The purpose of all those social media companies is to make money, they will tolerate whatever is profitable and ban whatever scares off advertisers. Expect censorship to become even more arbitrary.

Censorship is going to be framed as an effort to curb 'harassment', 'trolling' or 'extremism'. Also,it doesn't necessarily mean banning people: you can dramatically reduce the reach of stuff through some light tweaks to the algorithm. and normies are just going to be like 'duh it's a private platform'.

/r/anarchism went downhill ever since the tankies and sharpies took charge. At a time when the potential for new lefties is at an all time high, the fact that both /r/socialism and /r/anarchism ban not only curious new people but spend an overwhelming amount of time purging their own ranks.

/r/anarchismonline may be a lot smaller, but at least the people there actually appear to be activists in real life .

It's wonderful that r/anarchism will likely get banned. I don't know why anyone here would sympathize with them and other edgy leftist subreddits that insist on defending their autism.

It's not about whether r/anarchism should get banned. It's about this place being where reddit has decided to draw the line. They had to get wide pressure to ban literal pedophilia subreddits. There remain subreddits that exist for the sole purpose of posting pictures of dead non-whites. But for some reason, at no external prompting, "bash the fash" is where reddit admins have decided free speech ends.

Reddit admins banned plenty of subs before, they're not singling out /r/anarchism in any way.

I would love to see edgy leftists getting banned by the admins.

the problem is that imageboards are still too centralized, making the site owner and board owners single points of failure.
nntpchan tries to distribute those roles amongst several nodes but all nodes right now are run by feds so you might aswell go on 4chan/pol/.
retroshare has a pretty good admin system by now but the software is written by feds and is so full of vulnerabilities on the code level and protocol level there is no way to fix it.

I've found right wing Christians to be pretty damn reasonable compared to Holla Forumstards and edgy libertarian "conservatives". What I find most harmful is the endless liberal demonization of them as "retarded" when the reality is many of them I've spoken to are much more welcoming of debate than the other groups and are often open to concepts like labor exploitation whether or not they fully get on board.

We ought to take it to the /leftytrash/ thread. One of them will probably show up there eventually. We could get them to make a video about the history of the leftist Reddit drama too. If Reddit is going to start taking these measures we should put something out to counter it, and videos are a great way to do that. If it gets enough traction it could force big YouTubers to respond.

Maybe it's just because I'm a filthy socdem but generally I've found "traditional" conservatives (the ones who generally look down on the consumerist decadence of the 80s) to be among the most reasonable people i've ever spoken to politically.

They cling to low taxes like I cling to nationalization, but somehow there's a synthesis where we recognize the two are "compatible.", Peter Hitchens is a good example of that kind of thinking. (Or perhaps it's just that they care more about "social" issues where I care about "economic" issues, so with a wink and a nudge they can abolish divorce so long as they keep quiet about the tax rise to fund the national monorail service, where a proper marxist or reactionary would recognize the economic/social distinction is illusory.)

Maybe the horseshoe theory thing that winded up with communism in the centre, socdems on the "left" and christian democrats or whatever on the "right" was accurate after all.
