Ireland has had a huge growth of left-wing radicalism, with the capitalist economy failing hard during the Crash. Labour has completely shat the bed and became a purely opportunistic party, with shameless politicians like Joan Burton. Paul Murphy and the Anti-Austerity groups might act like eejits every now and then but the movement, initially based around opposition to water charges, has taken root in society. Also, the Church really is experiencing a decline, with Irish people following the general European trend of not really caring about religion all that much, the only thing keeping it relevant is its stranglehold on education.
Also, there is a bit of a resentment to moralistic conservatism, partly as a reaction to the recent actions of the eternal anglo.
Also, the southern countries have very active left-wing movements.
Ireland has a strong revolutionary spirit that mostly been placated by the Catholic Church for 1000 years. But now with all the whole pedophilia, slavery, and baby killing scandals the Church's grasp is starting to weaken.
