This is the thing about democracy. Winning the popular vote isn't supposed to be a consolation prize, it's supposed to be how the head of state is chosen.

The thing about the electoral college is that it's supposed to serve two functions:
1) It stops retards from winning.
2) It stops regional candidates from trampling over the other states
