gain control over the organization. This would be a huge step forward; DSA is an order of magnitude larger than any other leftist org in the US, and continues to grow rapidly. Steering it away from succdemery is the first step to building a genuine socialist movement in the US.

Here's the slate and its program

not everything, but the fundamentals

They aren't a political party, they do shit, they're good people, some of the people in my local DSA are big Rosa people

I'd say the Left Wing of the DSA is the most influential, I haven't seen any people affiliated with it shy away Marx or Marxism

now if they understand marxism, now theres the rub

Person who knows more about DSA than I wish here.

DSA has massive potential that it's underutilizing right now because a select few of the old guard Harringtonities still hold disproportionate sway in the organization because they have been there the longest. They are very well intentioned social democrats and are interested in "The Left of the Possible". Which to them isn't revolution. They honestly belong in some progressive NGO and not DSA.

Their right oppourtunism will lead DSA down a road to nowhere. Where as in most socialist organizations the Marxist cadre/leadership is interested in pushing new members to the left and radicalizing them, some of the Harringtonite types are genuinely satisfied with the current level of class conciousness among DSA membership. All the new energy in DSA will really be wasted in the long run if they stay in power. Luckily they won't and the Left Caucus / Jacobin people will win this slate and stop all the bullshit holding DSA back. It will actually be an org worth associating with (on a national level) after this.

You muppet

SOON.

I'm gonna bet 70% of these guys are going to be /r/socialism mod tier with no chill. Probably going to ban people from the party for trivializing imperialism and use party dues to pay for their anxiety medicine and fibromyalgia disability.

DSA are openly revisionist social imperialists.

Eugene Debs 2.0 when

All Jacobin has published lately is imperialist propaganda. This is not a positive thing.

Bud that is a lot of projection. A lot of DSA chapters are vastly superior to many other socialist orgs. A big appeal for Leftypol is apparently their lack of idpol at a local level. The stuff they do to help communities has a class-centric focus to them that you will rarely find in the ISO, SAlt, etc. Is there less liberal filled orgs out there? Yes absolutely. But the scale of the DSA coupled with the sizable commie presence within the org is definitely something to pay attention to.
