What? Bookchin is a modern thinker. They died only in 2006. Furthermore, Bookchin's communalism has inspired the current revolution in Rojava (i.e. Northern Syria). If you want something with contemporary relevance, it's difficult to get more relevant than Bookchin.

Some theory for you, Badmouse is good with history, ProSoc with Leninism and Socialism explained about going through basic concepts. Decently short videos (5-20 mins) to get you a basic idea.

Today's right-wing are in complete continuity with modernity and its values of nationalism and economic liberalism, they are just unwilling to accept the other side of the coin. Capitalism has already eroded everything a conservative should hold as sacred. Edmund Burke and his followers were unable to anticipate the results of liberalism, so their philosophy remains an idealist revolt at best.

On the other hand, traditional Catholicism represents a form of community before the nation-state, it has always been in certain tension with the values of modernity (unlike protestantism). To be clear, I'm a socialist, but Catholic thinkers are the only ones who have made me seriously consider non-leftist positions.
