Can the military be brought into class consciousness?

There are many things that burden potential recruits, active duty, and veterans

Disillusioned military veterans should the number 1 go to for any socialist looking to get people on their side.

vets are prime ground for politcal radicalisation both left and right. also in any case we should attempt to reach out to vets because the russia and german revolutions were won and lost because military support or the lack of it

I don't think this is possible when there's still a lot of Vietnam vets, they literally bled and died fighting leftism, anything that smells like Charlie will get them talking to any more recent vets and away from you

The Navy is already class conscious as fuck.
Remember Kiel and Kronstadt.

Also I heard same things about the Air Force, but the other branches? Not so much.

the fuck are you smoking? have you ever talked to a vet of any war? most talk about how they got shafted by their own guys either via conscription (vietnam and the korean vets still alive) or by an uncaring military and government (all of them). the few vets that clamour to kill commies or libs are doing it out of a sense of betrayal by their government, are idiots who haven't been in long/haven't seen action or are actual psychopaths

The Air Force is basically an evangelical cult and the attitudes of the Russian Navy in the early 20th century don't really reflect on the US Navy.

to follow up: "Fuck the Army" is a sentiment of quite a few soldiers in the army and people who have served.

I have know two actually, but just like the average American have no idea what communism is, but seem convertable.

I've got more evidence to back you up on that and a whole lot more about how revolutions actually succeed.

Exactly, the solution is simple, people think of communism and think gulags and throat slicing, just call workers owning means of production "economic democracy" or "economic patriotism"
everyone but the Ayn Rand clubs will love it.

Ye

Unban me this instant!

BRUH, IT WORKED!

That's such a fucking stupid post.

Shit, sorry bout the randomness I posted before. Ignore that.

Yeah, veterans (especially those with mental health issues) are pretty open to "new ideas" if that makes sense. When you say come home from some desert in The Middle East where you was being shot at non-stop by whoever ain't grateful for the "freedom" that's being bestowed upon them and don't get the hero's welcome you thought you'd get it really fucks with you. You're lost and look for something new to give your life meaning with and to distract from whatever mental health issues you developed while in the army.

I watched this Vice documentary a year or two ago bout how The Ku Klux Klan tries to look for new members amongst PTSD stricken white army veterans to boost their ranks. You should watch it. Like I said, veterans feel used and abused. A bed, a bowl of soup and a kind word can go a long way with them.

Yes, but you need to do more than preach. Don't suck their dicks like most right wingers like to do either. Just engage them in something that interests them and put info out there. Contrary to popular belief, not all members of the military are reactionary, brain-dead morons. They too want to protect their own interests. They've just been blinded by the ideology of the day. Same with a lot of cops. Get them over to our side, and they will undermine the state from the inside.

One thing I would fact I would like to note is that Bernie Sanders had more donations from the military members than Donald Trump did during the 2016 elections.

I am very aware that leftypol labels him as a socdem and "not a real socialist" however he was as far left as American voters were willing to go, and his populist theoretic reached veterans better than Trump did. Chomsky even said in BBC interview that Bernie avenged the word "socialist" in the U.S. after generations of distortion.

He had more donations than Trump. Maybe some of that has to do with experience with being head of the VA. (Would that be useful later? *wink wink*) He reached alot of young white males who make up most of the ranks, they chose between college debt or sitting down with a recruiter to avoid all of that.

Not to mention how many times Donald Trump treated the vet community at his rallies.

I have family that are vets, and none of them are right wing, or Trump supporters, and they are even semi-woke when it comes to the ruling class, but at the same time anytime I mention communism they point at the USSR, or North Korea, and use the "You really want to live in a shit hole like that" type of argument, and they aren't completely wrong (those places were shit), but it's the overwhelming idea that communism is a cult of death, and poverty that they can't seem to think outside of.

i have no problem with getting most conservatives to agree with me if i explain my point without using obvious communism words. it also helps if you use their retoric. for example support co-operatives by saying that it gives people a hand up not a hand out.

yup, they are the most useful people outside of ex-law enforcement and community/union leaders.

as in they're reverent of their service branch? this statement makes no sense to me. Navy are defnitely the least class cucked and then the regular army. Most class cucked are Marines and Air Force. Marines are dumb shock troops and Air Force are well heeled and well compensated.

I worded it wrong, but as someone who served in the Navy, I was surprised by the amount of class consciousness they were showing.
There were spooky right-wingers of course.
But compared to the whole military, the navy is pretty much the socialist faction.

Taken historical pretexts I have to wonder, why are leftists attracted to the sea?

dunno, i used to think it was becuse people with greater technical skills tend to be better read combine that with the bullshit in military service lead to more class consciousness but a buddy of mine told me that the USAF is a fundamentalist hellworld.

Why not set up a leftist run aid for vets and their families? You dont have to shove ideology down their throats just show them leftists care more than the gov.

I met a lot of people from the other branches.
And you are correct, the Air Force has a lot of fundies, the most of any branches. But also a lot of lefties, probably even slightly more than fundies. It's definitely contested territory.

To get away from Capitalism of course

If I were to make some kind of bullshit pseudo-educated guess: it's not necessarily that leftist are attracted to the sea, but working on ships/subs condition people to be more open to leftism. You have to consider that cooperation and interdisciplinary training are crucial for Navies, especially for submarines. When you have a bunch of people work together and cooperate, even if it's on a cynical but mutual rationale of not wanting to die, you get a good view of who you're working with and why you need to work together, and clearly that's enough to keep something like an entire ship fully operational, so something like "democratized workplaces" translates well with people in the Navy

aren't the airforce fundies mostly concentrated in the officer corps?

2 family members that are vets, both out and open nazis, regularly tell alt right joke/memes, talk about how they want to gas jews, regularly talk about the Autism Level of blacks compared to whites… i could go on

The Vietnam vets are the most leftist, they were part of the hippie generation and were drafted against their will to fight an enemy they didn't believe in. The other vets, however, are the complete opposite, literally Holla Forums's dream audience both culturally and psychologically.
