I've been playing around with the different settings so far. I wish the game would tell you thinks like damage, stamina consumption, and crit rating, but you have to triangulate it based on styles etc. with vague descriptions

You might be overthinking it, at least as far as mania entries go. Make sure your common moves are mostly B+ so your guy does not run out of steam too soon and you are good. Crits are picky. Strikes are more or less the only type for which building a crit-fishing gimmick works intuitively.

You kinda have to figure that out by digging around for shit about the game here and around. What I've gather from it is that moves do damage to specific parts of the body (example an arm breaker doing arm damage, a low dropkick doing leg damage, etc.) and this stacks to an invisible HP meter that affects whether the wrestler is currently in one of three stages. These stages are simple: small, medium, and large damage. As time goes on in the match, it's inevitable that both wrestlers will eventually hit the medium and large stages, and do moves that you specified they would do to the opponent when their opponent hits that stage. Example, you want your wrestler to do a powerbomb when the opponent hits large damage, but not on small damage, so you set the percentage for a powerbomb in the "SML" field to 0% and increase the percentage for the powerbomb move in the "LRG" field to something like 10-15%. There's also another VERY important hp meter that's different than the one just discussed. It's called spirit, and it affects how easily your wrestler gives up in submission holds, and I THINK how fast a wrestler can make a comeback later in the match after taking a beating. There's a mechanic called Ukemi in the cpu logic that dictates how often a wrestler will purposefully lose a grab because wrestling is faked lol. So, if you have about 20% Ukemi, that means that 20% of the time that wrestler will purposefully fail a grapple. Though this sounds stupid, it actually serves a purpose. Every time a wrestler loses a grapple like that, it builds up the wrestler's spirit meter, so that when the chips are down in the later game, the wrestler can get a big boost from their spirit affecting their performance and make a large comeback, and probably win the match in the process. So basically, there's two healthbars to pay attention to when thinking about dealing damage, and that's the wrestler's actual health and the wrestler's spirit. Normal moves obviously bring down the health bar and the spirit bar a tad bit, while rough, heel-type and entertainment moves bring down the spirit bar more than health. The face slaps in this game don't do much normal damage compared to a punch, but they do a lot more spirit damage, because getting slapped in the face is demoralizing. If you're looking at move compatibility, it ties in with whatever you set the wrestler's fight style. So, if you chose technical and are seeing that some moves have B-A compatibility, that means your wrestler will get less tired attempting those moves. E is the worst rank for exhausting your wrestler, I wouldn't recommend putting any E-D rank moves for your wrestler unless absolutely necessary for the wrestler's character/personality/whatever. C-A compatibility is ok and shouldn't be an issue. One more thing before it looks like I'm going on a tangent. Crits are affected by however you set them to occur in the skill catagory. Most wrestlers do criticals on their finishers by default, but you can also set them to occur on striking moves that's what Bryan Fury has, submissions, slams, etc. but doing that takes up about 25-35 edit points though. I'm not aware of anything else that affects critical chance other than that. Like I said, you kindof have to autistically dig for this information, you don't really need to know all of it to make good wreslters though, just some basic stuff. Learn how to set moves to perform on certain damage levels and move compatibility (A-E ranked moves) and you should be good for making an edit. Oh yeah, and parameters are sorta important, too. But you should be able to figure them out fairly easily.

Different styles of crits have different ways they work. Also, that isn't necessarily true on the stamina or making all your moves good affinity. There's a lot of factors that determine stamina usage that sometimes means that certain wrasslers can spam C affinity moves and last way later anyways. The game is deep as fuck.
Some of this is true, some of it is incorrect, and the rest of it you basically have to dig through ancient history to find out the truth about. I communicated a bit of the "behind the curtains" stuff last thread but I'm hesitant to give out specific information because of the rate of "minmaxed" characters we've seen before. Needless to say, there were a lot that weren't perfect on builds etc., but I'm talking characters that are just designed to dominate and not do much else. One of my biggest issues with Cirno is that at large damage, she will only go for moves that will potentially win while the opponent is on the ground and rarely ever do anything besides. If she wasn't kind of badly made otherwise, it would be hell to fight in an unfun way because of the way submissions work in particular. Pyrafag and whoever actually did Yuuka though, they're decent but they're fair and don't always just shoot for the win, which creates a longer, more entertaining match. Btw, the REAL moonman is ready for his debut this weekend. Now I didn't design him as a total god but he's been getting swole and preparing for the DOTR quite a bit since he first tried pro-wrestling.

To some degree, we are the problem, but especially the edit-makers are the potential solution. But if we keep seeing characters with all offenses they use only at 10, people trying to fit Giant types in every instance, nonstop submission holds later on etc. this kills it. We like quick matches sometimes, but the more of this design we get the less bare-knuckle drag-out nailbiters we get. It needs to stop somewhere. The philosophy for edits used to be that the more common a move, the -lower- in general it should be, not to say certain fighters should be weaker, but for instance having their big unique finisher with its unique damage types be powerful as fuck and the rest of the time a relatively moderate progression. 8mania is now seeing the opposite: dump everything into offense, all moves are A rank (so we're seeing almost the exact same character with the exact same submission holds etc.), guts+high spirit… Eve is legitimately the only "wrestler" type I've seen us get with Suplex crit style. American is typically fine, but there's just been more technicians etc., orthodox… A shitton of power and giant types too. Nidorina user, this is why I told OP to reach out to you so I can specifically hopefully give you some guidelines for a good fight while not giving you a character that will job.

So as general guidelines: more defense-heavy than offense-heavy edits, tamer stats on the 'warm-up moves' (smls & meds) and more consideration for what moves see a lot of use already so not everyone and their uncle is doing Eiffel D'Parachute. Something like that? Outside of Giant/Giant/Giant, i am not sure i get the issue with styles. Some styles are quite narrow so it makes sense for the more flexible general ones to show up more. Top contender for not working as one might expect. All of 2 front grapples qualify and neither has 'suplex' in the name. There are more in back grapples but without a guide Suplex crit is likely to end up as 'cannot crit at all'.

As for suplex crits, even a moveset based on spamming suplexes still is getting less than adequate results but we still got to witness one last mania, albeit not in the mania itself.

I mean, my Steam can be found by just going to any of the edits posted. I like making edits, but won't do any of characters I'm unfamiliar with. I had to look Opa Opa up but that was a different case, I wanted to try a unique appearance and besides, the game he's from is ridiculously simple, not hard to understand.
