Yup these two artists are people who's music I love, but when it comes to their political beliefs the second one's politics just made me cringe when I read I about them on his Wikipedia article.

I try to avoid informing myself of the political views of people whose work I enjoy

Zappa did nothing wrong.

...

Zappa was anti-union, but he was no rightwinger. Never knew Buzz was into Sowell, ugh. Truth be told, the Melvins are pretty overrated, though.

As to OP's question, Slayer can be cringey (politically and in general). And Roger Waters and PJ Harvey both supported fox hunting of all things. But other than that both of them seem alright.

I'm not exactly sure about that… Sure he wasn't a Reagenite, but he did seem to be somewhat of a lolbert though not as bad as ayncaps.

Far too many of them honestly.

Really? This is news to me. I always thought Freak Out! had leftist themes in it.

I like Death in June, It's hard to tell what the guys political stance really is but he has been accused of Nazism before and has said mixed statements about it. The band he was previously in Crisis was far left though.

I started getting more into metal specifically black and related genres after ignoring it for most of my life and I feared with everything people told me about Burzum/Varg that his music would be too good to resist….

I really don't get the appeal of the his music and not even for his unrelated political opinions, 80% of it is mediocre electronic stuff and the small amount of metal is pretty standard metal for the particular era the album happens to come from. I find a lot of NSBM is just not very good, every once in a while they have a few anthemic tracks that bang but the majority of it is just shit.

Well, Ian Curtis was a right winger and i'm listening to joy division right now. Nico was pretty bad. Any artist that came out supporting hillary (let's be honest, no one of value supported trump) but idk who would care about what their favorite musicians believed

I'm conflicted about this one.

Huh I didn't know that. Where did you find that out?

Zappa was critical of hippies but still opposed the Vietnam War. He was probably best described as a libertarian, as says. As for the anti-union stuff, it stems from his negative experiences with music industry unions.

Nobody makes it more difficult to separate the art from the artist than Varg, good thing his music sucks.

'Joy Division' is a Nazi reference.

Also add Johnny Ramone to the list of good music/bad politics.

Douglas Pearce is actually nazbol.

the name of the band is a reference to one of the darkest things ever
the music is dark as fuck
that doesn't make him right wing
fucking normies are killing this site

Euronymous was so tankie that he would make Phil Greaves look like a anarchist, a lot of his views stemmed from misanthropy though, as he generally understood Marxist theory quite well.

"I have to say that I have studied so much that I know that real communism would be the best possible system, BUT as I HATE people I don’t want them to have a good time, I’d like to see them rot under communist dictatorship. Ceausescu was great, we need more people like him, Stalin, Pol Pot too. I’ve been to Poland, Hungary and Czechoslovakia in the (good) old days, and was about to go to Albania, although it didn’t turn out. Poland was quite all right, but it could have been even MORE gray and depressing. I like secret police, cold war and worshiping of dictators. I like bugging and spying on people, torture chambers in police stations and that people suddenly “disappear”."

She used slurs, but hey so do we. And she covered that Nazi national anthem song. I don't think it was an endorsement, though.

I know, irony and reappropriation and all that.

I actually heard that Ian was a Tory, although tbh I only read it off an opinion article on his late wife's biography of him

*tbf

At that time, it would've been Thatcher.
I find that VERY hard to believe

Yea, he favored Communism over Nazism because Stalin killed more people than Hitler. He was kinda kooky, I think a lot of the misanthropy was Dead's influence.

Finally someone understands me

I can't believe I forgot this guy.

Never underestimate conservative propaganda against a waning liberal establishment (i.e. the gas crisis of the 70's)

Shit. it is true.

Exene from X is a loon of the Alex Jones variety. Mo Tucker from the Velvet Underground backed the Tea Party.

...

heh ;^)

Not that I know off.

Other than the punkroc-pop bands i used to listen to such as anti-flag who are pascifists.

Yes. Stravinsky was a monarchist/tasrist, expressed hsi contempt for democracy and complimented Mussolini.
Still his music was awesome.

Clint Eastwood?

Henry Rollins. Sort of like Chomsky in thay he supports liberalism despite realizing shit is bad because he's spooked by conservatives. And his stance on guns is awful.

I think Iggy Pop supported Reagan in the 80's but other than that I have no idea of his politics.

There's probably more but I can't think of any off my head. And Bowie might have been sympathetic to socialism.

aka why tankies are socially retarded.

You're on the wrong board, he's absolutely right.

No.

What's Rollin's stance on guns?

In the new Stooges doc, Iggy said the Stooges were communist, but weren't political in any way. (???)

Ice Cube's Death Certificate album was segregationist.

Glen Danzig has probably said stupid stuff.

Lee Ving wasn't serious, right?

Kendrick is great tbh.

The problem there is that he was attacking liberals from the right.

" [The left wing are] a bunch of fascists."

Not our guy.

Probably most of them, whenever i find out someone hold socialists beliefs it's more pleasantly suprisng than anything.

Euronymous really wasn't, he led the inner circle of the Norwegian black metal scene and had a profound influence on the aesthetics/attitudes within the genre.

My dad raised me with quite a lot of Zappa. I used to stare at this album/cd cover artwork for hours; it fascinated me. Fucking love his music.

This was my favorite song

I miss my dad ;~; He's not dead, but he's 8,000 miles away from me.

I wonder what John Doe's believes are

One of my favorite musicians growing up was a member of the NazBol party

lol why can't these idiots understand there is a difference between private ownership and personal ownership

i like rammstein and they are self claimed leftists and commies so i guess i'm doing this thread wrong

Clint Eastwood is going senile and is now known for blatant, easy americlap propaganda and publicly losing a debate to a chair

I'm so happy I finally get the toothbrush meme. I refused to ask someone, lmao. Now I get it.

We're coming for your toothbrushes

I've been wondering that for a couple of months now. I should've just asked; that's the only way to learn. A lot of people don't understand the contradiction in this, too. That capitalism surely would "repo" your personal belongings, even through some obscure loophole when you've already paid for it.

You did right not asking, it's funnier when the penny drops.

true, better payoff :^)

Fair, but million dollar baby and gran turino were both great films during his "senility."

Don't think so

What about writers?

Honestly I think Phil Anselmo is a white supremacist but hides it

...

Love him

fuckin kill me lmao

I think he did that for the simple reason that Obama always snubbed him and would hang out with Jay Z. Also to piss his wife off who was a huge Hillary fan.

MIA is a Maoist Third Worldist, even if she doesn't know it.
