Leftist politics around the world

Whats the leftist movement look like in your country? Does your country have a strong left-wing party in parliament or are they neutered idpol machines?
Here in burgerland I think it's pretty abysmal. The Democrats are fucking aweful and the organized Labour has really been smothered here.

The leftist parties in Canada are irrelevant and moldy. Neither communist party is communist, the greens are a meme. Anarchist activity is okay I guess, mostly in quebec I think.
This small town the only political action I've seen was an anti-abortion protest, and my own propaganda.

Until 2015 things were dismal, now we have a marxist steps away from being PM. Corbyn's time shall soon come.

Any pajeets here have any info on leftist movements in India?

Two leftist parties are post-communist traitors and Podemos knock-offs who seem to be turning into shit. At least there is some tiny narcho trade union here and there.

I feel you. Never seen a leftist in my life in my city. Few Nazi's, fuck ton of liberals.

You in Peterborough by any chance?

Nope, under toronto.

Shit is kicking off in the UK famrades. We on the brink of something big here. Corbyn called for people to seize unoccupied mansions in London, he's gonna re-nationalize the shit out of the railways and the energy companies and the post service - it's looking good.

ever since Corbyn got big, a lot of leftists have come out of the woodwork to put pressure on the system.

God what a qt

with change there will be war. be ready. arm yourself

if there is a civilw ar, which way will the army swing? that'll be one of the deciding factors

the republican party is probably considered leftist to india. they still haven't made it past feudalism

Study your history comrade. Every revolution ever won has only been won when the armed forces realise their true class position.

bernie is our only hope tbh.

yes, that's my point. Will they realise that the revolution will benefit them, or are they too classcucked.

There is no static answer to that question. All sections of the working class are capable of gaining class consciousness in the right conditions. Of course it's possible, what matters is how the revolutionary movement and leadership act.

One thing that I think may play a factor is whether or not the army is conscription or volunteer. If it is made up of conscripts then they are more likely to have diverse political views and be class conscious and possibly join the revolution. However if it is volunteer I thinking it is more likely to remain steadfast in support of the government because the people who enlist are the people who are already loyal to the establishment and want to fight for the nation and are typically more right-wing.

My cousin is in the army and she was posting a lot of shit about a coup/mutiny if Labour won during the GE.

From the soldiers I've met, I think a lot of them would be like that.

Women are always the bravest with other people's skin.

Netherlands here. There's squatters and anarchos (though kinda neutered nowadays). Council communism and autonomism used to be strong here but before my time. The socdem party is neo-liberal, the socialist party (former maoist) is socdem.

The youth here is… dissapointing to say the least. I mean, almost everyone I know voted "left" and is "progressive" but there are few radicals and class conscious people. Lots of idpol, lots of libertines. Maybe things will change in the future.

Though I think socialism doesn't have a chance here because of the nature of our economy, thing sin Belgium are moving. The francophone sucdem party has basically collapsed after a string of corruption scandals and communist infiltration of the labour unions, meaning that the Workers Party (maoist) is on course to become the biggest party in Walloonia. Their success is bound to spill over into Flanders and Brussels too. Parliamentary communism will the biggest it's been in almost five decades.
And the regional governments in Francophone Belgium just collapsed too. No new elections coming, but a lot of infighting and mudslinging, which the communists can bank on.

Clearly you have no idea about India

what is a lonely prole to do

meant Phoenix, obviously

i should mention that i'm retarded

Burger here. It looks like pure unadulterated shit. Idpol cancer everywhere and no real support for the working class and/or the poor. The rich liberals on the coasts have mysteriously become the voice of the left. Signing off.

It really says a lot when our most radical major party is the Green Party. Does the DSA have a presence in your area?

organize, educate. i know it sounds shit, but it's the surest chance

I have been to Phoenix, though, so I understand. It did look quite grim

they're more likely to move right wing then left.
lets face it.

I'm in Portland, and it has a loads of potential because Anti-Fa is well supported among the youth, but everyone's obsessed with this idpol shit and I don't know how to even start talking about it

I might be the only Communist where I live…I'm in the States' and the most neo-liberal hellhole and boyfriend doesn't have it better either since he might be the only communist in the entirety where he lives (Greenland)

bump

If you are a comrade alone in your area but want to organize, do this:

1) Spend some serious time researching, reading the theory of, articles of, etc. international marxist/communist/socialist organizations/tendencies. Do not be fooled into thinking you need to look for ones near you, necessarily - this is of course a bonus, but with this plan it doesn't matter if you are really distant, this is the whole point of the plan.

Contact via email and talk to the organizations with which you agree/like the look of. Ask them questions about theory and tactics. Be honest with them about your knowledge and aims. Do not let location be too much of a deciding factor; let ideas and theory guide you. Decide on the right one for you.

2) Join them as a lone member. Read their material, use their resources, and begin to educate others. If they are an organization that sells a newspaper, even better. The paper is a good talking point for meeting new recruits. Sell them on the street, sell them to a friend or colleague, ask them what they thought of x or y article - get them engaged first in the ideas of socialism, and then in the organization too.

3) Be open about your membership to your organization with contacts and potential recruits. At a certain stage, ask them if they want to join too. Build a group of you, together. Everyone can recruit at least one other person, in time. Help build an international socialist organization.

Aus checking in.
Nothing to report

So I made a map to kind of visualize what was said about the leftism around the world.
Blue means pretty sad, the light blue means not so good but some, pink means decent, and red means strong.
Let me know if you think its wrong some where and if you have anything to add.

Rojava should at least be pink.

...

Ireland should be pink IMO: having the trots and southern SF gaining.

And Rojava defo should be Red.

ok I also threw France in as pink because of Melenchon's success as well as the strong resistance to those labour laws that they tried to pass recently. Plus I made venezuela as red, but idk.

China should be red, since the Maoists are the biggest faction but there aren't any open elections for them to run in.

I'd list China and Japan as blue with light-blue stripes, since they're pretty much porky paradises with developing workers/communist movements.

North Korea just plain blue.

It's for public opinion not the state of the economy.

Mate, socialist movements are doomed in Venezuela. The socdems have ruined fucking everything and support for the US-backed neoliberals is rising.

Croatia here.
Leftism, what's that? Certainly no parliament presence, it's dead. There's a minor party I've considered joining that seems pretty legit, does union organizing and strikes. The public perception of leftism is fucking atrocious though, just shitflinging over Yugoslavia without any economic discussion. It's somewhat surreal to read Anglo lefties talking about the unique yugoslav market socialism, when over here you'll never hear about anything differentiating it from Stalinism, it was Soviet Union 2.0 apparently.

Oh, I thought it was regarding the state of leftism in that country.

/r/ing pink on Portugal since the communist party and the "hard left" party are somewhat in power

In Italy the left seems in growing to me. The centre-left party in parliament is neo-liberal shit and the "socialist" of the PSI(italian socialist party) are alligned to them. But there is a new demsoc party SI(italian Left), which i don't actually how much liberal it is, but it seems pretty good since they start understanding how much our democrats are shit.
We have anyway two promising MLs party PC(communist party) and PCI(italian communist party) (in which i maybe will join). .
There are some other communist parties like the trots of PCL(communist party of the workers) and the PMLI(italian marxist-leninist parties) but as far as i know they are totally useless. The eurocommunist of the RC(communist refoundation) are if not dead kinda hated by everyone.
I don't know much about the anarchist situation, there are the syndacalist of USI(italian syndacal union) but they are for the most only in the north, and maybe some other federation which i don't know.
So this is approximately the italian situation, it's not the best, but from my point of view there is a lot of hope.

I come from South Africa, and yeah it's okay. All the main leftist groups are more based on decolonization and black nationalism but like, it's understandable. It can be somewhat exclusionary (to us whiteys) but yeah it's unfortunately needed.

Germany here. We have a Socdem party that is currently at 9% in the polls. Said party has a Holla Forums style wing run by Sahra Wagenknecht (she is pretty popular among the general population as well), however it also houses an increasing number of shitlibs/ SJWs/AntiGermans. The German Antifa is riddled with Anti-Germans and SJWs, however there are also some decent anti-fascist groups and individuals. Recent state elections voted basically 100% neoliberal/reactionary governments into power, so overall i'd say the status is sad, meh at best.

Poland here. The parliament looks is too sad for words though.

seconding

the neoliberal consensus has basically collapsed overnight, it's amazing
the new minority government has no authority and is unlikely to last a full term, and has had to abandon most of it's proposals

the kind of politics that are being discussed now would have seemed impossible even a few months ago, 'neoliberalism' is a term now used commonly in the mainstream media to describe the current, disintegrating order

it's hard to explain, but something huge is happening

Oh also apparently the Zapatistas are running candidates in the 2018 elections: seeming them become a major political force in Mexico would make me more than happy.

...

The Philippines should either be light blue or pink considering they have an active Communist insurgency.

thats pretty fuckin based

Wait, Venezuala is leftist?

No hope here in Iceland. A socialist party was founded very recently but its a fucking joke. Basically just socdems and the party's founder is fucking retarded. The only ""leftist"" I know vote for the fucking greens and are scared of even slight radicalism. I don't live in the capital area and its probably a bit better there but still, pretty bleak.

Spain's got Podemos and PSOE but they're both socdems

At least Podemos advocates for direct democracy and is a bit more dem-soc

...

A failed social democracy.

what a bout Greece? I know that anarchists have a presence there, at least in Athens. And a shit ton of people voted for Syriza which ran on a some what radical platform, even tough they turned out to be trash in the end.

Is Iceland supposed to be one of the nordic paradises? Is neo-liberalism ripping these welfare states apart?

fuck yeah it is
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CPP-NPA-NDF_rebellion

yeah. sub.media/video/this-is-athens/
I have a dream that the PKK/YPG unites with greek anarchist and begins the global revolution from the cross roads of civilization.

Of the nordic countries, its the most class cucked for sure. The Independence party (comparable to the UK Conservatives) and the Agrarian Liberal party have basically always been the ruling parties. After the 2008 economic crisis, we got a left win government trough a Green-Social Democrat coalition but not much came out of that. Our longest serving PM, Davíð Oddsson who served for 13 years, was a big fan of Friedman, Thatcher and Raegan which should give you a picture of how things are here.

Socialist Party (centre-left socdems) in government supported by the Portuguese Communist Party and the Left Bloc. PCP are literal tankies who have surprisingly never betrayed Marxism-Leninism and the Left Bloc are a kid friendly amalgamation of I-have-no-idea-what-we-actually-are socialists, trotskyists and socdems. They have good interventions in parliament though. Anarcho-Syndicalist movement is somewhat strong. I live in an industrial/ seaport town where class consciousness is very strong and judging by the election results less than 1/4 of the local pop is right-wing.

Chile's a pink; tons of strong left organizations which have managed to get a decent hold on the national political arena. The main problems are a rampant reformism and SJW-ism, coupled with a right-wing that's gotten quite strong since the current left-centrist govt. is shit.

There's a huge Maoist presence in India.

fuck forgot pic.

I also went ahead and filled most of Latin America from my perspective; the red countries would be Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Nicaragua and El Salvador, all of which have governments that are left-leaning at least. Argentina and Uruguay both have a decent leftist presence but no real power. Peru and Colombia are classcucked as fuck.

oh and Cuba's red too of course

how about sarahui's republic?

You should add a key to the map.

...

Looks good comrade, hope more people add to it

I never thought we would be the vanguard of nations but hay ho we'll keep the red flag flying here.

we were the vanguard of neoliberalism and we'll destroy it too

I think the communist party is the largest party in Cyprus. Dont know much about them ir the situation there but still.

i live in argentina and the lefty partys are liberals, or atleast PC AF
the biggest "workers party" is a students one
espero que el partido justicialista se ponga full nazbol y haga algo bien gracioso y memero

I wouldn't have Britain Dark red we are still a long way off, and because of our dumb first past the post system Labour would have to work super hard to actually get a working majority(I think in some case they need at least 5% more of the vote to win). Stuff is happening but calling yourself a Marxist or a communist is still political suicide and a lot of young people who think they are "socialists" still think socialism just means when the government does stuff. But there is still a rising left wing movment especially with younger people. Just have to wait for the Tory pensioners to die out.

bumb dis

at least canada has the ndp

Turkey should be light blue.

- Vietnam & Phillipines - light blue
- Indonesia - blue
- Saudi Arabia - Blue, Iran - light Blue, Qatar - Blue
- Germany - light Red
- Nepal - Blue, Pakistan - Blue, Cambodia Blue

Cleaned up and updated map because this is fun and interesting.

Isn't the PVDA stalinist?

I think when all the oldies start popping their clogs is when the left will begin to rise in this country. We just have to keep drip feeding people our rhetoric, and attracting users here.

It's fucking hilarious that Holla Forums's only explanation for where we are is "muh bots". I've seen their influence falter on Holla Forums more than a few times,

You didn't listen, Holla Forums. Why didn't you listen?

Stop that. Get some help.

Why China or Russia in blue??
In Russia there is a huge communist movement but all not proPutin socialist parties are banned (the CPRF is shit of course) but there are lots of youth movements are people just vote the CPRF because is the legal communist one (although a huge part of their voters now they are shit)
Why China in blue when they have an strong Maoist movement?? Yes, the chinese goverment is capitalist, but there is an underground maoist movement really strong, and the mayority of the population will support turning maoist (search about Maoist Communist Party of China), still the goverment opposition is really strong.
Why Philiphines in Blue?? The communist party of Philiphinnes is the fastest growing party there, and also here is the NPA a communist guerrilla wich was founded a few years ago, and contol huge Chunks of the northern island, jungles and villages.
Also why Japan in blue?? The communist party is the second/thrid of the country, and is specially popular within the youth, wich a much greater percentage of votes than socialist parties in France or Spain.
All this contries have a much stronger and young letist movements that the majority of the ones marked as red.
And to end Why Colombia in blue??
Colombiahas lots of socialist/anarchist guerrillas with thousend of fighters (although FARC are just narcos) like the ELN or PLA.

I love the idea of this map, but how are this places left wing movement weaker than in fuking Quebec??, how is it in the same level of left movement than India were the Naxalites control one third of the country?
There are also another examples but this are the biggest mistakes I think.

whats stopping you from fixing it yourselves

True, how did you edit it??

ELN only have like 1,500 fighters left now.

just ms paint

...

maybe im just way to pessimistic but I think this is pretty generous with the pink.

Yeah, i've been to generous I think,
If anyone is interested I did it here:
mapchart.net/world.html

Any suggestion?

Nepal is actually run by MLs though

Sweden should be dark blue. The state of the left is incredibly pitiful here.

Israel reporting in

Left vs Right in Israel is solely on the political level regarding the Palestinian question. Our only relevant leftist party are succdems, with some (mostly Arab) genuine leftist parties scattered across the political landscape that have no presence whatsoever. This is really the gist of it all, everyone is distracted with either scaremongering about security or the relationship with the Palestinians, so you wouldn't hear leftist discourse on a regular basis. Tel-Aviv is idpol central infested with hipster faggots.

What else is that supposedly there's this big worker union, but for some fucking reason until recently I've never heard about it over the years while working in several different factories. I'm pretty sure my coworkers didn't hear about it either. Reading about it on Wikipedia it said that most leftist groups criticize it for being inefficient which may explain why it's practically a non-entity and the conditions in the industrial districts are shit. In the last factory I worked at most workers were elderly ex-USSR immigrants, working in the same factory for over a decade, and what blows my mind is that despite growing in a socialist state capitalist environment they'd be ready to slave away for barely above the minimum wage for years upon years. Having to do overtime on almost a regular basis (which accumulates to 11.5 hours of work), sometimes coming on their days off, and all of that just for the sake of making - not even a living wage - a survivable wage, just enough to pay the bills, eat and buy the very thing they've made in the factory.

What are your thoughts on Maki, and the Joint list ??
They have like 10% of votes
So should it dark, or light blue??

Venezuela should be pink.

Why? Does not a huge chunk of the population want socialism??

I'll be honest I don't really follow the politics here tightly, but the the Communist party is too small and fringe that no one considers them and the Join List is exactly what I was talking about. Their votes undoubtedly came mostly from Arabs which means they're pretty irrelevant in the everyday discourse.

Light blue.

Although, dark blue could work as well because our government is growing more and more capitalistic. However, there is a glimmer of hope. So light blue.

ALL HAIL GOD EMPEROR KRIS
BRINGER OF CHORIPANES AND SATELLITES

Actualized

You should give Ethiopia, Mozambique and Angola some love.

Why? Are there striong leftist movements there?

The US is purple because Bernie Sanders gatewayed a lot of people. Also the Greens are moving towards eco-socialism and eco-communism. There platform is more radical than it was in 2012.

Turkey is Red solely because the PKK

Syria is Dark Red because YPG and the Communist party of Syria

Greece has anarchists support

Cyprus has a VERY strong Marxist-Leninist Party

Nepal is the same as Cyprus

Mexico has the Zapitists

Russia has CPRF which is Ok

China has some TRUE Maoist support

Japan has RAJ and a for some reason a eurocommunist party with parliamentary representation.

Taiwan has a left independence movement

South Africa has no real left moment. It’s just idpol.

Lebanon has a resurgent communist party

Yemen has the huthies

India has the Naxalites

Nearly enough, and Japan communist party become the opposition in the last local elections and are the fastest growing party.
Also the adittion of Cyprus is correct.
But why Venezuela in blue??, there is huge chunk of the Venezuelan population who wants socialism, there is a stronger movement than in countries like France or England.
Also why Iceland purple?
And why Iran red? There used to be an strong communist movement, but now any socialist party is forbidden.

In Venezuela neoliberal support is rising

Iran is red because of the Kurds in Iran

For Iceland

Spain should be in red tho.

Why?

Greelander checking in. Shit's hopeless. Found out today I'm not the only Greenlandic communist.

Greenlander again: any pdfs you guys can suggest so I could possibly make my village self aware? We're kinda on the verge of it but people still need to work government jobs if they don't want to hunt to a living

Dude who said that I lived in neo-liberal hell.
I live in eastern PA in the US if you want to specify the region

You being a communist in Greenland means , communism reachs everywere were humatity is, If there is not, have you considered creating a party or group??

I feel you my fellow Pole

People in Greenland, from what I know like political autonomy. Tell them that communes is the ultiment form of political autonomy and that’s it’s similar to what they had before Danish colonization combined with technology. Also have them read Das Kapital and understand the law of value.

How's life in Greenland? I'm interested.

Also, is the capitalist mode of production even dominant in Greenland?

are you white or greenlandic inuit? :3

I really have no clue about the specific circumstances in Greenland, but local self organisation and autonomy from central gov could hit some nerves. Also I guess that shit is really exspensive to import so communal workshops with 3D printers, cutters, metal working ect. so replacement parts and other stuff can be produced locally could be interesting to advocate for. Enviromental justice specifically in regards to climate change could be interesting.

Some adabtation of Communalism and specifically Bookchins version of ecology(no save the animal shit which hunters probably hate) could be an interesting direction to persue to build arguements, but in the end you have to look at your local situations and find the issues around which permanent collective organising and action can be build.

inuit Greenlander, as a starnch atheist since I feel religion here is helping drive up the suicide rate

I've had to basically hide my Sydicalist ideas due to the support of liberalism everyone has. Also Greenland is in such massive dept that we fear any strong shift in politics and Denmark will demand all that debt. And we can't appeal to the United States since NATO is a thing, we have oil, their track to record in the Americas isn't so clean. And we don't want to be the next Chile with a Pinoshit of our own

Sorry for shit delays. I live on an island that is so fucking isolated it doesn't appear on Google maps and only Greenland and Denmark's government know where we are

Yes and no. It's a funky way since you still have to pay your taxes and shit but thankfully everything is nationlized so we don't have to worry about fucktoids raising the prices so only the people who live near the ports can afford it. But like I said it's weird. Everyone in some way or another works for the government, either they sell fish to them who then sell to other places (if they don't eat them for food). I got a pretty lucky job, delivering water to nearby villages but that's primarily from my body structure and I'll probably be replaced when I hit 40. The big thing as mentioned before is we're trying to at least partially pay back our dept which is why everyone in some way or anther works for the government

thats actually sick

How the dicks is Canada light blue?

make germany light blue or dark blue again.

Die Linki

Houthis are in no way leftist. Just because they are against saudi arabia doesn't change the fact that they are shia fundamentalists like hebollah

You have also got Izquierda Unida, which contains the Partido Comunista Español.
Other parties (which almost nobody cares about) are the Partido Comunista de los Pueblos de España (PCPE) or Partido Comunista Obrero Español (PCOE).

Maduro completely fucked over any hope for the Venezuelan left for the coming couple of decades at the least. They won't vote for the left until neoliberalism has turned the country into an immense sweatshop.

Was, user. Was. And besides, the CPRF is pretty reactionary. Which is exactly why they got shafted so badly, as they're pretty much united Russia but with communist symbolism.

Requesting source as to their strength and numbers. Meanwhile, China is the locomotive of modern capitalism. Sorry.

They're hopelessly outnumbered, the only far left party, and are Kautskyites IIRC.

Guerrillas are pretty much gone, and the government has almost always sucked yankee dick. Also the mismanaged civil war killed any hope for the left in parliamentary politics.

images are misleading. the CPRF is still huge and has a strong ML representation within, the CoR, a relative newly founded ML party that got sick with Zhyuganovs shit, is doing pretty well for having just started.

The CPRF is only massively underrepresented because of new election laws that fucked them over. Does this image look like UR having made only the 50 % of votes they got? CPRF still hit 20 % which is an okay result for them. It's the seats they got fucked over with.

correction:
13.34 % CPRF
53.20 UR
mixed shit up with last election. 13 % is bad, but still not as bad as the parliamentary representation is leading to believe

I just want somewhere to move too, I'm so fucking done with the US

Progremos is just Social Democracy with a post modernist hippie carrot on a stock, riding on the name of its leader. A constant dissappointment except for when they remembered the members of congress of the GAL.

In Portugal we have the CDU which is a coalition between the Communist Party and the Greens. They get about 8% to 9% in some elections and 11% to 13% in others. The other part is Left Bloc and they're idpol retards and very inconsistent. They get 5% in one year and 9% the other.

I've thought about joining the communist party but I still don't know much about communism and I have to read a lot still and I really don't know the implications of joining a political party and what people do there.

Join the JCP, it's not that big of a deal. It depends on where you're from and how many comrades there are in the area, but it's basically the scouts but communist and with a lot more alcohol. Most of the time you'll be organizing protests and getting people to join those protests.

You don't need to have a degree in political science to join, you just need to have your head in the right place. A lot of militants are just working class kids who are class conscious enough to get active, most haven't read mch more than maybe the Manifesto.
It's good to have some theory if you want to move up in the ranks, though.

That would be one of the worst places to move to as a communist.

Let me enjoy my escapism, user. I'm trying to find my magic mountain

Who is /agrarian socialist/ here?

Its just that small Bavarian towns are extremely conservative.

It's a damn shame too, they're beautiful

That's okay, the future is Nazbol.

Is Japan okay too?
