I'd be for making people take a safety course before being able to get a gun, and you should get some sort of gun vault with the course/your first gun. Also banning shit like rocket launchers is probably alright. Not much else though.

Assault rifle is a convenient shorthand for talking about guns with a certain set of characteristics. It's hardly precise language, but it's not as bad as the pedants make it out to be.

Basically I think policing should be done by People's militias with mandatory serving time although only a year and if you want to stay on you can to become a Commisar etc.
With that being the case it only makes sense to have a lot of freedom for personal gun ownership considering most people will have at the least a standard issue service rifle and sidearm that they take home from militia duty.

I more meant shit like C4, Landmines, and missiles. TNT has value in it's uses while landmines and missiles are pretty much guaranteed collateral damage and unintended deaths. I suppose even C4 and Semtex would be okay for civilian use in small quantities. Really I guess I'm referring to incredibly powerful explosive weapons or ones that require a lot of danger
