As it clearly states in that screencap, I enjoyed Euphoria. This VN is also made by Clockup. My entire premise for reading MB was based on this. I had hoped that the surprisingly good storytelling from Euphoria would carry over, and that it would be like a diamond in the rough B movie. It didn't live up to that.

I read MB completely in 3 sessions. It wasn't terribly long. I posted my initial impressions in the thread and it sparked discussion with other anons asking me to keep going. That was my motivation to finish it. I probably would have stopped if it weren't for that.

I clearly enjoyed it? Absolutely. There were things about it I liked. I liked the black priest who showed up to punch things and scream Engrish and the villian witches who slut it up for magic power and then kill their partners. The basic premise to the story had a lot of promise. I liked writing my impressions of it all. These small elements do not overcome everything else in the VN. I didn't jerk off to it and feel guilty. My not being able to jerk off to anything despite the fantastic artwork was part of the problem. I think the VN was way too edgy at the expense of everything else. If it being edgy doesn't dissuade you from being interested, then what is your problem? Buy 10 copies of it with my blessing. While you're at it, buy Euphoria and Saya no Uta. They're way better than MB.

When is a VN considered a video game? Literally the only moments of interactivity in that are two yes/no choices. At least the dating sim ones let you pursue different girls and choose dialog options that influence but not necessarily dictate which ending you get.

So I've been talking to a friend of mine about VNs and he highly recommend Yu-No. Being that I'm already fluent in Japanese, I decide to take a whack at the Windows version of the game. I've played a lot of VNs, as well as SNs, and while the game was good, I don't get the praise that people throw over this game. Is it that I've played so many other games VS people that have never played a game like that (because they don't understand JP)?

I believe it's a combination of good music, a time travel (or parallel universe) story line that doesn't completely shit its self like many do, and the way it handled turning a high school dating sim into a murder mystery and sci-fi adventure. I think it could have done without most of the sex scenes as many feel forced in a story that didn't really benefit from it. But the silver ball mechanic was a nice way of tying a common game mechanic into the narrative and seeing how the MC reacted to certain situations (where he knew where this was leading to) was interesting. All that combined with a great art style. I can't think of many games that can pull all of that off well.

My memories of Fakku from ages ago are 2 things. I downloaded G Senjou no Maou from there, and I remember them celebrating their 3rd or 4th anniversary amid endless technical errors that made the site near impossible to visit. Even back then, when everything was 100% free, Fakku was that garbage website that you'd only visit after exhausting every other possible option. I get nothing from games with male protagonists. I often can't connect to the protagonist in any way, and they're often such awful characters that I can't view them as characters, so in the end, I get nothing from the game. This makes finding games I'll enjoy really awful, because I'll have to check the gameplay or watch a video on it before I dedicate myself to it or I'll be disappointed and give up.

Anyone happen to have something that they can recommend me along the lines of an Otome(gril protagonist) game with a deep and long-developing relationship between the protagonist and another character, or even one that does not feature romance? I prefer crazier settings, or VNs where the world is a big part of the story. This often means scifi or noir or post-apoc shit, but I don't really care. It's just so difficult finding shit I'd want to play because it's all targeted at lonely teenage boys or little girls, or if it's for grown women it's annoying "girly" in that slightly "sexist," presumptuous way.

I just played Doki Doki Literature Club and I had the itch for getting to know deeper, very troubled characters. Particularly Natsuki, in that instance.

You play as Yamato, the smartest guy out of his group of friends and you live in a word where all the girls you know inherit the samurai blood of the local area. You get along with your group of friends but eventually some things change when two new girls join the group. Out of the heroines, the first one is Momoyo, the strongest girl in the world. The basis of the path is trying to get her to see Yamato as a man but that will only happen when he beats her in battle, which leads to the excellent 'Kawakami War' scenario. Second is Kazuko, she's naive like a kid to anything eechi and loves to practice so she can follow her grandfather and take over the Kawakami temple. Her path involves Yamato training her to take on an opponent. Third is Miyako, who already shares a past with Yamato and desperately wants to make him her boyfriend. Many of the bad ends involve her finally just jumping on him because he said something nice about her. Forth is Christine, from Germany. Massive Japanophile, her path involves trying to not only get Christine to accept Yamato as a boyfriend but also her father, a General in the German Army. There's also Margit, a special forces operative who's like a big sister to Christine and will break Yamato in half if he does anything lewd to Christine. Last is Yukie, a year younger than the group but she comes from the north west in search of 100 friends. Despite the "Yamato-nadeshiko" look, she's kind of a closest pervert, which Yamato takes advantage of. She's also the third strongest girl in the world and quickly rising, with some saying she could be the strongest due to her Mayuzumi sword technique.

And you know the best thing? This is just the heroines in the first game. Majikoi S has 5 more plus after stories for all these girls. And then the A series has more after that. Minato Soft have done pretty good adding to this over a 10 year period. S and A 1 & 2 are translated.
So play it. It's funny, translation is damn fine and it makes you feel like you have friends again.

These are mostly older games, but they are some of the better console SNs that I have played and are easily accessible. IIRC the spiritual sequel to 街～運命の交差点～ (Machi~ The Crosswalk of Destiny~) which is called 428～封鎖された渋谷で～ (428 ~Blockaded Shibya~) is getting an English localization next year for PS4 and Windows, if you don't speak Japanese. This has to be one of the best VNs that I have ever played and it's the 9th game to received a perfect 40/40 by Famitsu - and that says a lot. Take a look at some of the videos on Youtube or something and see if it would interest you. Also if you are willing to go to the PC88 and PC98 there are a lot of really good VNs that aren't strictly eroge, thought there is a shitload of that anyway.

But yes. Each of the girls have a tragic past and once you learn about it, you begin to understand how they ended up that way. Take Amane for instance, she's very forward from what she wants from Yuuji but that stems from what happened in Angelic Howl, which also stems into what happened to Yuuji's sister Kazuki, which also stems into what happened to his family and how he ended up with Asako. It's why I'm devouring Paradise right now, because I want to see how these interconnected stories end.

I'm about a quarter through Kamidori Alchemy Meister, I think. I can't stand this fucking game anymore and I am seriously losing any and all motivation to slog through the rest of this shit.

Yuuji opens up to her a bit about what happened with him and Asako and it's the same kinda thing he does for her, gives her options for her future and allows her to make her own choices. It's worth going through.

I guess it would be difficult to build up as a part of the regular gameplay (assuming you want to say VNs have regular gameplay in the first place), but the thought of having the game turn the tables on you when it comes to the "All grills are scripted to fall in love with you" scenario might be rather interesting.
