Did you attend college? What college do/did you attend and were there any teachers or organizations there that helped affirm your belief in socialism? Sorry if this isn't allowed I'm new to this board (I've only been here a few days), I found it through a youtube video.

Also sorry I don't know what "associates" degrees or "high school" etc. are called in other countries, I don't mean to be insensitive I just don't know what the fuck they're called off the top of my head you know? lol

I went to college for a bit for computer science, but dropped out.

They didn't teach anything remotely leftist in college to my recollection.

What youtube video did you find us from?

Welcome to our community friend!

I like you already pal, welcome

I dropped out of college once, but I went back and I'm just about to graduate with my bachelors.

All of my professors are libs. One even pulled out the "Marx denounced communism" meme in a criticism and theory course.

What college was that? Do you feel like the school itself failed you or was it just not your thing? I hope you don't have too much debt. I've got a friend that went to a cooking school of all things and still racked up $20,000 in debt even though he dropped out like a quarter into his first year

Thank you!

Marx denounced communism? Huh!?

Marx didn't denounce shit. It's porky propaganda.

How even though, did they have quotes of his that could be twisted to suggest as much? You can't just make sensational claims like that without at least some kind of citation, ya know? Even if that citation is bull poop.

...

You don't have much experience with capitalist propaganda, do you?

I demand a citation to prove that you bolsheviks arent coming for my precious toothbrush

I 'm doing a-levels right now, I want to go to uni for Psychology or film studies as well.

Doesn't "Bachelor's degree or higher" work? I'm sorry! I'm not that familiar with college lingo.

Not really I admit. I feel like a lot of people don't understand how important citations are, even (or maybe especially!) when talking to people you're on the same page with and you'd otherwise trust completely. It's pretty audacious for an enemy in particular (whatever that might mean) to try and convince someone they disagree with of anything without a shred of evidence to back it up though.

I believe some commies went to visit him and said "hi, we're Marxists" and he replied "if you're Marxists then I'm not"

Marx once said "If that is Marxism, then I'm not a Marxist".

He was talking about the dogmatic sectarianism of a self-proclaimed "Marxist" party in France, but liberal professors like to treat it like it was "Marxism was a mistake" - Karl Marx

It's like how people take the "opiate of the masses" quote wildly out of context (Marx had a much more nuanced view of religion) or anything surrounding the "planks of communism".

Yeah, Marx was pretty accepting of religion as a source of pain relief for the worker.

Got my bachelors in English Writing and my masters in secondary education. I teach during the year and freelance copywrite during the summer. I picked up my beliefs after seeing how the state treated my sister with a disability while I was in high school

Can't afford it, and even if I managed to get myself a student debt, I'd either never get the money to pay it off or live like shit while I pay it off.

Being from a manual laboring family sucks.

So are you an anarchist or libertarian of some sort? I'm interested in knowing more about what you went through.

Who knows, maybe you dodged a bullet, college doesn't work out for everybody unfortunately.

I'm Australian. We call them universities here, a college is a dorm. It helps that we have a system where the government pays for our tertiary education and we pay it back compulsory through our taxable income afterwards.
My university took me from center left to outright liberal. It was my honours year where I was able to do a lot of reading on society without prescribed reading and echo room tutorials where I realised how retarded the previous three years were. I think a lot of my professors were marxist or at least sympathisers - still social liberals - but they kept it to a minimum because the problems surrounding funding cuts and the like.
