I just liked the face, to poke fun of Polygon, I swear I had no other reasons.

I'm not really surprised with bait selection like Depression Quest or Gone Home, but what really irritates me is how this "video game canon" is blindly considered to be unsurpassed. They're extremely influential, otherwise they wouldn't be included in this canon, but by no means are they fantastic games (with the exception of Doom, but it only stands the test of time because of how it's dedicated community continues to breathe new life into it.)

Doom is such a "pure" shooter I feel like a dickhead using that word but I find it appropriate here that it is made or broken by the level design. Really just about any good game is. As long as people continue to make levels for it, it will be a very playable game, in the same way that other autists still make Super Mario World romhacks. It does take a good degree of talent to make your game mechanics tight enough for random users to want to make levels for it, for free.

And of course I get the worst one on the chart.

They put Thief 3 above Thief 1 and Thief 2 was missing from the list. History is a bitch, even though Thief was arguably the 3rd most influential game in the 90s after Doom and Quake shit like Half Life gets more attention even though they did nothing new but was more popular.
Also, Gothic is not on the list. Gothic was the first real western ARPG and it NEVER gets any attention. Morrowind was just following it's footsteps.

Three episode rule faggot. It's comfy, the friends are all unique with personalities that actually feel like they match the animals they were designed after rather than "nyaa i'm a catgirl xD i luv u master let me lick you", a ton of heart was poured into it from the incredibly small team, they didn't have the budget to get many popular voice actresses so they hired a lot of new voice actresses that you can't really hear anywhere else, and there's a sense of mystery about the background of the setting that develops slowly.

As for the look, the animation improves after the first episode. It's a style that takes some getting used to but once you do, you will notice that the animators included tons of subtle details and mannerisms that make the characters feel alive. It isn't in any way lazy, they put an incredible amount of effort into making the best show they could under their time and budget constraints in a way they never could have pulled off with traditional 2D animation. The show is practically a national treasure in Japan because they recognize just how much passion the team and the director in particular had for what they were working on.

I never took Polygon seriously, but holy shit.

Granted if they did have some of the lesser known or god tier ps2 titles on the list it would take up half of it. Dmc3, kh2fm and 1, mgs 2 and 3, god hand, silent hill 2 and 3, etc. And those are just the obvious picks. The selections they have on the list are very surface level, regardless of the fact this is a list and therefore subjective. It just appears uninformed or "there is 500 games so I better start wikipedia'ing more".
