Not all of us want to get married. The thing is it's as much a political statement as it is a personal one of love, it's the admission that we are part of society and are equal and so some gays want to use this to either piss off conservatives or to 'stand up for gays' by using it. Like I said though,there are logical reasons to get married .

Gay marriage is utterly illogical though. Marriage is not a political statement it's a set of rules providing legal and moral expectations on two people so they can provide for a family.

The whole point of the assets joining legally is for this reason, two gay men joining assets without the need for a family is absolutley ridiculous and gay marriage itself is the pointless political statement.

If you want better next of kin laws then marriage should not be in the equation simply for that.

1. either marriage is a church thing for LARPers and does not grant financial or other benefits

Marriage has nothing to do with the church and has not historically, there are undiscovered tribes who have marriage ceremonies and legal ramifications.

A court cannot and should not have the power to determine what marriage is when it's been blatantly obvious to humans for so long, and any change of that should come through the legal channels, ie change the laws.

what's the point, even? how would better bathroom environments for all students, including transgender students, affect anyone in a negative manner? it would only have pros. the only con for anyone would be that trans students would be safer and the right doesn't want this for obvious, sad reasons.
