It would have to be a lot of human capital. We'd have to be taking a lot of people to the West for education, we'd have to be establishing a lot of schools as well as food distribution centers.

And don't get me wrong, blood would most likely have to be spilled. Strongmen and warlords have to be dealt with, and tbh I'd very much put on some battle rattle again to fight warlords enslaving their fellow people in the hope that we can bring them what they need instead of entrusting those warlords with the resources in the hope that they stay loyal to us.

But yeah, bring a lot of them to Western universities for teaching. Set up more schools and give their current teaching forces much needed support, supplies, food so the children can actually go to school and not spend their time starving and barely subsisting. Of course it would. All these African nations lack an educational, material technological base to create prosperity on the level we are accustomed to. For them to even move to mere middle income tier would take huge efforts, as have been undertaken by for example China. People forget this, but China didn't become wealthier by opening up, but rather to large scale government planning, investment, and the likes. So first the African nations would need well functioning governments, and those would need to make the all the right choices - all for these things to pay of several generations from now, while the rest of the world has already moved on even further.

Extracting resources for the benefit of the colonizer is the only goal. Obviously to do that the colonizing nation has to build some infrastructure but it's not like it was built to help the locals. The infrastructure is only built to get the material out of the country. Roads and power lines aren't going to people outside of the areas the colonizer has deemed worthy. Colonialism is a bad word because it's an ugly, exploitative practice not because of the victimization of misunderstood colonizers who took on the thankless burden of bringing "civilization" to the third world.

It is undeniable that China has brought some benefits to Africa. For once America/Europe is facing competition there. China comes takes resources BUT also provides services and technology to Africans.

Like other user said, you cannot have socialism without Capitalism first. Since most of Africa today is not even fully industrialised and is largely agricultural, it makes sense to invest in a diverse sectors through trade and development. Which is way more than what US/Europe gave to Africa which was basically money to corrupt dictators in exchange for resources.

This is literally the same line of reasoning to justify western colonialism. China has a completely one sided relationship with Africa. In exchange for massive resource extraction African governments are given billions of dollars in loans with the stipulation that development projects that use this money can only be bid on by Chinese contractors who by and large hire Chinese laborers. Once again colonialism is only beneficial to the colonized and some select locals.

At this stage of globalized capital I don't think every nation has to go through the capitalist tech tree to unlock socialism. Capitalisms unique contribution to technology is almost exclusively in production. I don't see why this technology and knowledge wouldn't be shared with underdeveloped nations. Marx also denied that the process that western Europe underwent wasn't the immutable model for all human development.

These countries are put into debt in order to build infrastructure, then they lose their mineral wealth in exchange for that infrastructure. Anything that isn't good for extracting shit from the ground is left to rot. Meanwhile China and whats left of western manufacturing flood the market with super cheap goods under free trade treaties that prevent local manufacturing from ever getting a foothold.

It's the free trade agreements that really cinch it. No country has ever managed to industrialize without protecting infant industries, paying high prices for worse products in the short term, but building expertise and capital for the long term.
