Because it's fun. You get that caveman feeling of stacking up resources when looting, and due to the somewhat RNG nature of the game, even the worst players always feel like they have a chance to get #1, so everyone feels like an equal competitor. Plus, unlike other current "competitive" games, if shit goes badly and you lose, you aren't stuck in game with an awful team for the next 90 minutes. Just leave and try again. If you really think about it, the game is an evolution of the arena shooter, with a survival emphasis.

The game is early access sure, but I've tried out the new 1.0 build that's going to launch in a few days, and it actually feels like a genuinely complete game. Other than a few wonky collusion mechanics with vehicles there aren't too many bugs left.

Two maps now, both of which actually play differently. However the original map is clearly made with a lot less time and care than the new once, now that they realize how many people are buying it. I would consider my feeling of the game "mixed," but I was able to actually describe why it was fun, beyond spouting memes about normalfags and saying they only bought it because they're retarded. In it's current state, I would definitely say I overpaid for the game to some degree, but I'm also not going to lie and say I'm not genuinely having fun with it. It has some serious optimization problems and a few bugs that while not serious can be pretty jarring at times. I picked the game up because I enjoyed playing the guy's arma 3 mod and this is just a better version because you don't have to deal with arma 3 desync and bullshit physics. DayZ will forever be shit because you spend hours looting or a few minutes looting on a dead server only to be killed in just a few minutes. Plus little to no progress has been made on the development of DayZ standalone. DayZ mod for Arma 3 is better than standalone and Exile/Breakingpoint/Wasteland are all much more enjoyable game modes than DayZ.

Fortnite's BR mode is more polished (even though it was probably thrown together in weeks), free, and the developer is actually adding to and patching it at a pace faster than grass growing. If you just want to dick around with one of these types of games to see what all the fuss is about, it's the better choice.

To me, it has an almost gambling sensation to it. Everyone drops in at random with a random circle and it's fun to see how long you will last even if you are shit and hide the whole match.

It's also more fun to watch than like CoD or Destiny which is a bunch of dying and respawning, because PUBG has like a story that plays out each match. And it's not hard for people who don't play games to understand what's going on. All they need to know is "X amount of people left".

The driving is perfectly fine. Except for car on car collusion I don't really see any sort of problems with the driving mechanics. As for the maps being open and empty, I probably would have defended that a few days ago, but I've tried the new map and it really showcases how rushed the original map was.

It's actually an enjoyable game with an original concept behind it. No one has made an actual Hunger Game/Battle Royale inspired MMO game before. The "special" thing PUBG does is the gameplay. While I'm aware it's a ripoff of H1Z1, I never played that, so I never got the experience. most people didn't, which means this type of game is brand new to a lot of people. It does it "fine" at worst, and from playing the test servers so you can beta test an early access game you paid for game, you can see a lot of improvements happening It's not the greatest, but it's looking good, and there's some clear, very valuable differences with updates, showing the game isn't fucking abandoned.
