"Open borders" and "closed borders" are misnomers beyond the context of status quo politics. Any self-respecting leftist should expect borders to dissolve by lack of necessity in a post-scarcity society. That does not mean freedom of movement is desirable in the short term. In real politics, border policy is usually pragmatic anyway; ironic how liberals refuse to invoke the middle ground argument in one of the rare cases in which it applies. A country does not even need loose borders to establish humanitarian programs, especially when they are a gold mine for diplomatic relations.
Besides, capitalist imperialism is the driving force behind the migrant crisis to begin with. The right wing demand for borders is an ideological conundrum for them. By using fear and doubt over immigration and asylum, they are exploiting the flaws of a system they tout as flawless. It's borderline Orwellian no pun intended.

There's always this strange delusion that is presupposed among the anti-immigration right. That is, that those who are against borders are also cultural relativists. This is false. One can support a myriad of cultures mixing together, while critically rejecting the most reactionary tendencies within various cultures. Because one supports the abolition of borders does not mean that one supports tolerance for reactionary or """"""""traditionalist"""""""" ideas either within or from outside existing national borders.
However, the reality is that increased cultural diversity leads to increased cultural choice, and thereby the potential for increased freedom. The benefits from the diffusion between culture is one of the greatest sources of cultural complexity, creativity, and freedom for human beings. To quote anthropologist Peter Farb:

That's nice and all fam, but it would be pretty nice if everyone was able to actually talk to the people around them. Obviously, if we got rid of imperialism people wouldn't feel the need to go to places they don't speak the language of so it's not really a great worry, but the way you worded this post makes it seem like you think we should be actively encouraging people to go to places where their language isn't understood which I don't get behind.
