One of the best war movies ever tbh

i've never seen anything like this in my life. Holy shit.

meh it's overrated

...

It's intense. The scene under the bridge with the hiwis is the best.

Why do you think so?

best movie I will never see again

All nazis should watch this film, it shows the realty of the eastern front and there ideology

very very slow and boring

also not very shocking I guess holocaust movies desensitized me

Hands down agreed. Roger Ebert used to say that it was impossible to make a good anti war movie because war is fundamentally exciting and through film it can seem fun. He retracted that statement after watching Come And See. The history behind the film is pretty incredible too. It became very popular in the DDR with many Wehrmacht veterans saying that everything in this film is 100% truth. One of the writers, not Klimov but the other, fought with the partisans in byelorussia during the war. He incorporated a lot of his personal experiences into the film as well as documentary evidence from survivors of village massacres. What's the most disturbing part do you think? I think it's a tie between when glasha sees florya's village shot and when florya sees glasha after she's been raped, listlessly blowing that whistle.

These words are synonyms in this instance and since they describe the exact same thing your speech comes off as redundant and uneducated. I'm just assuming you're not a native English speaker.

As far as the film goes, yes it's not as in your face as a Hollywood blockbuster but the tension and timing is much better. I swear, America has ruined filmmaking by creating fidgety audiences that don't understand thematics. And this is coming from an American.

Also it's not meant to be entertainment. When you say things like, "I wasn't shocked" you sound as if you were expecting something violent and exciting. The point is to be sad. If you were so caught up in whether you enjoyed it or not, you are beyond saving.

The movie was never meant to be a shocking exciting film though.

I know it's predictable but the scene in OPs pic really struck me deep. The burning of the church and killing was all treated like a regular outing by the Germans fucking around and laughing if you recut it a little you could probably portray a light moment of camaraderie in a different film. But the part that got me was the picture. They use him like a prop and take what's essentially a selfie with a kid who they intended to murder not a minute ago. Without ever uttering any words about it you can see and feel that this is all just spectacle to them it isn't 'really' happening and this kid isn't even really a person. You kind of feel the dehumanization vicariously. It made me feel sick to my stomach to be honest.

Last time I watched it with /k/ years ago i found it surreal and didn't understand what was going on most of the time, should really watch it again.

I've not seen it myself but I heard that in some scenes they used real bullets to add authenticity and make the actors be genuinely afraid when rounds were whizzing just over their heads.

Pretty cool if true.

They used real rounds yes. You can see the scenes on youtube, god it's been forever since I last watched it I beleive it's one of the scenes when the hero is crawling though a field and they fire real tracers over his head.. At a safe distance mind you. But yeah this movie is hands down THE war movie to parrot what others have said. It should really be required viewing for everyone.

Is that the girl from Stranger Things?

just wanted to add too it's a trip of a movie. when I saw it I was going through real shit and was squatting and couch surfing with friends. this movie kind of hits on what real desperation is.

Comrades, heed my words. If you felt terrified by the reality of OP's movie you are required (by the holy socialist state) to read pdf related!

The difference: pdf related is about the 'grey zone' of world war. In this (very tight, laconic) novel you'll see another perspective upon the destruction, from a few years old girl's POV.

Here's Zizek's recommendation:

Come and See. Can't you fucking read, anarkiddy?

Come on fam it's discussed all through the thread and named in the pic filename - Come and See.

I'm starting to regret reading this. It's just so depressing and uncomfy, yet I'm halfway through and invested. I don't want to just stop but it's honestly becoming unpleasant.

Can anyone give me a good link to watch this ??
I don't find it any were with a decent quality

It is called "Come and see" probably one of the best films ever made, the most horrifing war film.
It was made by the Soviets in 1985 and is about the nazi ocuppation of Belarus.
