The Romans of every era of that ancient civilization complained that the Romans of their day had abandoned the old Roman values and traditions. While historians can find you a whole mound of old Roman texts from almost every era of Rome claiming that Rome had abandoned its ancient virtues, they can't find any evidence for a period where the Romans thought said virtues were actually being followed.

I bring that up because I can guarantee you that whatever era it is you're fetishizing had old men claiming that said era was frivolous and had abandoned its core values.

Porky's governing philosophy prior to 1980 would be considered "socialist" by the people in power today.

When my grandfather was growing up workers had the USSR as an alternative model to look to. Even my parents had socialist Albania when they were growing up in the 80s. Now there is no alternative model anywhere and that suits the bourgeoisie just fine. There are a lot of angry people with microphones and people who cut their hair weird but nothing that can't be handled, even the 19th century labor movements that never went beyond beyond reform (outside Paris) were far more intimidating.
