For no reason in particular I feel like going on a downer binge. Give me the grimmest, saddest, most soul-crushingly depressing games you can name. I'll play them. Feel free to discuss the nature of pathos in videogames and general philosophical quandaries or whatever while you're at it.

If you want to feel a sense of urgency, suspense, dread and pants-shitting terror:

Aliens versus Predator classic 2000, Marine campaign.

Fucking normalfag.

imo just kys at this point, if you haven't subverted normalfags and infiltrated their spacies you're a failure or underage

...

You're just a closent normalfag.

Obscure 1 and then Obscure 2
Horror games but still kinda sad what happens to certain characters

The third birthday.
It helps immensely if you played and liked Parasite Eve, but it's plenty dreary by itself.

Pathologic comes to mind.

Pretty much any roguelike, dying and losing an hour or more of progress is pretty depressing.

Runescape

This

In all seriousness no games would be sad 100%, I imagine it sucks as a developer to come into the office and it looks like a wake everyday, for years on end.

I came here to say exactly this
This is a game that gives you nothing and expects you to continue playing it, its truly devoid of happiness.

Don't let Turgor play second fiddle to Pathologic, either, it's equally dark. Maybe it feels less so since there are moments of beauty as well, but it shares the same theme of confronting mortality.

I'd say Condemned 1 and 2. You might think it's a strange choice, but the games never let up from being dark and gritty for even a goddamn second. Hours and hours of just brutally beating deranged bums' heads in while roaming dilapidated shitholes and crime scenes without so much as a dark joke thrown in. All the abandoned places really just remind me of the city I live in, so it really depresses me.

You asked for it.

Although this is barely a game its an interesting story that will be sure to put you down. Should only take you a few hours

Came in here to say this, very good games

"No. You don't understand. I've been dead for 35 years. Today is the day I live."

+1 for LISA

Stop that

Crisis Core. Play it to the end.

There's a surprisingly abundant amount of Giantess Rosalina porn. Most of it isn't good.

Year Walk might work, if you want an adventure game. It's got some jumpscares, but the stuff that sticks with you is beside all that.

i think the dude who requested that actually made some of it

That's too saccharine

That's a remarkably well drawn vagina, considering how shit the rest of the art is. I guess maybe he traced it.

Fuck off

is this game actually worth it? I keep seeing it at a local game store…

Gone Home because it made more money than you ever will and people consider it good. Or just monster hunter world and you can get depressed that a series fell so far.

It's not a video game in itself, but if you haven't listened to The Protomen's first album, it's an excellent 37-minute quick-fix philosophical grimdark mega-downer. Even if it's not your style of music, I recommend trying to finish it for the story.

Reading the lyrics is mandatory, because there's story in them that you're meant to read alongside the music.

Chiptunes are the pixelart of music

Here's your (You).

Upset that evolutionism has been debunked & destroyed?

I just replayed Silent Hill 2 all decked out on PC and it was great. There were a couple graphical glitches here and there but not enough to hamper my enjoyment. It looks so fucking good. Much better than running it off a PS2 and ironically much better than the HD Collection even when that game isn't taking a shit performance wise and/or on the original art.

If anyone has the PC Silent Hill guides post it.

As a sidenote I'm sad the steam machine concept is always looked down upon. It was great playing this from a small PC under my 55 inch television with a PS2 controller. But it seems anytime that concept is brought up you get pure unbridled autism from "real gamers" and of course they didn't sell well anyway. Just seems weird I'm the only person that likes this.

The Joyful ending where you get a snippet of a conversation between Lisa and Buzzo is the darkest shit.

ask yourself OP
how deep are you willing to go

Most people recommend playing the PS2 version on PC with PCSX2.

Context on the picture please.

What the hell is that? Are you like shilling some other imageboard? I will fucking skin you alive if that is the case.

Dunno though it was just an alternative cover.

Well you know, "Works on my Machine™" and all that. PCSX2 has given me nothing but problems.

widescreenfix.townofsilenthill.com/SH2/#installGame

Says widescreen fix but I its more of a complete install guide. Pain in the dick but not as bad as some older games, and I didn't get any bugs aside from the before mentioned graphical issues here and there. Seemed to mainly effect windows and the lighting on them but like I said I barely noticed.

Whatever you say, shill.

Fuck you. Go on facedesk, remember to turn off your adblocker too.

The Darkness games are pretty depressing, especially 2.

The Pointless is worth a mention too.

It's a miserably shitty game about two ugly, horrible people who ruin everything they go near. Everything that goes wrong in their lives is entirely their own fault. Play it drunk or sick, leave the camera-bob on. By the time you get to the big climax point you'll want to either kill yourself or kill them. There is no satisfaction to be had anywhere in this mess.

It fucking sucks, I loved it.

FUCKING ENDING ON A GOD DAMN CLIFFHANGER

When I first played those games I thought that was supposed to be the intended ending. No happy ending, Jackie needed to get fucked both as punishment for the life he lived and to trap the Darkness. It was only a few weeks after I beat it when I learned a third game was supposed to follow up on it.

Russians selling human meat during famine

Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite. Just playing that game for 10 mins gives you crippling depression.

I've played it years ago, and my soul is still crushed to this day.

I didn't notice any when I played SH2, care to give examples?

...

It's a tragedy all the way around, both the story and the gameplay. But for some fucking reason, i really enjoyed that shitty game and I'll never forget it.

updates never ever :'(

...

The most depressing game is the one you play when you have nothing else to do and find the first thing that grabs your attention away from this endless waking nightmare

OK a small list.

...

Read the comic.
It's only like 20 different series intermingling with Jackie being on the side for most of it :^)

Nah. Extraction Point was pretty sad. I prefer the xpacs as the story continuation than 2 and 3, though. That being said, the xpacs don't conflict with 2 and 3 from what I recall.

Oh, and was that Nocturne the horror game or SMT Nocturne?
Can't tell as you've got SMT SJ right below it.

Hunter X Hunter is basically Togashi ripping off Arc the Lad II since he liked the game a lot, it's why he stopped working on the manga after Arc the Lad releases more or less stopped and he had no more plot points to rip off.

Track id, sounds like coconuts

The exterior windows in the apartments were solid white.

Eddie turned into a black square for about a second during his death animation (spoilers!).

The Windows in Room 312 had glowing white lines around some of the wood but only while it was playing the cutscene with Laura (not the pre-render, the in-engine).

Nothing huge and much better than the HD Collection, hooking a PS2 up to a monitor display, or (in my experience) playing with PCSX2.

Weird, I don't remember any of these happening, something major like the Eddie scene would not have escaped me. Maybe your game is just being clunky running on modern windows?

That part in the beginning where you're watching a movie with your GF and she falls asleep on you is heartbreaking when you consider what happens next.

Hello Holla Forums, done getting offended at ketchup swatiska?

OP here. Do your worst.

watch the green mile

That's not vidja.
