So is this series just fully dead now? How the fuck does that make sense? Like yeah, Infinite was shit and everyone hates it now, but when it came out everyone loved it and it sold like fucking hotcakes

I don't get it, why kill the franchise?

it sold very poorly, actually. It needed to sell twice as much in order to make back its investment.

It was always meant to be a stepping stone into Hollywood and in that regard it failed hard. There was never any intention of it living any longer than Levine's chances to to finally sit in the director chair.

I'm usually the last fucker to say shill but come on now.
It's the same fucking game discuss that shit there.

Did you have to make another thread?

Bioshock was shit too.

It was always shit. And check the fucking catalog:

You are aware the Irrational disbanded after Infinite, right?

Yeah, I wonder why that was. sounds of palm rubbing in the distance.

Fuckoff cuckchan

It sold 11 million copies, with about 6 million of those within the early window of time where there wouldn't be large sales.

Do you have any reason to believe that it needed twice those numbers to recoup the investment? That declaration makes no sense.

I am no expert here but couldn't they simply lie about the numbers?

Also a good 3/4 or so of that was probably heavily discounted on Steam. Anyone who actually thinks this made money on par with FF7 is delusional.

Why not just come out and admit you're a colossal newfag?

Attached: doubt.jpeg (600x909, 29.79K)

How the fuck doesn't it make sense?

First Bioshock was a spiritual sucessor to System Shock 2 but after 3 games, there's hardly anything they can ape from back then to warrant a new game, there's nothing to "be inspired by" to make another game.
You're not talking just about a whole new setting and story, you're talking whole new gameplay to justify itself on the player's wallet and that's not gonna happen in AAA.

Furthermore, the first 2 Bioshocks were heavily political in their story. The second one was horribly retarded since it made a piss poor effort at trying to make collectivism seem like a good idea even on paper while the first one at least got capitalism right.
How the heck are you going to make a game this heavily charged with political messages in America with it's current state, when it comes to politics? And why would you make a sequel to Bioshock without it to begin with, if you think that's an option?

Finnaly, Bioshock Infinite wasn't supposed to be an actual game, it was a platform for political discourse and personal dissertation. While the first 2 games used politics to establish characters and the world, Infinite was all about the politics instead, the gameplay merely the vehicle that carried you over to the next exposition piece.
It's entire point was for Levine to tell his Disney Princess story mixed in a racism uprising with some wacky Sci-Fi because he likes that kinda stuff, I guess.

But it failed horribly since his wacky Sci-Fi was more wacky than Sci or Sci at all, his racism uprising just made everyone look either retarded or evil, depending on what side you look at it (somehow it was even worse than Bioshock 2) and his Disney Princess was porn fodder at best, Elizabeth was a terrible waifu, even if she had the perfect qualities for the role.

Wanna know what would happen if they ever released Bioshock Infinite 2? The latest Wolfenstein, that's what.

original was casual trash.
bioshock was "more mature" casual trash.
bioshock infinite was shallow casual trash that was advertised as deep casual trash.

only people with shit taste liked these games.

It's sad how on point this is.

Bioshock was never good.
It is not "hated now".
It was always hated by thinking human beings.
Only retarded cattle lead by journos/child rapists believed in the marketing and bought it.
It was so shit, that after the liars (a.k.a, marketeers) stopped promoting it, everyone stopped talking about it.
The whole franchise was just a wet dream from a communist (and thus, talentless hack) "dev" that wanted to become an icon, and failed (as all leftists do), taking the franchise along with him.
Those two anons nailed it:

I actually thought it'd sell well too. There's always this unstoppable casual hype for new games regardless of quality.

It came out righter after DmC flopped on its ass so if anything I was hoping it would've failed harder.

I liked bioshock 2
Mostly for the big sisters though, umf, they hot.

Still here? OK, now I tell you why the Franchise was killed: Because it ceased to by System Shock since Bioshock 1 and Ken Levine turned out to be huge hack and he didn't want to play ball with 2K anymore. Bioshock Infinite was huge joke of a garden variety FPS and had retarded writing. There you have it. This is why the Franchise was killed off.

2 was the only even halfway decent game and even it was held back by the casualisation of the fps-rpg concept.

Bioshock 1 and 2 are nice to play exactly because they're not System Shock

And OP shows his true colors

I'm sorry man the combat sucks cock, the story and the rpg elements really can't hold the whole package together when everything is basically held with duct tape

I want you to be a big boy not a baby bitch and use your words, make your own arguments, not posting meme images. This isn't reddit.

...

It's very linear, has loads of cut content, the game over system straight up doesn't work, being able to carry only two weapons and not knowing what weapons the enemies will have makes it pointless to upgrade them, the powers are basically worthless and the story is completely nonsensical.

Which SS are you even talking about? The first didn't have RPG elements and both games had perfectly fine combat. And don't complain about muh no mouse look because if you weren't such a newfag, you'd know that the enhanced edition has it.

Could I also mention that the game's difficulty is a joke? Turned it up to the highest levels possible on my only playthrough of the title (For both the main story and the DLC), and it's one of those games where it thinks that numbers make things better.

there we go, but there's more to it than that. The game over system is a burden on the upgrade system, is at odds with the level design due to the behavior of enemies and their hitscan weapons, it is a self-undermining game that doesn't even know what kind of game it wants to be and there was no clear goal or theory attempted to be achieved or explored in the design of the game. It exists as as a window into levine's failure at directing and having full control over a project.

yes, fucking do more of this and less recycling content

the combat in the system shock games is pretty shit and pathetically easy.

I'll be honest I didn't play the first.
Second one's combat is shit though and it really bothered me how much fucking backtracking and nonsensical "puzzles" there were

See you'd be right, but then you get to the ghost boss on higher difficulties and it's just straight up impossible to beat

How so?
Yeah no shit, so is Bioshock's.

All this fucking cockstroking for system shock.

nigga you can leave whenever you want
If people discussing a game makes you this mad then you probably should just fucking drop the whole internet thing

pitiful enemy behavior with ai designed for a stealth game but not for a first person shooter with hitscan weapons, terrible weapon balance so you pretty much just need 3 or 4 weapons by the end game, 4 if you're feeling like expending inventory space. Speaking of inventory space, you'll probably want to be speccing into strength to get as much as possible because it's the most valuable thing in the game so your roleplaying options are pretty limited. Even late game enemies like the rumbler die in like 2 or 3 hits. By the time the shitty shodan """"""""""""""reveal""""""""""" happens you'll be tripping over ammo for your pistol and you'll be using the best melee weapon in the game at that point. Combat in the game sucks, the weapons feel like shit.

The first game is a little better for the feel of weapons, but the abundance of hitscan enemies doesn't make for interesting combat beyond set sparc to kill and peek around corners.

you're shit tbh

You didn't play the game and Biococks melee feedback is even worse floaty garbage.

part of why the second game is the only one worth playing

Did he died?

them having a slight stagger animation for feedback doesn't mean the combat is good or has decent feedback

Bioshock actually has reactive animation depending on where the enemy is hit and also the wrench feels like it has actual weight

(heil'd)
the feedback of the wrench is OK, the blood splash is decent but the ragdolls are just weird due to the fact they're animated at half your framerate. Weird decision when we had 1:1 physics alignment with framerate back on the ps2. Might just be due to the fact that ue2.5 is a piece of shit.

Why do people still use Unreal is it's a piece of shit?

It's subsidized by ricebarons.

This I can actually agree on, and is why I prefer the first over the second, though the first still had hitscans.
I installed some balance mods on my last playthrough about 2 years ago or so. They fix most of the problems you've listed though I can't remember the names.

You mean now or then?
Then because there wasn't any choice. Today because it's a different version and is not as shit

unreal 3.5 and unreal 4 are good engines. You'll have to ask this retarded looking potato why he used ue2.5. If I had to guess it was probably because they had the license already.

secmod, but you can only do so much for the dark engine which was never meant to handle a game like ss2.

there was plenty of choice back when bioshock 1 was in development. I think irrational did it because they already had license with the swat 4 deal. they were doing a zombie game that looked pretty good too. youtube.com/watch?v=SgXZq8LPt7g

Attached: jewish potato head.jpg (600x300, 25.17K)

It's been dead for years. Irrational Games closed down over a year ago.
Anyway, the System Shock games are better than all the BioShock games. And if you want something more recent, NuPrey is also better than them.
Wow, it's almost like normalfags buy games that they've convinced each other are cool in order to be part of a social experience, instead of having taste in, or enjoyment of, video games.
Levine drastically mismanaged Infinite's development. It also should never have been a "franchise" to begin with.
For what it's worth, I think the original BioShock was decent.

Attached: dustbirb.webm (640x360, 2.53M)

nu prey seems pretty mediocre and it only reaffirmed my views that the genre is just too open and constantly falls to the same failures of design over and over again for it to ever be good and released in a remotely timely fashion.

Didn't even get hurt. Missed the rocks by less than an inch, apparently.

If you like games in the style of Looking Glass, it's definitely worth your time. I think Holla Forums has generally been unfair to it. It's far better than Dishonored.

You should leave. We have already answered your question.

The excitement of looking glass style games faded for me after having played their catalog and seeing a few games inspired by them. Had hope for Arkane after dark messiah which could have been a lot better given time, but they flubbed like 3 dishonored games, nu prey seems awfully middling. It might have some of those moments that make you feel it's pretty clever, but I think I'd be ultimately unimpressed. I've looked into it plenty.

Would have much rather have had Prey 2, seems like it would have been far more refreshing for the genre. Killzone Mercenary is probably the closest we'll get to it.

I find the first one pretty forgettable gameplay wise. The story is OK, but contains many holes.

Attached: 1416328301868.png (472x472, 378.38K)

The 'Shock series in general is kind of mediocre. Play Deus Ex, and Thief.

thief is far better game play wise. not even apples to oranges, it's just executed better in every way. If more games had that analog quality to them, more games would be better.

I can understand that type of game losing its novelty. But I don't play them for the novelty. I simply play them because they're my favorite type of game. I'm curious what exactly you expected from NuPrey, that it failed to deliver?

I have. They're great. But this thread is about BioShock, so I thought that System Shock was a more appropriate comparison.

Thief does one thing very well. Deus Ex does a ton of things, and as a result some of it ends up better and some ends up worse. I can appreciate them both. I think I like Thief a little more, but I respect the ambition of Deus Ex.

I thought the Catholic Church didn't consider wet dreams to be a sin because they were involuntary?

This is correct. You have guessed the denomination wrong though. It is more in the line of getting some counseling from the church due to a related problem (too many lewds).

I don't play games for the novelty, I do it for the quality of the execution and enjoying the challenges laid out for me based on my understanding of the design and the mechanics. Getting to Hell in cave story is one thing, but the feeling you get after you get your first damage free run through the first spike area to the point where you can go back to the game after years and achieve damageless runs effortlessly is where the satisfaction in engaging in a games design and mechanics comes from. NuPrey fell into the same traps as other games in the genre. Ineffective enemies, enemies that are all show and not very interesting to fight, limited build options once you really get the game.

I think Iji, while in a different genre entirely, did a lot of the same things like how you are forced to build your character, much better than any other looking glass style game.

also as far as thief go, the analog nature of everything in the game is key to why it is as good as it is.

Okay you fucks are going to have to elaborate on this. Are you talking about the setting or the fact it doesn't have a gps like map in thief where the other stealth games do?

Attached: mii confused.png (600x600, 350.43K)

Consider actually playing Prey. Enemies fuck you up if you don't know what you're doing. Though it sounds like you already watched a let's-play, so maybe you already know the right strategies.
It's not an RPG. That said, you absolutely can make your character wrong, which is usually a sign that a game's character progression system has enough depth to work with.
Never heard of it before you mentioned it. Looks like a side-scrolling Metroidvania. I'll consider playing it.

We have IDs here.
I think he means how the light gem, and detection in general, isn't binary, like it would be in most modern "stealth" games. Which is absolutely correct, and the right way to design stealth games.

I know that, when I posted that I thought one of those post was by you, probably because he was talking to you. Anyway is there any other stealth game where sound played an important role like thief had? I don't mean not running up to guards or throwing rocks that they "hear" something, you can program that in without a sound system.

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory had a sound meter, and pretty good audio design. But as far as I know, Thief has yet to be surpassed. It actually had a sound engine, which almost no games do, then or now.

everything about thief from the AI, to the sound propagation, to the player movement, to even the way you can lean around corners, the way you climb, the distance you throw, works by being influenced by everything else. The way things work is more like a scale rather than an off-on state.

I've yet to play it, and didn't mean to imply I might have. I've just looked into it to see what the deal is. I wasn't very impressed.

Not really, because there aren't that many first-person stealth games to begin with. Sound only plays a more important role in first-person games where your field of view is limited but being aware of your surroundings is important, as opposed to third-person games where you have the advantage of the camera showing you things your player character should not even be able to see. Sound is very important part in first-person games like Devil Daggers, Quake 3, and Rainbow Six: Siege.

Maybe they shouldn't have wasted money remaking the game upteen times then.

Its because Bioshock infinite was the start of studios spending more on marketing then development.
Bioshock Infinite was rumored to have a 300 MILLION marketing budget.

did you just start playing games that year? It was a running theme since the 6th generation.

Immsims? are my favorite genre but it's damn hard to execute those things/and or maintain a consistent quality throughout the game.

Which isn't really important in the first place if the game has an all seeing map even more so if it has a mini map, making the difference of field of view negligible since all you gotta do is look at the map. I mean hell if you really get down to it a mini map is just the see through walls casual bullshit but without the z axis.

what happened to the episodes? did all those plans get swept under the rug?

FF7 says hi.

What bioshock episodes.

You got them both. You played as Elizabeth in Rapture and you died at the end for absolutely no reason whatsoever and which does nothing to advance or hinder the plot, just like Booker.

Oh, yeah, and because of the cliffhanger at the end of the main game, it's implied that Booker (Still alive for some reason, but now back at his apartment) will only find a headless baby's body when he checks to see if Elizabeth is still in the crib. Seriously! If you accept all of the "time travel alternate realities wibbly-wobbly-woo" at face value, the end of BaS implies that all of the versions of Elizabeth are dead and that there is still one version of Booker still alive (The one who wins the struggle with Comstock, but suffers from Elizabeth getting killed instead). And, since Protagonist Booker has nowhere else to go since all other versions of him are dead, that is the only reality that he could possibly go to. Also, with Booker-stock escaping to Rapture, that also means that there's a version of Columbia still out there, except without Comstock as the leader of the city. What this ends up meaning is that BaS ends with one world retconning Bioshock 2 and making canon the good ending to the first Bioshock, another world that has both of the original Bioshock games still canon and all their endings (The world Booker now inhabits), and a third world were Columbia still exists except but with no idea as to who is in charge. If anything, all it does is makes everything canon, meanwhile also making everything non-canon and leaving open a couple of serious issues.

The End

It died because Levine decided to disband the team and do simpler shit. How do you not know this?

Wrong.

Objectively incorrect. The second one showed retards in an already-dystopian Rapture being (((tricked))) into communism by a (((social worker))) and how it created a shithole because communism does not work. It's like you didn't pay attention at all.

How do you even make a three entry series between two devs with none worth playing?

Attached: darrr.jpg (76x94, 3.75K)

tried going back to reddit?

He's right though.
BioShock 1 was shit.
Back then, the general consensus was that BioShock was 'good but not a replacement for SS2'

Yet years later, barely worthwhile threads about it. That's because it's a forgettable POS with mediocre gameplay and a mediocre story with a half-baked morality system and shyamaladingdong style tweeeeeeeest.
TBH, if it were not for the underwater setting, it won't even be popular at all.

I mean for every AAA title you faggot. Back then it was rare to see a t.v ad for a video game.
Now I see 3 pharma adds, one fat bitch talking about her B.E.D(binge eating disorder), Sarah Machlaklin badgering me with abused dogs she probably abused herself, and finally 1-2 videogame ads.
Of course on children stations that jumps to 2-4 vidya ads.

He's not right
^not an argument.

Bioshock was above average fps, in a good setting with some neat mechanics with the magic system.
The twist was pretty well done having one doesn't make it necessarily bad but I'll chalk that up to you being 16.

No, it really wasn't. If you watched the TV stations the video game playing demographics did, you saw plenty of ads. Shit I remember seeing an ad for Doom 3 on NBC at like 11PM when that game was relevant.

They all bought Bioshock.
There are cattle among us.

Attached: heh 02.gif (355x201, 2.99M)

It had some of the worst mouse acceleration and hit detection of any big name game I've ever played.

Have you ever considered that a series should be an open and shut case after telling its story? Did you actually want Bioshock to be another franchise that gets low effort rehash or spin off every 1 or 2 years until every possible penny has been milked out of the IP?

Attached: You must be nue here.jpg (849x596, 337.6K)

I wanted to see how embarrassing the hamfisted political analogies and recycled settings would get, yes.

this tbh let things die and never bring them back

That's not equivelent, doom by then had massive fanbase to justify buying t.v time, especially since it was published by activision who loved marketing.

Seems fine now, I think you just bringing up hard to disprove or prove terms to act like you have something substantial.

I liked the setting, I like cities underwater, its something I aim for a lot when I make a fort in DF.
I don't care about the AYYYY Rand politics, I like genetic experimentation gone wrong, combine with a secret city under the ocean.

I wanted to see a game that happened before everything went to shit.
But nope, Levine wanted to make a daughterfu and then shit the bed with Infinite.

It's not like Infinite wasn't already a low-effort rehash.

I should give Bioshock 2 a try because I heard Levine wasn't involved but Bioshock 1 was dog shit.

Ha ha no.
the only good thing about it
It literally tells you to use lighting magic on enemies standing on water.
No, it wasn't.

Ha ha, what a faggot you are.

The first game was mediocre. It had a nice story that all wrapped up well. Worth a rent at the most. Bioshock 2 had no reason to exist, nor did Bioshock Infinite.

...

The second one didn't even need to happen, and that wasn't even that bad. Story-wise, it was over entirely after the first game. We know how the city started, we know the Protagonist's story, we know what happened to the city, and we reach a conclusion for both the city and the protagonist that need no further explanation. Unless you take the bad ending and want to make some "Splicers invade the surface" game, but that would just be Bioshock without being underwater or any of that business.

Infinite is just weird. I never looked into this so I could be wrong, but it feels just like they planned out a game and somewhere in the conceptual process somebody said "this is a lot like Bioshock, why don't we just slap that label onto it and it'll sell way more?" and that's where we are. There's really no connection between the two beyond 'a city in a weird place founded on a fringe political ideal' and 'people have magic powers as a commodity'. It's different in tone, theme, setting, story, etc. What's the point?

Attached: shrug.png (500x242, 55.67K)

I have a hard time believing Skyoshock was ever meant to be anything other than another Bioshock game.

The moment the game forced me to get baptized into someone i turned off the game in disgust and never played it. If you consider yourself christian, you wouldn't play this heresy further. Obviously the game has some subtext to it too. In a way this game is similar to Far Cry 5.

Attached: bioshock infinite.jpeg (1200x800, 99.42K)

How has no one posted this yet?

I seem to remember the guy who made that turned into a massive SJW cuck.

What makes you say that? Beyond the gameplay, which can easily have been changed early in the development phase, it's not exactly a ground-breaking formula: shooting dudes and you unlock special powers.

Because a cancelled Vita port of Bioshock was being teased at the same time and there was no way they weren't going to try and cash in on that by saying "THAT'S NOT THE ONLY NEW BIOSHOCK RELEASE TEEHEE". The whole point of Bioshock to begin with was to make another System Shock out of the hands of the insurance company red tape clusterfuck of a legal mess. There was never any intention on making something legitimately new in the first place.

Well shit, I already had zero respect for the devs but there goes any hope of getting some. At least if it had originally been something else there could have been some excuse for it being such a departure from everything, but it seems that was just complete laziness.

The push for marxism and deformed kike baptism was being done from much sooner than when we noticed.

If I remember correctly.
It did OK in sales the development time was longer and more costly because Elisabeth was supposed to be this new and innovative AI and there was allot of hick ups with level design and other fun things.
Which again did break them in the budget so the reason why Bioshock was kill for now was due to poor management but who knows where the future takes us. Since Irrational Games is not liquidated but just rebranded as ghost story games.

Personally I thought Prey was alright, maybe not astonishing but fun for a play through.
My main complaint is the fucking trash sound design. Whatever they used for managing sound in that game must have been cobbled together by some fucking ape, and if that wasn't such absolute shit I might have forgiven them for the greasy wax npc models.

How bad is it?

I thought Prey did a lot of things right, but when you make an immsim type game, your weakest elements can really expose you. The first half was a pretty intense SS2/HL style experience, but the world/characters are forgettable as fuck, and the final act is poorly structured with backtracking/loadscreens/repetitive enemies.

Holy fuck, that even made me clench my asshole, no Bruce Jenner fam.

How was Bioshock cinematic? There werent any cutscenes aside from the beginning and the end. Also I remember only psedo intellectuals praising the mind control ending

Good job, retard.

Bioshock 2 is unironically the best entry in the series though, apart from the sloppy antagonist.

NuPREY or Prey, user?

the games budget was over 300 million.

And it managed to not show at all.

3 games were more than enough.

Levine spent it all on hookers, blow and advertisement
