Between 0000 and 0100 GMT this morning a fire broke out on the lower levels of a 24 storey tower block. The fire is believed to have been caused by an exploding fridge cooling unit. The layout of the apartments places the kitchen adjacent to the outside walls, which had recently been fitted with highly flammable insulation as part of a rejuvenation effort. It is thought that power surges caused by faulty wiring, which also caused a small fire in 2013, could have caused the fridge to explode, and may have damaged mains fire alarms earlier. By the time the fire alarms had begun to sound, a large section of the exterior wall was engulfed in flames. This was further exacerbated by a "stay still" fire drill order as the towers are supposed to be designed to isolate fires to each apartment for two hours, however the entire block was engulfed within four. By the time an evacuation order was issued, the fire had reached the staircase, which is also where the gas piping was housed.
Residents had formed a group to draw attention to these issues, fearing for their safety after the earlier fire. Eventually the landlords gagged their action group and they began to suspect it would take a major incident for people to notice. Sadiq Khan has been briefed to expect over 200 deaths.
capitalism is the most efficient system, people are encouraged to cut costs because of competition and thus prices decrease and everyone's better off
what do you mean by "the appartments are retardedly expensive and also shitty"? obviously its cause of government regulations that they use flammable insulation

She is going to go down as quite possibly the worst conservative prime minister in a long time and for a long time to go.

The 100 year anniversary of 1917 is a good time for a revolution.
Kayden Murphy
Actually a point of mild interest to me here is whether the fire was exacerbated by the renovation procedure, or if it was basically inevitable in the building design. (I mean even in the 1970s, was a single set of stairs really a good idea?)
The building itself was as far as I can infer built by the government in 1974 as council housing, but is now run on behalf of the council by a private company under some weird 90s fuckery arrangement thrown together at the last minute by the late-conservative government.

From the article it seems like the adding of insulation caused the fire to spread rapidly (who the fuck thought flammable insulation was a good idea, I wonder if it was cheaper, hmm), combined with electrical failures, but that should be expected in a hastily put up 40 year old council block.

Reminds me of a blogpost I can't find right now. Gist of it was as follows: London has a deep dark secret lying underneath it. In some parts of tube-stations, you can hear pumps working like crazy - what are they doing?
They're pumping water out. When the stations were built, London was a serious industrial city and industry was taking up water from underground, so the water-table was artificially low. London was a serious industrial city because it was alongside a river - with the invention of the shipping container, that's no longer the case. London's deep, dark secret - hidden beneath all the financial sector buildings, the service-economy PR, the Olympic spectacle and so on is that London is redundant in the age of the shipping container And slowly people will trickle out in search of jobs, and water will trickle back in.

Fucking disgusting.
This is capitalist "efficiency" at work.
What kind of thinking even goes into this?
The UK has a housing shortage. The problem is landlords that contribute absolutely nothing except leeching off the rent of their tenants, and porky ignoring safety regulations.
Owen Hall
They're designed for containment, in theory each flat takes hours to burn up on its own. The problem is the fire spread externally, going around fire doors and spreading all over the building because of the cladding, which set the entire exterior on fire and let the fire spread through the windows.
Dominic Ross

The sub-human gutter-snake is right. They filled it with napalm and set it off. It is one way to balance the diversity though.
They must have been mad, literally mad - to tell them to wait inside for 4 hours while the building went up. Absolute insanity. Worse so that the people living in them obeyed - when they themselves knew and had been complaining about the unsafeness of the building. Never listen if something doesn't make sense.

Not just the west, but London in particular. (Though iirc shipping containers did do a lot to globalise component construction.) Shipping containers make manufacturing right beside a port less crucial, since you can just put standardized containers on trucks or trains at the factory and send them to a port that way, rather than having that be a bit of a faff compared to putting factories close to ports to begin with.
Since land/housing values have climbed, it wouldn't surprise me if it was significantly more attractive to manufacture the few things we still make inland and then move them long-distance to a port instead of staying in London.

Reading about the questionable refurbishment and overall design of this building for health and safety is really making me mad. And among other things I'm reading, it's making me want to don a tinfoil cap. The Left needs to be on this.
That's… quite possible. I'm hoping is that it's "only" around 50, The fire was in the middle of the night on a weekday, there weren't any alarms, and a lot of the people say they were only woken up by shouts and screams from the street below. I don't know what the actual occupancy was, but there were 500 bedrooms in that building and the upper floors, where people were most likely to be trapped, haven't been searched. Police and firefighters are saying it will take weeks before they find all the bodies.
Brandon James
They confirmed some hours ago everyone who was stuck above floor 21 is dead, the heat of the building reached 1000C, you cremate bodies at 800C so that's why they don't think they'll ever know exactly who died there.

I was watching it from the moment it happened pretty much, saw a load of people in a flat on one of the upper floors flicking the light switch on and off to get assistance, went for a cigarette, by the time I got back the entire floor was in flames. People who say COINTELPRO and Bourgeoisie Propaganda are correct, but it also has to do with material conditions. Black people's lives have been improving as they (slowly) approach parity with whites, despite overall working class decline. You see this reflected in life expectancy trends, where black lifespans have been increasing, but white working class life expectancy has been falling for years. It does not come quite so naturally to oppose a system under which your relative status has increased.

In the early hours of the blaze, he was asked questions as to whether he knew about problem at the high rise, which he refused to answer, when pressed on what could have caused the fire, he started talking about how disrespectful it would be for him to start speculating, then he said he would be leaving as he had lots to do, when asked what he would be doing, he sat silently on the phone for several seconds, then hung up.
Also, the property companies in this area want these low income homes to be razed so that they can build luxury flats, this is just a boon for them.
Jonathan Johnson
Is this really the case? Seems like a huge contradiction. I mean more people are poor than rich. Why build more housing for rich people? Where't the demand?

It adds up. By cutting corners, even small ones, on every single aspect of the building's design, construction, maintenance, services, staffing, project finances, oversight, and inspection, I'm sure it sums to a tidy fortune.
Gavin Wilson
So, 17 confirmed dead and the same number critically injured, while the death-toll could still double. At worst up to 60 corpses could come out of this. That currently makes it about 294 quid of savings per lost life, 83 and one-third pounds a piece if up to 60 die.
That's quite the bargain, saving cash and spending lives, considering that the Yanks have approximated the value of the irreplaceable human life at about 8-9 million bucks.
Capitalism at its finest. Maximize income while minimizing costs. I'm quite certain, and disgusted at the very thought, of some damn accountant bringing up a list of "savings acceptable compared to the risk involved" in a project budget meeting. Labourfeed 🌹 @labourfeed 59m59 minutes ago Demands from protesters occupying Kensington Town Hall: 1. Rehouse victims locally 2. Council funds to help 3. Full list of tower residents
How the fuck have they not released a full list of residents already?
Anthony Walker
Which Tory heavyweight will come out as critical of the government as a champion of the victims in their bid for PM?
Dylan Myers
Because the odds are good that a bunch of the bodies are fucking ashes. They might never get a definite answer.
Jose Myers
They'll know how many residents there were and how many are missing, the dead will almost certainly be in three figures.
Austin Garcia
Why would they listen though? Building's on fire! I mean, fuck that.
I think they're leaving the town hall and going to Grenfell Tower itself
Anthony Gray
Slightly behind, but did anyone notice the media saying that reports of the fire being started deliberately are false? Hardly anyone said this, is it an attempt to discredit the protesters?

Mass chants of "Tories OUT" heard now.

I was just about to post this, every single story has a one-liner like that.

Holla Forums and /britpol/ have been sperging out about 'muh raceriot' and how the protesters are a threat to white britain. rightist 'anti-establishment' position is as usual to single out a section of the proletariat and attack them as a threat whenever anyone even raise their voice against the state or Capital. Establishment shills and porky cocksuckers the lot of them.

The fuck? As if people wouldnt pay a bit more for sprinkler, fire alarms and fireproofing.
Dylan Young
That's not the case and everyone in the UK knows it except dense Tories playing dumb. It's widely known nationally that London is a dumping ground for foreign money, the entire capital is a long term car park for Saudi, Russian and Chinese cash.
David Brown
Reminder that the expensive fire sprinkler is a red herring and that the fire proof insulation could be afforded at less than £10 per resident.
Yeah, I'm not sure how it works because I am not a super rich porker whose main problem in life is "how the fuck do I hide all this money?" but here is how I think it goes down: UK has lowest corporation tax in Europe Tax exemptions for property Property investment in the UK is good to get in on because half the government are greedy landlords that will never let the value go down, and the price has been increasing massively for years
End result: Loads of people put their businesses in the UK, then buy up property in the capital since that's where property value increases the fastest and because instead of paying more tax they're now making more money in property speculation that's off the books.
Adrian Parker
...
Lincoln Brown
The problem is that we aren't building shit AT ALL in the major cities. Even if remove immigrants we won't have enough houses and apartments. And you can't say that immigrants are doing most of the pushing of the housing price since it's usually the non-immigrant areas and in the inner cities where shit explodes.
Go to country side and you can find a couple of houses for the same price of 1 apartment in Stockholm.
John Richardson
There is a housing surplus, not a shortage. The is a shortage is of people able to pay what the owners demand, and no incentive to lower rents because letting the poors live inside only drives down the value.

The swedish housing bubble is propped up by high demand, speculation, low interest rates and low requirements on getting loan. The central bank even has a negative interest rate on keeping money there, in order to encourage speculation in assets thus driving up prices.
Add that to the fact that only luxury apartments are being built, with many of them being left empty due to just not being sold or being bought purely in speculation. This leads to the ridiculous situation we have today, muh immigrants is merely a small factor in this. Blaming the housing bubble on muh immigrants is like blaming it on individual house owners being "greedy".
Christian Cooper
lolwut
If anything, the biggest real estate dealers in the UKuck are middle eastern.
John Ward
...
Xavier Green
I highly doubt that is the case. Here in Norway housing prices are high because of several factors: housing sharks (speculators) buying up everything and pushing up the prices, most property is owned by a select few families, realtors who facilitate the sales usually work for the banks that give the loans, and finally almost only large contractors get to develop land, and they build slick looking apartments with the shittiest materials you can imagine and they (if they own what they're building) or the owning company make insane profits. Through these measures banks, realtors, contractors, and speculators (oftentimes the same businesses occupy many of these roles) control the housing market by not building or selling anything if the profits aren't high enough, and when people are screaming for housing and are willing to pay whatever (and banks tell them how much money they can take in a loan, which is at the sweet spot of max profit vs min risk for the bank) corrupt municipal politicians and bureaucracy gives the green light for these faggots to develop the few green areas that are left. This usually ends with shitty, slick looking, insanely small homes crammed into the last green lungs or agricultural areas of the municipality and sold for dizzying profits.
Also, even municipal housing meant for people who are not well off money wise is sold at market price, not at material value.
So, seeing as the housing market is firmly in bourgeois hands this ("bubble") would happen whether or not immigration and population growth occurred.
Henry Cook
Nearly 1/3 of Sweden's current population are immigrants. Porky "investment" antics certainly aren't helping, but you can't increase population that much in a mature 1st-world economy without causing problems.
It's just a meme, bro. Honestly, we should bring back the shamrock, given the 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧DUP🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧's intervention, and Scotland's Tory turn.

Dylan Murphy
Yes, and your idea that negative interest bonds are a porky plot to force asset speculation (which is precisely backward, they came into being because porky had already exhausted every vehicle in which to stash their plunder other than government debt, so some central banks have been intelligent enough to take advantage of this by restricting cash supplies and pushing interest as low as possible on their bonds), for instance, indicates you might not know entirely what you're talking about.
Jason Cruz
Respond to my post then instead of parrotting your immigration redpills
Jonathan Kelly
Hmm, maybe we shouldn't focus on being particularly clever when commenting on asinine comments and clips in the mainstream media, but just do something like this. Let's figure out whether a writer or TV pundit is a landlord (or that person's parents) and cont how often that is the case.

Because they have so much wealth that they literally have nowhere else to put it, except for unstable instruments whose risk of default is so high that negative-interest bonds slowly nibbling away at it is safer, or actually investing in the real economy to improve industrial stock and infrastructure like "capitalists" are supposed to. The capital glut is so incredibly severe, stable governments have porky "investors" completely at their mercy if they choose to exploit them.

You know the establishment will immediately spin any proposals about giving empty houses to people as if you asked for making random grandmas homeless for the lulz, similarly to how they spin anything about redistributing stuff. That's why the issue of what is legitimate protection of individual rights over something should always be phrased in terms of in-person access to it. That is, the thing as a use value.
I am not prevented from listening to a song by you making a copy of it, whatever the legal system has to say about that. In a legal system organized around the production of use values instead of maximizing a few assholes' profits, there would be no conflict here between what the law says and what you are likely to do anyway and what I frankly don't give a shit about. For physical things we don't have to make all decisions based on tricky comparisons between different people about who of them needs or wants something in a more intensive way, comparisons that are basically speculation (though there are some interesting methods for teasing out approximately honest answers).
There are physical limits to how much a single person of crazy wealth could possibly consume in food etc. and there is so much stuff in the world and the gap between the richest and the poorest is so big that we can make big changes to who owns what while still pretty much respecting that you keep what you do use yourself. A person who owns a dozen houses is physically incapable of occupying them simultaneously and obviously uses them as a means to obtain income. And so on.
Jackson Gray
‘ROYAL’ BOROUGH ONLY FOR THE ‘RIGHT PEOPLE’
"According to Cabinet Member for Housing Cllr Rock Feilding-Mellen, the new policy concentrates on providing social housing for ‘the right people’, these being ‘households and families in the middle of the income spectrum’.
Opposition Labour Deputy Leader Cllr Emma Dent Coad said:
‘I am saddened and sickened by this blatant effort to rid the borough of low income and vulnerable families."
You know, this almost makes me think that they burned down the building on purpose, as a form of population control.

Why on earth do you think 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧they🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 carried out £8.6m regeneration works last year and only succeeded in making the building less safe?
That tower block has had numerous fires over the past three decades yet only the most recent one has ended in catastrophe. The decision to use the more flammable cladding was not simply a cost cutting exercise (only saved £5k).
🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧They🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 knew exactly what they were doing.
I wonder how much in benefits the government has been saved on spending for the 50 to 100 people that died
Jeremiah Davis
So what's happening tonight?
Blake Fisher
Revolution hopefully.
Camden Kelly
Is there another march planned?
Henry Anderson
Not sure. Surprised there isn't more spontaneous rioting though.

should have happened last night, the moment's gone

It's perfect the way it is. Literally the only thing that could possibly improve it is another two panels with the guy with the sign leaving and the capitalist keeps gunning people down.

What do you think lads? Will the march on July 1st be Poll Tax Riots 2: Electric Boogaloo? Will you be there?

1st july's a bit crap in belfast and i cant leave the country so will monitor proceedings from a bar somewhere. but everyone who can be there should make the effort. beyond their immediate purpose big demos are a way to network for future organisation.
This guy says he saw it burn and doesn't think it was started by a fridge.
Joseph Powell
He doesn't say that it wasn't started by a fridge, when he says "I don't think that was entirely an accident" he's implying that the flammable material has deliberately been strapped to the building to provoke disaster and clear out the rest of the tower blocks from the area.
Pic from a reply he got. Can people who read Breitbart be saved?
Evan Turner

Eli Ramirez
How many liberals took to stop the march? Anyone know how many people the march had?
Have you seen the law in question? It's a flat-out attack on free speech on the internet. It's one of those laws that literally everyone has broken at one time or another, but the government only enforces when it needs someone to go away.
Don't forget insurance payout and the opportunity to build another empty luxury vbuilding in its place.
I suggest adding something to make the liberal different, and the last panel has the liberal walking past the shooter and saying something that makes it clear they're close ("see ya at the pub, Whomever").
There's a good chance these stats are botted. It's ridiculous how big botting has gotten, in aRussian mall you can buy likes and thumbs-up and whatever in a fucking ATM-like thing.

it's weird you're falling into the same game of one political party is better than the other!!! but the building design for that tower was a death trap so no one gets a pass lmfao

Preston and Lancaster's pretty nice, but it's not really the sort of place you want to wind up getting stuck in a white area if you're old, alone and Muslim, typically.
Grayson Sanchez
Preston is an absolute shit hole I was talking about other areas of Lancashire and Lancashire has many cities / towns with a lot of muslims such as Burnley so I don't think they'd feel too bad.
Elijah Hernandez
Wew have you been to the backwaters? Forgot Burnley is doing alright now.
Joseph King
Well I went to university in Preston for a year and it utterly depressed me, I'm from Yorkshire so it shouldn't be too different but it really felt like it was, horrible place and the locals are a special kind of nasty, all the students were warned not to go on nights out on Friday/Saturday because that's when all the locals go out.
William Campbell
Preston is one of the safest places in Lancs, it actually has a police force.
Joshua Wilson
Well recently the worst street in Britain for crime was in Preston town centre.

Lucas Allen
How recently? The figures I found said London and Manchester, and then it was just reported crime - other places don't report it because the response time is so high and they take no further action
Do you live in a city in Yorkshire by any chance?.
Joseph Williams
most of them are black or Asian, that doesn't mean they are all refugees you retard
No I live in a town but I've lived near Leeds before and I found Preston to be a lot worse than Leeds.
Camden Butler
It's mindless to rehouse refugees in London if a flat in London could pay for 3 in another part of the country, it makes absolutely no sense and is a waste of money that could be used to help other people.
Austin Ward
The map was just glitched. I think I recognise the street and it's just your typical post-industrial abandoned factory district. Preston probably is more dangerous than Leeds, but what I'm saying is that Preston is far safer than most other places in Lancs. I'm pretty sure there's a serial killer in my town the authorities are pinning on accidents.
Carson Sullivan
Yes no doubt you are right I am just comparing it to my experiences.
Cooper Edwards
not if its empty and requisitioned by the government
Tyler Wright
Philip Hammond doesn't understand how water works.
Ayden Wright
It's still worth three times the price of a flat elsewhere in the country and the government would have to reimburse the owner.
Jack Carter
That's where you're wrong, kiddo!
Asher Garcia
LOL no. Not doing so would be against human rights laws that the UK has internationally obligated themselves to uphold. I'm still in favour of them doing it, and to also follow it up with making stricter laws regarding housing speculation, but there's no way for the state to get their hands on these houses without reimbursing. This is definitely expropriation and the European convention on human rights just plainly states that expropriation has to be reimbursed.
Easton Ortiz
Then the owners of the property will take the government to court and win substantial amounts of money therefore costing alot more than just rehousing those people outside of London.
Also this
Zachary Foster
Reimburse them however much they paid for it adjusted for inflation.
Housing aside, other living expenses are also far higher in London than the rest of the UK. But then, taking them into a 1st-world country at all wastes dozens or hundreds of times more money per refugee than using foreign aid to support them elsewhere.
Really, this isn't about fiscally sane action on any level, it's about people who are victims of a disastrous failing by British government and business being treated as disposable, and failing in their obligations to ensure disasters are absorbed gently by the whole of society (or particularly those responsible, in cases where that is obviously so, such as this) rather than harshly by its victims alone. The UK can't allow such antics to continue unpunished without their whole society coming unraveled.
Levi Morales
Reminder that Parliament routinely outright ignores European law since its authority is below British parliamentary legislation.
You don't have a fucking clue what you're talking about, do you? There are laws to requisition properties with compensation in the UK already.

It's funny how you are treating it as if Labour won the election, the momentum strategy failed and has led to yet another 5 years of Tory rule.
Brayden Bailey
Chris Leslie pls go
Gabriel Carter
Labour gained like 30 seats whilst the tories lost their majority. How is that not a victory?
This is not America. The prime minister isn't a president. Elections aren't about who gets to be head of the government they're about who can win seats.
Ryan Diaz
Corbyn got more votes than Miliband. Corbyn. Not Labour.
Isaiah Morgan
You can't even call it another 5 year Tory rule since it is a minority government so May can't act however she wants anymore
Evan Johnson
Have you seen how many votes May got?
Winning an election is getting the most seats, Labour did not get the most seats they are 70 odd short, losing less than last time is not a victory at all.
A Tory lead minority government propped up by the DUP, absolutely zero Labour policies being implemented at all.
Matthew Sanders
May is fucked. You know she is, we know she is. Stop fucking us around and wasting all of our time and get a grip with the fact this government is practically an interim coalition.
Caleb Diaz
You're right.
Making a massive gain of seats on the other hand is.
Elijah Rogers
May may be fucked but the Tory part are not that's the point. If they manage to follow through on their Brexit promises and the country doesn't go into recession after 5 years of momentum controlled Labour the choice will be an easy one for your average swing voter.
Nope, still lost just by less, still not in power, absolutely nothing achieved.
Gavin Turner
And now May has to ensure every single one of the Red Tories and DUP are on the page. Party whips are going to be really busy. Labour needs less Tory defectors to block any legislation it doesn't want too.
People tend to forget that we expected Corbyn to inevitably lose in 2020, now the tables are turned that we are expecting him to win in the next election, whenever that may be.
Carter Bennett
Tory party whips have shown how good they are this week with Hammond now coming out with hard Brexit plans, someone who is about as remainer of a Tory as you can get.
Cooper Wright
Real elections when? Labour selections when? Purge when? GULAGS FOR BLAIRITES WHEN!?
Noah Campbell
As I said this is not America. It's not the PM who runs the show like a president it's parliament, and the more seats we win in parliament the better of a position we're in.
Blake King
Not only are social liberalism (why the fuck do you think I singled out the Red Tories?) different from Brexit worries, but now party whips have to deal with both polarizing factors in the party. It is an added stress to party unity that nobody wanted to happen
Luke Butler
May is the most popular person in the Tory party. That's how fucked they are. Take this information back to Progress and have them have a good think over it.
Asher Edwards
Yes but with the DUP the Tories can get through the Queens speech and the budget, Labour can not.
Absolutely false she has never been that popular to begin with, you watch the Tories replace her with a currently not well known 40 something male in 2019 and romp home come the 2022 election.
Hunter Perez
A Queens speech that might not even be recognizable from their manifesto.
If you say so Tory

Real talk now. Does anyone here actually expect something to come out of this?
Isaiah Bennett
Probably not under the Tories. If Labor or Sinn Fein forcing the DUP out of coalition through treaty obligations can knock over the Tory government, very possibly.
Colton Cox
Not really, although I'm not discounting the possibility. Protests are all well and good but this isn't nationwide enough and the public isn't radical enough for any genuinely revolutionary endeavour or even just toppling the current government over and forcing an election. I don't think that would even be a good thing. Labour isn't a leftist party and them capitalising on this will just be a waste, I'm more interested in this leading to a profound disillusionment with the British state altogether and local communities such as the one in Grenfell organising themselves on a mutual aid and even self defence basis. Only distancing the workers from the parliamentary politics and trust in the state can lead to a rise in radicalism and the conditions necessary for building dual power and any revolutionary endeavour in the UK.
I've been glad to see the rise in class consciousness resulting from this and hope the trend continues however. But protest is a dead end, its not going to become revolutionary and we gain little from the Tories collapsing just yet. Disillusionment in bourgeois politics and the identification of the class enemy by a rising tide of people is the greatest good we can hope for from this.
Lucas Ramirez
But that line of thinking has a flaw, imo. There is a gap between disillusionment with liberal democracy and organizing into movements to actively fight the problem, and in that gap, lies the threat of defeatist cynicism, which I'm very much guilty of. How would you suppose to overcome that pitfall that seems to gut every single momentum the far-left has managed to build in recent times.
Hunter Wright
I don't think the 'far-left' has managed to build anything in recent times. The leninist-derivative parties are for the most part tiny and more interested in their internal party disputes, the larger ones are invested into playing respectable parliamentary politics, other leftist movements in the west just aimlessly drift along trying to grasp onto causes, arbitrarily engaging in activism for a new minimum wage or any other issue or vague 99% bullshit.
We should focus on building dual power and taking hold of communities. Therein lies the seed of a revolutionary movement. Activism is always shallow and surface level, it slides off of the ideological edifice of liberalism like water off a pane of glass, what we need is a foothold and that is done through organising that isn't for 'events' but for things which are a constant part of life for those involved. Only this way can there be a public aware that the state is not on their side and of their class interest, which is the way to build a workers' vanguard that can carry out a revolution. People must be aware that they are historical agents and capable of action, not the consumer/subjects of a benevolently despotic government.
Matthew Diaz
Lmao… Sup, Sargon. May & anyone else who shit on Corbyn lost big time, especially in seats & onlookers' eyes, then had to eat their words. May fucked herself.
It's funny how you try to don the red flag, then shitpost, but are immediately called out for it. You're pushing for May… You're not redflag posting very well, lmao.
We usually ban false flaggers & rampant shitposters. You're just shitting up the thread. But at least those calling you out serve for others to see. So that's probably more effective. I just don't like to read so many posts clearly talking out of their arse. It wastes time & derails the thread from its actual topic.

Protest radicalizes and galvanizes. It brings in young people in a welcoming but emotionally intense environment that doesn't come around very often and is obviously so much more effective than online clicktivism. It builds networks, friendships and solidarity. You get drilled into your head what the police are actually all about. Mass protest is always about so much more than the stated aims. Protest unites people against porky (and against cynical anti-human sociopathic SWP trots and armchair accelerationist cunts who'll still be banging on about 'it's not the right time!' while their windows are put through). The long game is about constant exhausting solidarity, always taking the risk, and building on disappointments. Try again fail again fail better.
Man socialist meetings must have been way cooler when you agree with the speaker by saying 'right on'
Joshua Sanders
Just above 1/7 is not even close to "nearly 1/3", it's actually less than half of that. You can't just count children born in Sweden from immigrants, since you were talking about a rapid population increase from immigration, and while immigrants generally have a higher birth-rate (because they're generally poorer) it's not so high that it even makes sense to call it a significant effect wrt housing issues caused by population increase. Lastly, this doesn't take into consideration the fact that a significant part of those immigrants are from neighboring countries with whom Sweden has a rougly equal emigration rate.
Jason Martin
there are two big errors that people fall into (i would like to say they are more common in young people but actually i dont think so). one is "im getting involved because the revolution is happening NOW" this is millenarianism, attracts thrillseekers and fairweather friends. the other is "im not getting involved because the revolution isnt happening yet". this can be called many things but it attracts ppl v comfortable w/ excuses. calling protest a dead end but still harumphing about building class consciousness is absurd. i was 17 in 2003, the anti-war protests did it for me. 'such chances come but once a generation.'
Hudson Edwards
Very much agreed. Holy shit, me too! Unfortunately I was drugged out during most of that time. Awesome you participated in those. I bet it was a great feeling of solidarity & woke many people up/changed them for the better as far as world politics.

ROCK BASIL HUGO FEILDING MELLEN IS A HAPSBURG DESCENDED ARISTOCRAT WHOSE MOTHER WAS A COUNTESS WHO PERFORMED A TREPANATION ON HERSELF try wrappin ur brain around that
Hunter Anderson
I can certainly count descendants of immigrants, since this wave of immigration has been going on since the late 1990s, and there was another giant wave of immigration during the 1980s from Eastern Europe. Speaking of which, many of these "EU internal immigrants" are in fact either from 3rd-world eastern nations added in later enlargements, are themselves descended from those who immigrated to the EU, or both. On top of this, only 2nd-generation numbers are included in that paragraph. Both waves and all their (surplus over prior projections) descendants added together could easily sum to half or more of the population.
My point is that Sweden's present day population has been MASSIVELY enlarged, and its population made vastly poorer on average, in a very short span of time, because of insane immigration policies.
Colton Powell
Your post is just steadily increasing insanity. If you're going to include their children, why does it make sense to talk about immigration at all? I don't think I understand why you're talking about immigration. what the fuck are you talking about dude? are you actually schizophrenic? I just said that it doesn't make sense to look at immigration numbers wrt housing policy if you don't take other demographic information (I brought up emigration specifically but you could also look at age distribution) into consideration. You can't just look at immigration, 15% of population being immigrates doesn't necessarily mean there was a 15% increase in population. If you actually think this, then you're completely unreliable see: fucking nuts and I dont know why the fuck I'm even writing this. Sweden had a pop of 8 mio in 1970, before any demographically significant immigration, today they have a pop of 10 mio. Even if you're being exceedingly actually not just exceedingly, more like insanely generous and say that as a result of the Swedish drop in fertility rates that their native population decreased by say half a mil. Fuck it, let's be real generous and say their fertility was so weak their population decreased by a solid million. Heck, let's say a million swedish natives emigrated over the past 40 years and never came back. Wait, fuck it, let's say 2 million swedish natives emigrated permanently. This still leaves around 5 million swedish natives and the immigrant + descendant amount at exactly half. And all this leaves out the fact that population decrease as a result of falling fertility rates hasn't begun to happen in any reasonable scale anywhere yet. It's just resulted in an older population, not a smaller one yet. Average age has increased at just about the same rate as fertility has fallen in most first world countries. Baby boomers are only just now starting to die. I had to grant you somewhere close to 3 million disappeared swedish natives for the "weak" version of your claim to be true.
Saying that swedish population is even close to half immigrants and descendants of immigrants is just so outside of the realm of reality that I don't even know why the fuck I wrote this, it's absolute insanity.

No, people who spent literally their whole lives within British land and culture aren't immigrants. YOU HAVE TO GO BACK.
I won't pretend I know the impact immigration had on average Swedish citizens' wealth, but I can tell you this much: if you want to stop mass immigration, attacking immigrants is barking at the wrong tree. Porky is to blame here. Hell, Porky has always been your enemy, you just don't know it yet.
The media is playing a dangerous game. They're milking the history dry to get viewers and readers, but carefully avoid the slightest implication that Tories fucked up.

So these are pics of a trepanation? What's the backwards logic or ritual/excuse for given for this? Seems the only time it's warranted is when there's swelling of the brain with an immediate risk of death, right? And even then it would be done in a medical setting of course.
Someone please explain…
Also, this is why we need gulags. The absolute ruthlessness of acquiring & holding onto wealth that's so completely unreasonable while others starve or live in misery. These selfish cunts are exactly the sort of people that turned to fascism and before that, formed groups like the Black Hundreds in Russia; middle class, small businessmen, landlord types who care for nothing but their property and crushing the working class. They will need to be repressed and utterly annihilated for a socialist society to thrive.
Hunter Jenkins
So this is what the people who control the world do in their private time.
Ryan Miller
And how do you propose we stop people with the same mentality from appearing? Keep the gulags going on forever?

Jace Jackson
reeducation and continued class struggle
Brandon Mitchell
after privateownership of land is abolished it will become v difficult for them to protect it
Jace Campbell
Because odds are high that we far leftists would end up in one as well, if Stalin is anything to go by. Not to mention, well, that whole humanism thing.
Now that's a humane idea, because many rightwingers are just spooked or stupid and can theoretically be saved, but… how to actually go about it?
We both know that "reform through labor" or "re-education through labor" were just a couple of these slogans Mao was so fond of. In practice, they're just plain forced labor camps, gulags minus the Siberian winter. Effectively slave labor. Including some daily sessions of proselytizing won't convince anyone to join our cause, not when we arrested him and forced him to do backbreaking work. It might work in the sense a common prison would, i.e. he'll behave after he leaves just so he won't go back to that shithole. But actual re-education, nada.
I know people will turn their noses at such a goody-two-shoes idea, but the thing is, people will listen to you more if you treat them as human beings. This technique provides much better results than abuse in interrogations, and by the same token, odds are that it would work better to despook/educate than prisons. It goes against conventional wisdom – this man is a treat to your society, so you lock him away. But this "conventional wisdom" is fucking ancient, and Porky didn't think twice about using it; we can do better. If your society is worthy protecting in the first place, it should make the effort to make him see it.
I'm recorded of an article about how Utah's porkies greatly decreased homelessness: by the "counter-intuitive" way of giving them houses.
They'll try tho, but that's a matter for a different discussion.
Benjamin Lopez
lmao
Simple: education. If more people were educated we'd not run into these problems. These elitists would be taken to task, called out & stopped before amassing that wealth again.
Josiah Bell
amassing personal wealth is not possible under socialist mode of production, obviating the need for reeducation which for the capitalist class itself is useless anyway as it will not learn the lesson of history. reeducation is suitable for capitalist roaders inside the party, they can be sent to farms. capitalists themselves will be sent to the big farm in the sky.
Xavier Thomas
True, thanks. You forget I am little babby socialist. ;^)
Carter Morris
education now avoids re-education later

Well aside from the question of how to re-educate which I posted before, there's the issue of said roaders "coagulating" together inside the party. If the party is the only way to execise political power, it inevitably gets stuffed full of sociopaths and arrivists (I think this is something that has some "law" said about it). The USSR being the perfect example, as the roaders dismantled the system and partitioned it between themselves.

how do lower real estate values "degrade" things? does the police stop coming, do the shops go away? or is it just the desire to keep the filthy poors as far away as humanly possible?

This article is misleading. While technically they're in a "luxury block", the flats were built as social housing, they just happen to be near luxury housing complexes
