So basically hypothesizing "models" of socialism will always be idealistic. But why exactly? I am guessing something like this: unless you actively deal with material reality and work towards systematically abolishing the excesses that make capitalism, you will always fail to entertain them as conflicting with your "model" and run into material realities that conflict with this ideal. Is that accurate?
