People say that star citizen has received too much money for development.

Should the real question be, have most AAA games produced so little for what development money that they've received? Look at all of the money GTA 5 has made & received for development & consider how poor of an experience the online mode is.

It's also worth considering how much of a AAA game's budget goes into shilling the game, instead of into actual development.

How do you even spend 200m on advertising a game?

pay off every publication to run ads, pay for the great reviews when the game launches, plaster ads on public transit, run TV ads (megajewbucks if you do it during something like the Superbowl), run ads before movies.

By catering to stupid kids, and paying the shills that enable them to make bad decisions.

Because of how amazing its glass was.

My question is why do we tolerate that shit? I see titanfall threads here, when the first game came out there was a solid month of template thread flooding old/v/ at all hours. Everyone that gives money to the company that pushed that kind of shit should be banned.

did it turn it into diablo 2?

capitalism, spending more money telling someone to buy a product than actually making a good product :/

It hasn't received nearly enough.

How the fuck did an Atari game cost 22 million? Are they sure they didn't confuse the game and movie budgets?

Licensing rights perhaps? E.T. proved a very popular film, and I'd wager that, regardless of how the game turned out in retrospect (hindsight being what it is), I'm sure a number of companies would have been looking to jump on the rights to make money off it for a game "adaptation". Also, note that that $22mil in 1982 was apparently $55mil worth of a cost in [CURRENT YEAR +2], and probably somewhat more now.

Said price actually blows the movie's own budget out of the water at that. Apparently the movie cost about $10mil to make, but a year later had pulled in almost $620mil worldwide in profit. Depending on how much of that profit was made when (both the film and Atari game being 1982 releases), I can see how Atari might have had less qualm than they should have towards dropping a huge amount of that $22mil on just the license, if it stood a chance to rake in similarly large profits for them. Also the factor that if memory serves Atari printed off WAY too many copies of the game, which could also have eaten a good bit of that budget on which they wouldn't see a return on.

Punished Roberts
A man denied his starship jpegs contraband.

I bet others would say it hasn't received enough

...

If you've ever seen the game itself, you'll know that the development costs were about $120.
Games didn't start costing 1 million until the late 90s.
In the 80s, for the most part it was 1-2 guys sitting in a room programming for 3-6 months and that was it.

They buried the surplus games in the desert.

...

Heaven's GATE would be more thematically appropriate than Jonestown.

...

...

When you spend more on making a game than the market is worth, you'll have to water it down for the sake of wider appeal for a larger market. When indie devs get too much money, the problem is usually lack of oversight.

Today I Learned… That someone is making a Star Citizen Visual Novel…

Erotic visual novel, it should be stressed.

...

I would willingly murder any Westerner and his whole family that tries to develop a visual novel. They always, always fuck it up.

If you've started with a new IP like Starcitizen, then it wouldn't be a good idea as it prevents you from having a sequel if it fails to earn that amount. Investors would prefer to invest in cheaper projects with a short deadline.

It also seems that developers tend to be creative with the limitations of smaller projects.

Been thinking about this aren't a lot of game dev studios located in socialist Europe like DICE and Rockstar North? It seems that most games developed in Capitalist countries games like Japan and US are devoid of lootboxes.

Someone really needs to stop being a dumbass newfag.

Oh yeah! How's SC going anyway? Release soon?

:(

Just because they have universal health care or some other things you don't like doesn't mean Europe isn't capitalist. Might as well complain that public libraries also mean the US isn't capitalist.

Smh fam

It isn't, though. Unless you're some libertarian retard who thinks government safety regulations are a bad thing.
The marxism is propagated by the media, and it's growing in the US just as cancerously as in Europe.

Go away.

Is there a scene that involves bondage and tickling?

What I'm going to do now is related to this image.

We can only hope.

Games like SC only show that all these retarded has-been fatbody devs need a couple of suits to whip them into doing actual work.

Ironically, crowd funding to get away from "publisher meddling" only proves that devs by themselves are incompetent.

I made this yesterday, didn't knew it would come in handy today

i spent money on it in 2013

where is the game

Fuck off Holla Forums

This can't be real….

...

I'm not even going to try to defend SC. They clearly can't handle the scope of their project, and have slid the campaign directly into an illuminati money laundering pyramid scheme.

That said, I think all AAA games should have the scope and ambition of what Star Citizen "claims" it will be. I want to see companies gambling hundreds of millions of dollars and tens of thousands of careers on hail-mary overdesigned shots in the dark.
Why? Because at least 0.5% of those would turn out to be groundbreakingly amazing games, and vidya would actually be good again for the first time in nearly 30 years.
Also all those people would lose their jobs and their families would die from hunger, so that would be fucking cool.

Thanks for letting me know to disregard everything you have to say. Just because Holla Forums doesn't like it doesn't mean that the overwhelming majority of people don't enjoy the game. Holla Forums has shit taste and retarded opinions about basically everything. GTA Online has been a MASSIVE success, over a billion fucking dollars have been made from their jewtastic sharkcards. You don't make a billion dollars off of cattle with anything even close to resembling a poor experience. 5 years on now and there's still a massive multiplayer community in that game.

It just cracks me up how retarded this place be.

This is bait but
Tell that to PUBG.

No matter how much you hate this trash at least the game logic is pretty much fault less. You can play and win or lose. Game works. Star Citizen does not.

Except for the awful optimization, known glitches and exploits, and abundance of hackers.

Requesting the webm of the guy climbing out of a space ship off a ladder with after credits added

STOP POSTING THE SAME WEBM OVER AND OVER AGAIN AS IF EVERY BELIEVER WAS A FURFAG

Jesus christ.

Spending money on it is the game.

found the scam citizen backer

I don't believe SC will be half of what was promised and I'm aware it's far behind schedule. But they do have a real game out and it's still in active development. It's not a scam. And these videos are mostly annoying cheap shots.

Star shitizen is what happens when you let gamers design their dream game and give them basically limitless money to do it. No direction, conflicts of interest, dumb decisions and so on. This is why you need a publisher to keep the dev team within established time limits. This is also why the project manager should actually have business experience as opposed to being a kid in a candy store with mom's credit card.

Stating a reasonable opinion is not cool, you either absolutely abhor Shekel Yidizen and firmly believe that within the next 5 days it will come crashing down with no survivors and fans will organize group suicides, or you're a shill with $10000 worth of jaypegs.

How many jpegs did you both buy?

Touche, it might be more like quarter, probably with 10-15% of the promised systems
No one said that, you're just demonstrating that you are exactly the type of retard I was talking about
Yeah no, it might well be a complete mess that runs at 5fps all the time, but still a quite enormous amount of work went into what they have now. Lots of work != good game, but certain aspects of what they've done are impressive regardless, and you can actually live your life without calling literally everyone who dares say anything good about them a shill.

Just go to this page. Don't be misled by the 18%, because a lot of that has next to nothing to do with the game proper

starcitizentracker.github.io/

The faggot you were quoting said that. Learn to read you imbecile. Let me quote him for you

Learn to fucking read.

I didn't call you a shill, I just called you a cult member suffering under sunken cost fallacy. There is no game here, it's a bunch of mods that barely mesh together and break the game even in highly scripted vertical slices. They're five years into developing it and have nothing to show for it. By now all the core gameplay mechanics should have been implemented and they should be busy adding content, instead all they do is shit out more jpegs and find new ways to turn the "game" into an even bigger p2w scam. At least other p2w turds are actually out and functional.

...

It's not a real game either. Funny how you ignored everything else when I provided solid proof the game is a massive scam.

The same way you can spend $1 Billion on a losing presidential race

Sick of seeing people against NatSoc and pretend to be Holla Forums

This is Holla Forums, what do you expect? They swallowed the Derek (jizz) Pill and lost over 100 IQ where thia game is concerned.

Arguably some games need more of a push than others, but I'm not sure I'd consider something with by then existing popularity like Call of Duty to be one of those. Especially not a "let's drop four times the actual development costs on shilling" tier push.

Really makes you think…

...

Hmm good point, I'll see if I can make a new version of my WebM using them instead.

You mean capitalism or (((finance capitalism)))?

...

Oh, he baked it, but still disgusting. Interesting documentary at least, Chris Roberts was a literally who to me until Holla Forums started laughing at his shitty space MMO.

OH BOY, EVERYBODY! BUY A CPU WITH A HARDWARE EXPLOIT FROM 1995 AND GET A FREE PICTURE OF A SPACESHIP IN A GAME THAT WILL NEVER EXIST!

Oh, wait, it’s just their SSD. Still, the firmware in those has a backdoor for Israeli surveillance.

Good Lord, user, it's an unreleased video game, not a religion.

This. Even if they're retards, furfags don't deserve to be compared to star citizenfags.

Because Mark the kike.

It basically is religion my dude.

This art style was extremely common on book covers from the 70s, is there a name for it?

Stop posting physics bug videos. Especially redundant ones.Especially bugs that are relatively easy to iron out. You're obviously just being petty.

I made the mistake of buying gta 5 like an idiot, and I personally believe they blew most of their budget on hookers and blackjack.

I enjoyed the game on ps3 it was a pretty good used game buy

What did CIG do to Crytek?

Violated their contract.

That's lewd.

These are all great.

Then why haven't they done it?
Besides, all kinds of things are happening in these.
