Find Out If Your Job Will Be Automated

The most recent U.S. jobs report, showing an unemployment rate of 4.4 percent in June, portrays an economy capable of generating plenty of work to keep Americans busy. But what if, in the not-too-distant future, there won’t be enough jobs to go around?

The Hunt for Reddit User: CNN proves it can do investigative journalism

There are so many disturbing things about the #CNNBlackmail story that it almost hurts the brain to think about them. But one thing is clear. Watching the way CNN reacted to a Tweet involving a fake sport speaks volumes about its current status.

Expertise and punditry - John Quiggin

I concluded my post “Against Epistocracy” with the question “Who gets to decide who is well-informed? And who gets to decide who gets to decide?”. This is, I think, a fatal flaw in any system proposing to replacing democracy with rule by a well-informed elite, or any kind of putative aristocracy. But even in a democratic system, we have to make decisions about who should decide things.

the inept Trump supporter who vandalized the school in the world's worst false flag operation is just one of many recent embarrassments showing the total incompetence of much of the ignorant right

Same fucking story since 1979

...

sometimes, smashies are pretty cool

Like, all the time?

All is well.

Burgerstan nationalism is a religion of peace that would never do this on purpose Sam Harris told me so.

old corbyn tweets are the cutest

...

fucking nice

Were the alt-right accelerationists all along?

Melania dindu nuffin tbh

I think alt-left accelerationist is prolly a better description of that phenomenon.

The left wingers who refused to support neoliberals turned out to be right in a way (only in Europe though, America is a lost cause.)

Literally a meme.

Too bad this ensures the Tories would literally make a pact with Satan if it were possible, in order to avoid a new election. By the time it happens, Corbyn will have lost momentum, sadly.

I eagerly await for tankies to support Comrade-Sultan Erdogan.

...

It's the same in the UK and Japan. Tightening labour market and no wage inflation. Is there any explanation besides the decimation of union power?

Liquity Trap.
Don't know how much you know about central banking but long story short the Federal Reserve gives money to banks.

These banks are just spending the money to buy stocks instead of material things like equipment or new buildings that would require workers to assemble.

This is why the Fed is raising rates even though there is no inflation. The money isn't leaving the FIRE economy (Finance Insurance REnt) so they might as well just cut off the spigot

AIDS

That doesn't really answer my question. Firms should still be paying workers more if they're hiring more and the market is tightening up. Also they raise interest rates to keep the labour market loose.

They raise interest rates to halt inflation. The federal reserve has never done anything to tighten labor markets since their inception. They are there for porky, they wouldn't exist if porky hadn't caused a depression every 30 years when credit markets were completely private.

Firms collude to keep wages down. The supply demand thing is bullshit. Porky manipates prices all the time. They just had a huge lawsuit settlement between all the big IT companies for colluding to keep wages down. You don't thing that's not happening in all industries?

they control inflation by controlling wages and targetting nairu, they literally published papers admitting that, the job losses are quanitfied and everything.
i didn't know about the it thing, no. but news out of japan says they're short of truck drivers (amongst other things) and there's not a whiff of wage inflation.
i'm going out for a bit so can't reply
