Trump is gonna win in 2020 isn't he?

Was there ever any doubt?

These people are fucking idiots.

Democrats would rather lose every election than put a left winger in office, that's their place in the two party system. Sit back and drink the devil's water and you get a comfy career for life in office or out.

how do people still believe they are "left" when there's so many journalists and pundit calling them center, if not decrying that they're not center enough?

Their op-ed page will be the first against the wall.

I mean he won't win the nomination IMO, and he will run as an independent. Fresh prediction right here.

… what? Many people hate the GOP already, why would they shoot themselves in the foot by confirming they are snakes and stabbing Trump the back?

Will that idiot Sanders finally jump to DSA so we'll quit hearing about this stupid "change the fucking DEMOCRATIC PARTY from the inside into the party of and for the working class"?

Bernie is a fuckin sellout, he's bathing in money right now lmao

The Dems would unseat him. Also he doesn't want to share the spotlight. Thus why he hasn't trained a successor despite being super old.

Is the DSA even a party? I thought it was an activist group

It has a handful of city councilers that's it

It is a pressure group that campaigns for candidates and sometimes puts its own forth. That way it can get away with support (actual) leftist democrats and independents alike.

...

Hmmm…tough choice.

The Democratic party exists to neuter left wing movements.

Meanwhile, in Britain…

i fucking hate how liberals hide their pro-FIRE policies behind the veneer of technology

the former makes their money through demanding it from productive people to allow them to produce, the latter actually improves the world

if they really wanted to be pro-tech they'd massively weaken intellectual property rights and pump a ton of resources into research but god knows they aren't going to do that

Yes, right now it is. Which is why I don't understand the dismissive attitude towards an attempt to push it leftwards as displayed by the person who I was responding to. The person appears to think that everything that clutters up his/her feed should go away.

and back in reality

You mean like they did with Hillary?

But they hated both Clinton and Trump, and Sanders has a better reputation than most of his party does. And the Dems didn't even lose most of the vote in 2016 - or most of the working class vote, for that matter. And the places where they decisively lost among the working class were also places where Bernie (and, during the actual election, Jill Stein) performed well.

So, you know; garbage.

No see the reason she lost was because she wasn't right wing enough. If you run as a conservatives Republican then the GOP can't attack you.

No, what you just did was to strawman.

Better keep that overton window sliding to the right!

If you become your enemy, you win!

By Sanders moving over to DSA it would also entail a massive growth of new, self-described democratic socialist (by Sanders standards); making an actually "socialist" (let's pretend) party (oxymoron) into a potential contender. Dems v Repubs is the dumbest situation you could possible want. That's why I called Sanders an idiot in the first place.

Between my Repub family and Neolib friends, I'm turning into a Tankie more every day.

Democrats don't 'support tech', they support their tech donors. Tech is only useful to the ruling classes when it is concentrated and developed for the purposes of control and surveillance.

You're absolutely correct, of course, but it's frustrating how most STEM people assume they're on the same team as FIRE people because of cosmopolitanism and being somewhat better off materially than the proletariat.

The second he jumps to DSA, the entire damn media save for some web columnist here and there will ignore him, and his influence will wilt.

One day Hillary's supporters will admit they're chickenhawks.

people who believe in this are the first getting shot when the revolution comes

And so to get it back the Democrats should advocate… "Fiscal Responsibility"… and not spend money
Really made me think.
Think about guillotines.

...

Also, Bernie sanders did a townhall in a deep-red south state and he got overwhelming applause from the audience. Clintonites on suicide watch

West Virginia is different culturally and materially than other southern states
They ceceded from the confederacy and mining was their biggest industry for most of their industry
Just letting you know

Being an elected official biases you towards the immediate future, because of the two party system it would take forever to finally replace the Dems as the non-republican party during which time the Republicans would run roughshod over a lot of people's lives. It'd probably be faster but yeah a lot of people would suffer even more in the meantime, and that's the sort of thing even a radical starts caring about once elected.

I'm amazed there's a single leftist left in the USA as that dismal tide all seem to go one way.
