I came to Holla Forums during the September 2014 exodus following 4chan's ban of Gamergate discussion. I was mainly an /x/phile and didn't even know what Gamergate was at the time, but there was a thread about Holla Forums on /r/4chan, and as I had noticed a decline in the quality of 4chan even on /x/ I decided to check it out.

When I realized that 4chan was going down the dark road of censorship, and that Holla Forums was completely committed to free speech, I knew I had to be a part of it. I spent a fair amount of time on Holla Forums in those early days, and also experimented with the interesting new boards that popped up. I found /anarcho/ especially compelling. I still had some Anarcho-Capitalist leanings and believed in the "free markets are efficient" meme. They despooked me right good. After a while /anarcho/ died and I migrated here.

And the rest is history!

Here's my take on an analysis:
Being found on google is crucial, even if you don't want growth.
Right now the only people who find this place at a great scale are Holla Forumslacks unfortunately.
Some will come to learn and get converted inecononomic matters, while still holding on to most of their right wing social attitudes, but most come here to troll and shit everything up with swastikas, racism etc. The board gets increasingsly more Holla Forums-like in social issues and the few normies that do find it leave rigth away if they get the impression that every second poster is some kind of nazbol.
There are much leftists and bernie-tier liberals starting out in reddit and being alianated by the authoritarian paranoid shit going on there.
I got here myself after the catgirl thing, thinking to myself that these brocialists can't be worse then where I came from. Those are the people that this board could really profit from if you want to keep this board sane and alive and of course growth.
Those poeple generally don't know much about imageboards and easily give up if everything they find on Google is 8ch.pl. In 2015, people on 4/his/ always insulted my as /lefytpol/, because I objected to the idea that the middle ages were actually really great, but I had no idea what that was, although I had heard of 8ch.net. Then, somehow a year ago I found it but didn't quite get in, only to come back half a year ago (around early october/november) and they I stayed.

Nice times, and manged to never come by as a newfriend.

I knew Holla Forums was a thing since Gamergate, but I didn't give a fuck at the time because I was mainly browsing 4chan for /mu/ and I thought #GG was stupid as fuck.
I was starting to lose my sanity last year because I felt like everyone on the left became only obsessed with idpol and forgot the concept of class, but fortunately I stumbled upon Holla Forums by randomly browsing Holla Forums I think and it was incredibly therapeutic to see I wasn't alone, so I've stayed.

Speaking of Gamergate, it was the moment when I've discovered the liberal brand of idpol. I thought the whole thing was stupid for two reasons :
- Everyone seemed unable to make a reasonable synthesis of the anti- and pro-GG arguments. You had be unconditionally for or against the movement.
I honestly believe Anita Sarkeesian made some good points in her videos, and her deconstruction of the medium can give some interesting ideas to devs who want to subvert overused tropes, but that doesn't mean I think every video games should pander to overzealous liberals, or that corruption in the gaming journalism world is okay.
Anyway, I don't want to expand on that, I'm reliving some pretty unpleasant moments.

- While everyone went berserk about the Zoe Quinn case, no one was paying attention to the corruption and conflict of interests plaguing journalism in general.
6 billionaires own at least 90% of the mainstream media in my country, and it's the same everywhere. Very few people know who these powerful billionaires are, and what other companies they are owning.
They always use their newspapers and TV channels to push their (neoliberal) agenda in more or less subtle ways, and are consequently manufacturing consent very efficiently.

4/pol/ was constantly bitching about Holla Forums on /qa/ a few months ago and claiming that it had infiltrated the mod team there because their stupid HWNDU and "fire safety" threads were getting deleted. Early in the Trump hype i got into the hype for a short while, like a week or two until i started doing some research and realized he was a glorified con artist. For what it's worth, I found out about leftypol from our lord and savior, Professor Richard Wolff in the economic update. I was a total normie and this site scared the shit out of me. That was a long time ago and I've been posting since.
