Vices in a socialist society

So i'm in this business ethics class and some old dude posed the question of selling cigarettes in a supermarket, framing it as a moral question.

So my question is, would cigarettes and other "vices" that people deem unhealthy be allowed in a socialist society?

I live in a non socialist society and most of the vices aren't allowed. Still i can easily get everything i want.
Passing laws prohibiting things doesn't solve anything. It's illegal to commit murder, yet people still kill each other and go to jail. These issues must be tackled in a diferent way.

exactly, there will always be a market

or people able to directly modify central plan.

Stuff is a vice because of spooks and living long and healthy is a bigger spook but getting real.

Tabacco and alcohol are not bad, people become alcoholics due mental problems that we can trat better on a socialist society, the same about tabacco, did you guys know tabacco is a powerful antipsichotic?
Gambling is a complicated issue since what are we going to gamble in a gift economy? rare pepes?

What other vices are there to be concerned?

My personal desire is no. I think a socialist society should strongly discourage harmful habits like smoking. It does place a burden on society for treatment. If you must smoke, do it in your home.

I would hope that people will just play games for fun.

In an egalitarian socialist society, vices and virtues would be a matter of consensus. Values would emerge organically and change over time, and evaluating or enforcing them would be a matter of how the people in a given community would feel about it, expressed in some form of deliberative institution. Ideally, this institution would also consult technically knowledgeable people who would be able to impartially and scientifically evaluate whether allowing a particular behavior or policy would be harmful to the people as a whole.

Personally, I wouldn't mind most ethical and legal matters to be decentralized and vary by region, so you could have communities that are against drug use or violent entertainment next to communities where those things are A-OK.

Gambling exists in gift societies, you'd gamble pretty but useless things like beads or internet points.

Only vice that would stop existing that I can think of is prostitution, no one would be willing to do that anymore.

Experts can't be trusted to not overweight their personal interests.
Oh, the precious Americuck moral posture and its universal light to the world. I see no reason for officialdom to give a fraction of a fuck about muh larp, except to prosecute acts harmful to the public interest or resettle those being bullied by their community on the basis of muh larp.
Only liberals need the Karpman drama triangle as constants in their societies.

Why? You really need to show your work here so that we can put your unstated assumptions into the grinder.

Most gambling games are not fun, the excitment comes from the risk that gambling money gives

So people will gamble rare pepes eitherways

Cheer up user, girls will lower their standards on an egialitarian society
or maybe you're just a repelent fuckhead.

Drugs would be mandatory as part of our soviet mind control experiments.

I dunno why so many commies think this.

Not entirely true. Prostitution can still exist in a socialist society, but it would likely be in the form of a state owned/operated harem.

Also, there would be regulations regarding what can happen between the 2 parties involved. Believe it or not, some people enjoy having sex and being paid for it. Not every prostitute is forced into the position through the state of capitalism.

I've met people who have sold themselves for things much less than money, mostly because they just wanted to be a whore. That's not going away either.

That's a combination of shit parenting, mental issues resulting from said shit parenting, and 24/7 brainwashing through all forms of media reinforcing that behavior.

Can't do much about the first, but we can treat the second, and the third wouldn't exist at all under socialism nor communism.

...

Morally the additive chemicals in cigs should be banned at least. They only add it to make it more addictive.

lol op are you even considering to outlaw drugs, self-harm and suicide?
we had all that and empirical evidence as well as logical thinking shows it is moronic and doesn't work.

in an utopian society nobody is addicted anyway.

you'll have a better chance of a pity fuck under socialism user. or just find a fag to fuck, plenty of gays aren't picky.
