Part of the political-economy reason it came about was because the memory of WW1 soldiers starving to death in slums was still raw. A good bit of total war is good for bringing countries closer together.

They prefer the state capitalism which provided stability, housing, education, food and healthcare over the liberal capitalism which has pillaged their industry, plundered the state coffers and gifted them the ability to vote for another 4 years of job insecurity, poverty homelessness and debt.

In case of Poland it depends on a person, the main reasons you might hear are: a) the quality of life wasn't as nice as in the West at the time b) the political system of mild authoritarianism and inter-party cliques c) the fact they hated Jesus. Naturally for some it will be only a) and b) (those support centrist opposition), for others c) with a dash of b) (those support the right-wing ruling party).
The post-communist party has in fact returned to power shorty after the collapse of socialism, but they continued their proud traditions of shady business and opportunism, which is why they collapsed and went into near-irrelevancy, resulting in a political duopoly of pro-market liberal centrists screeching about bolshevism when somebody dares to talk about workers' rights or stopping deregulation and anti-EU vaguely statist christcuck conservatives screeching about bolshevism when somebody dares to talk about lessening the influence of the church or complaining about the retarded attempts at making Hungary here.
