YYYY-MM-DD is the best system anyway. Or possibly the Japanese/Chinese system where they use the characters for year/month/day as delimiters so it is completely unambiguous: 2017年03月08日.

It's not you retard. If someone asks for the date the thing the most likely want to know is the day of the month. They already know what year it is.

I'm not suggesting you use that format in day-to-day conversation. If someone asks for the date, just tell them it's the 8th of March, or even just the 8th. What kind of autist would think otherwise?

If you're even including the year in the date, it's assumed that you want to refer back to that date more than a year later. In that case, the year is the most important bit of information. Also it makes alphabetical sorting equivalent to temporal sorting, which is nice.

Also it's consistent with the rest of human language. In all other instances we give numbers in big-endian format. You don't say "that town is 307m and 22km away". Why would we have an exception just for dates?
