French Legislative Elections

Thoughts on the physical embodiment of neo-liberalism winning a complete majority in the French parliament.

Turnout was like 17%.

Don't think the electoral route is the way to go in France. They pretty much have a presidential system where assembly just signs off on whatever.

where were you when Macron was revealed to be Neoliberal Jesus?

I wonder how far he would have gotten if the French media wasn't constantly slobbering all over his dick and Trump wasn't busy discrediting the anti-immigrant right.

Funny how everyone tongues Macron's asshole for getting massive majorities when hardly anyone fucking votes because the options are so shit.

Is that a real cover?

Does this confirm Occitans are /ourguys/?

This. Neoliberalism wins no matter what

where is the key ?

WTF is this system?

Is it a win for Melenchon?

Source? Not really doubting you

Remember when Hollande was treated that way?

I'm just happy François Ruffin became a deputy.
He is the editor-in-chief of Fakir, one of the few relevant far-left newspapers here, and him and Macron were in the same high-school.

Why such low turnout?

Melenchon and the PCF got like 27 seats and collectively ~13% of the vote.

I guess the whole vote for people you hate to prevent those evil nazis from gaining power approach has finally eroded all faith in the electoral system. You cannot maintain a system designed to protect a status quo that almost no one wants forever.

The left should have gone with Le Pen. That way Macron wouldn't have as much political capital.

It was a long-time coming. Neoliberalism destroys and replaces social democracy in every advanced country sooner or later.

42%

Still absolutely abysmal for a French election, so you shouldn't feel the need to exaggerate to prove your point.

Melenchon's corpse isn't even cold yet and you have the audacity to say such things?

What are the chances that this will collapse in to new right-wing and left-wing groups (or just to existing ones) in the parliament within 1-2 years?

That huge win and not really having one coherent ideology/platform can't work out in the long run. No way.

Worked for Bill Clinton.

How fucked is france and how did this even happen?

macrons platform is brown people and lgbt are alright, btw we're gonna privatize everything hehe

Same thing that's happening everywhere else.

People are frustrated and angry with the establishment, start supporting a misguided right-wing backlash against the establishment, establishment media freaks the fuck out and starts fear-mongering and calling backlash Nazis so everyone votes for the "lesser of two evils" (i.e., neoliberalism).

But the Democrats are an established party though and Clintonites had already been taking over within for quite some time.

Fair point.

I'm a burger so my knowledge of other countries' political parties is very lacking. I try to do my best though.

The bigger they are

The neoliberal centre have recognised that their post-ideological barbarism is no longer viable under the left-right dichotomy and as such have completely abandoned all pretence of such differences existing in their ranks.

Macron isn't a sign of the end of far right populism, he's the exact opposite.

ABSTENTION: 57.36%
Qu'on se le dise.

Let's just wish that the Socialist Party is dead for good.

The media and the establishment don't fear Le Pen at all as it is them which manufactured her supposed electoral "success".
Mélenchon, on the other hand, made them freak the fuck out during the last two weeks of the presidential election.

i saw it on twitter… it might be fake but possibly not

It's not a fake

Honestly this could be good timing if a financial crisis happens; both May and Macron could get the boot. Even if that's not the case I prefer neoliberalism to cancerous reactionaries like Le Pen and Trump because you can't mask the failures of neoliberalism on "they were just racist guize". Either way the economic conditions that allowed for neoliberalism to flourish are failing anyway. Macron's house is built on a foundation of sand.

Neoliberals get replaced by right wingers. There has never been a case where a center right/left party has been supplanted by a more left wing one.
