The only reason people think Japan is some bastion of taste is because they have a larger population. By percentage, it's probably the same or similar to the West.

It was a long "When does it get to the good part?" fest.

I uninstalled it by the time I got to the first village.
I also considered reinstalling it at some point for the porn mods, but decided it wasn't worth the trouble.

I'd never played another elder scrolls game because I lived a sheltered life, my first interaction with the series was watching someone play Oblivion at a mates house and it kinda looked a bit shit.
When Skyrim came around everyone around me was ceaselessly telling me how Skyrim was going to be an amazing game.
At the time I figured there's nothing else I really want to play right now so I might as well pick it up.
I think it was an interesting enough world and I enjoyed the quests, even though more than a few plot elements seemed dumb. However once I'd explored the map, and completed a majority of the quests in each hub area, I went and did the main story and then dropped the game. There's nothing really holding the game together outside of the quests really, so once you've had your fill of the quests, that's it.
So I understand why people call it shit. I don't think I'd pick up the next game unless a major change happened to the game.

I forced myself to play it a month back or so just to get a first-hand impression of it, and it's shit.

I started TES with it. I had heard friends enjoy oblivion and figured the newest one would be a good idea to start on. Bought it when it came out so mods didn't really exist. I figured for my first playthrough I'd be an orc who hated humans and his goal was to kill all humans he met.

I quickly realized how shit the game was when the first human I met was named and didn't die, instead just sitting on the floor and breathing heavily like an asthmatic child till he got back up and started to kick my face in. I could do nothing but run. I tried playing but the amount of railroading that game had was stupid so I stopped playing. I eventually played morrowind and fell in love with it because not only was it more mechanically complex the world felt a bit more alive, you could be that murder spree killer and not worry about shit. Stats like acrobatics that showed your character progressing by jumping higher and running farther with improving athletics.

I pretty much only play skyrim now with porn mods.

In the VN portion you have to maintain good relations with all the girls and pick one to romance. Thinking back, I'd probably pick a different one if I were to ever play it again.

If you don't mind VNs, I'd say give the first one a try.

They do, but usually only the coop ones, namely Sven Coop, L4D, Killing Floor and Vermintide. I played the latter two with Japanese folks on occasion, and it makes me appreciate how much more mindful they are of teammates unlike most Westerners in general.
