Is it just me or Far Cry 5 settings and it’s antagonists feels dumber and more unrealistic than Homefront or COD ghosts? Socialist Superpower Venezuela or North Korea becoming the biggest global power are dumb. But a single cult occupying America Isis style without no one noticing seems stupider to me. Mostly because how much Far cry takes its self seriously. A unrealistic setting sticks out like a sore thumb.

I actually liked how well they pulled that off in FC4, it one of the few redeemable factors of that game.
They should have stuck with the exotic. I'd have loved to see a Far Cry game where you fight in Saharan Africa in the 50s alongside Bedouins against nazi holdouts and mudslime bandits and whatnot, discovering old Templar ruins and pyramids and shit. Add a thirst mechanic and disable fast travel, make the player take a camel or train everywhere, maybe the occasional jeep. Add lots of british guns, and give it a vague Lawrence of Arabia vibe.
I'm in Maine, pretty much the northern equivalent of a flyover state, and FC5's setting just looks boring as fuck. I could drive to a town that looks like their map, stop in at a diner and have an amazing meal, chat with some friendly locals, go fly fishing, and hit the local watering hole to talk to the old-timers IRL. It's only exotic to permanent cityfags, and it's just going to give a bad impression of what rural areas look like in the same way that people actually think AssCreed had even remotely accurate depictions of historical settings.
