Anyone else joining the military? I wanted to join the Natty Guard for the safety net, there's some good gibs, and I felt like the world was relatively peaceful. But now I feel like I'm gon die. Bootcamp starts next week.

Plebs.

Hey man I'm getting my tuition waived to any public school and eventually I'll be able to get public health insurance.

Oh, but you're probably European and have that stuff anyways.

Hope you do die :^ )

You too

Also me too a little bit

Lol kid… You'll be alright in the national guard. You get to play Army part time, it'll be fine.

This isn't going to escalate into a ground war. Assad isn't worth it to either side.

Besides, if you look at the numbers, you're more likely to die in a car accident in the states on any given day than you are to die on any given day during deployment. So it's actually SAFER to be deployed to a war zone.

Hoo-ah maggot.

Well I'm going into an infantry battalion, they were in Afghanistan during the surge, and haven't been deployed for a while. Like more than 5 years.

Marines make me pee my pants.

get fucked cunt

Why do u feel this way

Join the army for safety?
why.png.
the world has not is not and will never be peaceful in fact we're akin to balancing on the knife edge ever since the advent of nuclear weapons mere complacency and distraction has dulled reason and sense to the point that we are the proverbial frog boiling to death in a slowly heating pan of lukewarm water on a stove.

Because I'm a loser and I suck at life. Also compared to 10 or 20 years ago the army is safer now.

do yourself a favor and leave while you still can a friend of my family was killed 3 weeks into deployment to afghanistan shot in the head while providing cover. He was 100% commited to the marines and his mom died of cancer the same week.

Nah. I'll be mooching off my parents for the rest of my life if I don't do this.

And 10 months mandatory service!

WHEEE RICK!

this

Why so moralistic? It's ok to live with your parents if all you can get is a shit job.

The only response I can come up with is that I'm driven by testosterone and emotion. I guess the neo-liberal propaganda has gotten to me, and I eventually want my own family and career. I've failed at so much, and this will help me develop a sense of discipline that I badly need. And there is a lot of benefits, especially in my state.

Join the YPG. you get all the same benefits, but in a different way. you already know its the right thing to do, just think of all the leftist pu55y you'll get when the fighting's over.

If they need medics and they're around when my contract is up, I'll definitely try to get out there. But it's expensive.

you live with your parents right? you can't have too many expenses. just get a minwage job for 3 weeks and you'll be set.

Matrix.itasoftware and google flights/momondo can get you a cheap ticket. depending on what coast your on, the cheapest flight will probably look like USA>Beruit>Iraq.

Just… why? Couldn't you study for the ASVAB and get a nice pencil pushing position?

Glad that I did my year of mandatory service 10 years ago, with rifleman, LMG and medic education in mechanized infantry squadron. If I ever get back in shape I'll join the home guard. Nice to have training and access to weapons. Also, getting into practical shooting and hunting will be a nice hobby once I get a job with better income. Guess I'm kind of a larper…

Well I don't wanna desert.

I'm not 11B but it's an infantry battalion. I'm going in as a combat medic AKA "health care specialist". I actually did really well on the ASVAB, but I wanted that position because I wanna pursue the health care field(I'll get an EMT cert out of BCT.) Also the really cool jobs are hard to come by in the Guard in a small state.

No.
