I had the great honor of living under the glory of Communism for 7 whole years in Mozambique. I got to see for myself how this rock solid political system works. My local friends spoke warmly about Samora Machel, the communist leader (people who opposed him tended to vanish). He provided plenty of food and everyday necessities for his beloved people. 1 1/2 cup of rice per person per month, half a bar of soap for the family per month, half a cup of cocking oil per family per month etc. There was absolutely no obesity what so ever in Maputo. However, due to mismanagement by politicians and bureaucrats, the entire country turned into a humanitarian catastrophe. It must have been those evil Portuguese who built the place, actually, the blacks built the place, the Portuguese would school the blacks and the blacks would do the building. The Portuguese would pay them, house them and bring them out of the jungle, literally. Unfortunately, due to the evils of the Portuguese, the communist regime drove the country into a absolute humanitarian catastrophe, mass starvation, disease and complete and utter decay of the city and infrastructure. To make matters wore, the brilliant communist leader, Samora Machel, had his evil capitalist rival killed and declared war upon the evil "rebels", who then fought for decades in an orgy of blood, killing millions. I was lucky enough to get to see the road of death between Maputo and Swaziland. Maputo used to be called the Monte Carlo of Africa, Lourenço Marques as it was formerly known, was a jewel. It was a pearl with rich soil and prosperity for all its inhabitants. Now it still remains one of the poorest countries on earth, all due to the evils of capitalism. Many of my friends are Russian and Polish. For some odd reason, they hate communism with burning passion. Whenever I try to converse about the glorious times of the USSR with them, they give me this look, of murder, cant figure out why. Every singe country on earth, that tried out communism had the same fate as Maputo - in the long run, not a single socialist country on earth lasted as much as a hundred years. Oh well, Glory to the Soviet Union and Glory to Lenin (who killed millions of people) and Mao (who killed millions) and Stalin (who killed millions). Oh before I forget, China is not communist nor socialist, at all.

I agree with you. Africa is somewhat unique due to its massive resources. Both capitalists and communists brutally exploit Africa. In Mozambique, it was the Russians who raked the resources. Swaziland is capitalist with an underlying socialistic structure. Apart of the extreme crime and murder rate, Swaziland functions pretty well.

I have many friends who are Russians. Old friends who grew up during the USSR. They can explain exactly what the book Animal Farm was all about. There were 3 classes in the USSR, the elite (~1%), the bureaucrats (~50%) and the worker (~50%) - the latter class was considered pure garbage who had to live in poverty and despair. The bureaucrats were those who flew to Crimea once a year for recreational purposes. Needless to say, the elites drowned in luxury and power.

As I mentioned in my post, there is no functioning communist country on earth. Socialist countries dont even last a hundred years before they fail. Cant blame everything on the plundering of Africa. During the capitalist buildup of the African countries, life was good for everyone. I spoke to many old Mozambicans who told me they missed the Portuguese. Same is true even in SA where there was an apartheid.

I'm not going to disagree with you about what the USSR was. These are the problems with Marxism-Leninism and state capitalism, at least in practice. You'll find very little resistance to your views here, except from tankies. However we would take issue with the assertion that Marxist-Leninist regimes have been communist in practice, especially when even their theory rejects much of the communist goals.
Furthermore, there have been non-Leninist communist and socialist movements that were actually pretty successful, and only failed because they were crushed by outside forces. These examples more closely fit our ideals of a libertarian socialist society.

Yes, socialism does work in short bursts. Yet, there is no socialist or communist country in the world that is both old and stable. Some socialist countries were subject to foreign forces who brought them down, most fell apart from a top-heavy bureaucracy and/or mismanagement.
