That's medicare for retired senior citizens, people below the retirement age don't get it.

Also healthcare is private (the hospitals etc), but medicare is merely a public form of insurance, so it's not like universal healthcare where there is no insurance and the state owns the hospital ie the latter doesn't have the bureaucracy of the former and state hospitals aren't seeking profit.

The funny thing is that most countries with socialised healthcare spend way less of their budget on it, because they don't have to pay for a bunch of private corporations making a profit off them. And their healthcare is far better.
So much for capitalism being efficient.

I just looked up the budget for healthcare in Germany, it's 15 billion. USA has about 320 million people, Germany 82 million, 320 divided by 82 equals 3,9. When I then multiply 15 billion with 3,9 I get 54 billion.

Reminder that Germany has a pretty expensive system as well since rich people can exclude themselves from the public healthcare by insuring themselves privately. Yeah, that's right:

I know the quality of hospitals and the like are awesome in the USA but that doesn't mean for the broad mass of the people healthcare wouldn't be the exact same shit like in Europe.

I doubt that when I break my arm, my treatment would be this much better in the USA. Plus we have nice hospitals here too. It only plays a role for these special snowflake rich guys, as you said.

Americans pay more because they shoulder the responsibility of being guarantors of profit for pharmaceutical companies. There would be no new drugs and pharmaceutical companies would go on strike without America being there to guarantee profit for them, because other countries negotiate their prices down. This means that Americans wouldn't get new drugs either.

This is the actual argument as to why America shouldn't have public healthcare, I shit you not.
