A lot of left, and even far-left groups in North America (even Revolutionary, and Maoist orgs) are calling for free tuition at colleges and Universities.

But are these schools not bourgeois and must be abolished? I think the uni/colleges are one of the current most power ISAs in reproducing the relations of production.

Do any of you support abolishing bourgeois universities and not just 'free tuition'?

Education, including higher education, should be available to anyone. Abolishing fees is one way of allowing people, especially those from working class backgrounds, to pursue higher education so we're naturally for it.

Still many universities are thoroughly bourgeois and liberal institutions but we can far less change that under capitalism.

not sure if Holla Forums or just retarded

its retards like you who spawn memes like 'commies want everyone to be equally dumb'

that is an extremely liberal position. it is like affirmative action really. short term gains, for the long term gain of consent to working within capitalism. + all this means is some working class people will be filling the higher positions in bourgeois society.

that's all not revolutionary, can they at least call themselves Liberals and not maoists?

this is like saying we need female and trans CEOs and working class people to become management. wtf leftypol

All y'all motherfuckers are liberal. Contemporary educational institutions are bourgeois as hell. They're a built on aristocratic circlejerk disciplines taught through training schemes designed for workers in the industrial revolution. And they've been turned into a class-testing system to keep poormies out of well-paying jobs unless they're willing to become debt slaves and not get to enjoy the pay.

Education could be far more efficient with the technology we have, but a combination of economic incentives, feudalist nostalgia, and spooky prestige and tradition keeps the dinosaur universities going in their current form.

yes education should be free but School Education(tm) is mostly complete dogshit meant to launch you as fast as possible in the capitalist machine

higher education is firstly prefigurative to capitalist society social hierarchy: deadlines, time structure, authority, competition, extreme individualism( individualism that far exceeds even the world outside of school) pseudo-meritocracy, reproduction of cultural + social capital. Where these ideologies grip anyone who goes through higher education. Secondly, it is a barrier to knowledge, striating the population into atomized positions of the bourgeois class.

Your posts show why we need free education.

universities are the few places where leftists ideas can be freely discussed among peers without repercussions, unlike the workplace.
abolishing universities is retarded, even if they are training people to be employees.

exactly here in canada the party literally called The Liberal Party has made tuition free for people with low income. They also recently privatized the energy sector. free tuition is as liberal as it gets.

truly marxist/revolutionary leftist ideas are surprisingly extremely rare in university. I had one socialist prof. and one neo-marxist. the rest were deeply liberal, and this was in a sociology program where we studied Marx exactly 1/3 of the time.

universities are deeply conservative, and it's a meme that they're some hotbed of relevant communist knowledge.

Whats the problem with free tutition?? Everyone should be able yo attend university if they work for it

that's why we support free tuition, jackass

The whole college system is inherently capitalist. They point posses any kind of secret knowledge that can only be discovered in such institutions.

Unless you're doing something hands on with special equipment there is no reason not to learn the information yourself free of charge on the internet. However you don't pay for knowledge you pay to get a trophy saying you spent X amount of money on a certain degree.

Under socialism with the use of the internet all the information would be publicly available and if you wanted to be a doctor or something you'd probably learn from other doctors at a hospital.

I don't really "support" anything to do with universities. I just support a socialism and whatever the universities will look like under them

Maybe in murrica and bongistan, but in continental Europe they were the places where people like Bourdieu, Deleuze and Foucault gave birth to their work.
Universities aren't bourgeois institutions per se. They were created during the medieval area, and their staff were primarily concerned with theology.
It changed with modernity/Renaissance, and can change again in a future hypothetical socialist era.
I don't subscribe to any socialist project where smart people don't have a place where they can discuss theoretical computer science or Kant and experiment with particle colliders.

Teachers give you guidance on how to get those informations and distinguish science from pseudoscience.
I didn't know research journals were a thing before I went to the university for example.

oh wow, now the state as to pay for the job training for the workers of capitalist organizations! socialized costs, privatized profits
