Fuck professional sports

Fuck professional sports.

The NFL is set to vote to send the Raiders to my city of Las Vegas and Porky is fleecing the public for $750 million to do it. We have serious issues in this city, like overcrowded schools, and this is what the city decides to allocate funds towards. A billion dollar stadium for porky. We didn't even get a vote on this.

Bread and circuses is the oldest trick in the book, user. Besides, without all these absurdly overpaid celebrities who just happen to have some random talent, how would you convince the proles that they too (or at least their children) might discover that they happen to have such a talent which would elevate them to great wealth?

Did you fellow citizens saw the sportball match last night?
Local team totally beefeated rival team

It pisses me off that people fall for this shit. I've heard people defend this by saying it will create jobs. Working as a vendor or clean up crew is not a job that pays a living wage. Whatever construction work that would come out of building this stadium could also have come from building schools, something that actually contributes to the community.

"Bread and circuses" is a classist meme that Juvenal invented to place the blame for Rome's troubles in the urban poor instead of the decadent aristocracy that owned and operated everything.

RDW a few months ago was talking about the sports complex that Miami is on the hook for iirc. Basically the city gets to pay for everything and the corporation that owns it gets to keep all the money because they'll pay no tax on it until when or if it starts to turn a profit. All told with interest and everything the stupid thing is supposed to cost tens of billions of dollars.

That's just what I remember though, I'm sure I'm wrong on some things. I want to say he talked about it in his last September or November update.

I know this feel, I'm working for the side that I've supported all my life for less than the minimum wage and I would be lucky to go to more than a single match per season. Most of the local working class supporters can barely afford to go if they haven't been season ticket holders for years. Meanwhile the club has revenue in the hundreds of millions and the players are all millionaires.

When you root for a team you are literally just rooting for a fucking jersey lol. There's nothing else to it.

Conventional sports have always bored me. But I find it funny that throwing a ball around like a fag is talent. It's not talent people are just stupid and easily amused is all it is. Maybe I just don't understand 'cause the whole shebang has never struck me as interesting.

Have played any sport at a high level?
Shit requires skill.

Yeah seriously, our sports are dumb too but at least Manchester United can't just decide to move to London because it makes a better offer. Then again the fact that half the players are from abroad kind of makes a joke out of any idea of the teams being rooted locally.

So does competitive WoW, that doesn't mean you need to respect it

Like I said I dont do conventional sports so I never played hand egg or other dumb crap at high level. So I may be wrong but I never see any sort of mental preparedness in football or basketball or any other stupid 'murica sports.

I like sports when they're useful like martial arts or require intelligence like I don't know. But I'm sure sports exist somewhere out their that require thinking.

...

Wait, people live in las vegas? I thought it was pretty much only casinos and rich people?

Privatized profits, public expenses. You think it's bad now? Wait til they start kicking people out of their homes for it. I live near Arlington, TX where they actually claimed imminent domain on people's houses to build the new Cowboy stadium and gave them pennies on the actual market value. You had fucking 90 year old fixed income people being dragged out of their fucking house for a godamned football stadium.

Would you enjoy memory sports, then?

It disgust me how sports that can be harmless fun to play with friends can become sensless affiliation and worship, like it doesn't even make sense when you think about it a lot of people stick to a team because it's their 2team of the city" and even ignoring all the spooks involved most of the time neither the players, trainer nor the guy who owns the team are from the city it's so fucking devoid of any meaning it makes me sick

Spreading out from around the Strip behind the lights and fountains is a dreary pessimistic semi-urban sprawl that provides the hotels and casinos with workers

sports are gay

I like watching the NFL tbh

I follow my football/soccer team every week. Its great fun and family tradition!

Yeah. Why the hell not? Now throw in some kind of physical component too and that's what I'd call a sport.

I like tennis.

BREHS

thats not venus williams you racist cracker who thinks all black people look the same

sorry fam! my bad.
Is this right?

this is so ridiculous. how can you yanks have any sort of passion for a team that is 3 years old and is shamelessly created solely with the purpose to win money?

It really is a shitty place to live, we got hit harder than most parts of the US in 08 and have barely recovered, but for whatever reason people keep moving here. We're supposed to be one of that fastest growing metropolitan areas in the country, at least that's what people have been saying for years.

I'm a fan of European professional football and it's not as though it is any less porkified and commercial where owners get to do whatever they want.

Sports will never realize their potential until capitalism falls.

It doesn't really matter when all the players are from other places anyway. I think there is only one local guy (Jermaine Kearse) on our handegg team, and there are no locals on the baseball team. The minor leagues often feature local talent, but once you get to the top level everyone is too valuable to stay in one place.

It seems like a lot of the people who have been moving to Vegas are retirees who are looking for someplace warm and cheap. It's the same reason that Newenglanders retire in Florida.

really because i thought it was pretty clear that it was a description of how the ruling class distracts the impoverished

Yes, really.

Could be worse
Could be what they're doing in Detroit
