VR is a series of mobileshit tier games and tech demos being sold to you.

It's not just a gimmick- It's a gimmick 2-3 years along with not one "Killer app" game or must have.

None

Instead of buying a scam headset to put between your eyes, spend your $500 on a gun and put that between your eyes instead.

Just remember for years computers were also seen as a mostly gimmicky thing without much use. Video games in general had the same treatment.

Wait for teledildonics to be perfected so you can be the little girl in VR sex with other fags like yourself.

Looking forward to it.

Buy a noose and kill yourself, loser.

Do you need it that badly? Just wait a year or two and see what happens. It is a very fun looking gimmick, but is it worth the current price? Because I don't think it is.

wait for it to cost $40 bucks.

this game has come a long way since this webm was made. I really want to get an oculus and here's hoping they go on sale during the holiday season

sauce bls

You didn't even try.

...

Razer's OSVR. I say this unironically.

Google didn't buy HTC, they just took a bunch of talent.

It has, just not for consumers.

I'm not even him, but I'm going to taunt you with cropped lewds from it.

t. (((Razer)))

It's weird what Razer is doing, but it's completely open source VR. All the schematics you need for building it are available as well as kits, or you can buy an assembled one from Razer for $400.

I stopped reading that when the scanlators all dropped it and it, eventually, got picked up by some shitty one-man production. Did anyone proper ever get back to it and make it readable/legible?

We actually have some pretty good translators on >>>/u/, feel free to bug them.

I'm sick of techhead "ebin futurists" trotting out this line of thinking.

Tech has evolved over time- Sure.

Typically along each step though- SOMETHING of merit has been produced for it as time went on or it was utilized to some degree.

We're fairly along in the VR Spore-volution incarnations and still there's nothing happening. Even with two companies pumping money in and having their own tech there is not one fucking thing of note made exclusively for VR.

We still have the same wiggling around havok physics props shit as we did in the starry eyed early 00s with IBM tier nerds droning on over footage.

The same glorified VR roller coasters you had to pay a buck-fifty to ride.

The only difference is the graphics of those shitty havok physics props have gotten better and now you can teleport a few feet in a direction awkwardly.

Apparently Acer's coming out with their own headset that doesn't require the stupid external sensors like Vive and Oculus. Downside is you look like a ginormous faggot while wearing them.

Also, I agree that it's still too gimmicky and too expensive to justify purchasing. But if you have money lying around, sure, why not?

Just came into this thread why you had to double space all of your sentences.

Readability, also fuck off with the impending "muh reddit spacing" Meme. Not everything has to be one giant run on nigger block.

Well that's what paragraphs are for, isn't it?

It's already out.

That said, the Samsung Odyssey is the only Windows MR headset worth a damn.

readability is perfectly fine. save the double spaces for separating paragraphs or disconnected ideas

Holy shit. It looks like everyone is jumping on the band wagon.

If you were able to >inb4 your reddit formatting, why not just choose not to format your posts like you're on reddit?

Nothing, it's stupid gimmick they try every once in a while because they want to be the best and first on an unused market, but they can and will never pull it off, just like 3D movies.

If all of them are a waste of money, Cardboard is the best, as it is by far the smallest waste of money.

None
VR shit aren't even full fledged games.

The best would be not wasting the money in the first place.

As a VR user:
Vive is the best option or the Oculus with a bonus base station and the knuckles.
The other headsets basically aren't supported by anything, and PSVR is trash.

The majority of Holla Forums has never used VR, so they don't know a single thing about it.
Most people here think VR is sitting infront of a PC with a headset on while playing some game with a console controller and keyboard and mouse.
That version indeed fucking terrible and the novelty wears off within two or three hours.

The true meat is in roomscale games, with motion controllers since the tech actually works and is pinpoint accurate 99% of the time.
Those are the only VR games on PC that actually sell, including cockpit sims like VTOLVR.
The problem with VR is not the tech, that shit works perfectly. At best they can update the resolution and ergonomics.
People got used and solved the teleportation only shit rather early on, now we have games with quadruplejumping, wallrunning, floorsliding and so on.

The only problem that VR has is that the userbase is so small that nobody is making system sellers for it. Its all indies that are putting out content, and VR is slightly over a year old now.

You mean glorified rail shooters.

This is the exact opposite. You're not going to get hundreds of hours out of shit gimmicky motion control games where you have to stand up and move around to play, and sadly all developers are trying to push that shit regardless. The only merit of motion control is that it's good for porn games.
Meanwhile, using VR just to play the same KBM games you've already been playing, but on a larger screen and in 3D would be where it's at, but the support for this is very crappy. VR for productivity or for reducing eyestrain during PC use is also great, but again, shit support, I was very surprised at how bad all VR-supporting media players were, and the only virtual desktop app that isn't utter shit is also very lacking, doesn't even support 4k thanks to being only on SteamVR and Cuckulus.

For opee, I'd recommend waiting for the new Pimax HMDs, or if not that, maybe getting OSVR or Fove. Avoid Oculus.

There are enough multiplayer VR shooters that use proper locomotions with a stable playerbase.

Ranging from Pavlov VR, Onward, Raw Data and Sairento VR.
With Sairento VR being a ninja FPS game where you can wallrun, diablo style loot and shit.

You have literally no idea what you are talking about, nobody fucking buys VR games that do not have roomscale on PC.
The only games that are popular like that are games that are popular on desktop anyway, but happen to have VR support like Elite Dangerous.
The novelty wears off and you just play that shit on desktop after a few sessions like before.

I had a vive since release and its the only thing I do with it since everything else is trash. I've clocked almost 300 hours into it and its still good. The only thing that needs to change is for VR to get system sellers.

This is your idea of a stable playerbase?

I find players in that regularly, but the playerbase is indeed small.

I want simulated hugging and kissing too. VR as it stands doesn't offer me much I can't already enjoy with a monitor or ASMR.

what is even the point?

Apply the standard rule for new hardware: are there at least five games actual games, not tech demos you'll get bored with 30 minutes in you want to play now that require it? If yes and it's within your budget buy it, if no then wait.
This rule applies to all hardware, from consoles to upgrading your GPU or CPU to niche peripherals like VR, flight sticks or wheels.

Well, there is VR chat. It has lots of cute small loli guys with cute voice changer and they hug, kiss and take headpats.

Obviously not, nobody would buy a gimmick game with half the gimmick. I was referring to games that are made for desktop also supporting to a VR headset. If you could play half your existing game library in VR, it'd be much better advertisement than
And most games really wouldn't need any massive investment to add VR support aside from some UI changes. Valve already made the theater app to get halfway there, but it doesn't work at the shitty low resolution the Vive has and it again doesn't support 4k.

You already can with VorpX or mods, and its not worth it. If its not designed for VR its simply tedious at best and you just take the headset off and play whatever on your desktop.

Looking around in true 3D is mere novelty, it wears off and then you have jackshit to do - I tried it and its not something that has any real value to it.

This doesn't include full on conversion mods like the Doom 3 VR mod.

It does work, especially since you can supersample if your PC can handle it. Its just that there isn't any real point to it.

...

Just pirate it.

Look, VR is a meme. Just like motion controls. It will always exist in some capacity but it will never be a good time when it does rear its ugly head again.

Microsoft "mixed reality" headsets from several manufacturers are currently flooding the market and SteamVR/Lighthouse is opening up to more companies. Things are still overpriced so I'd say wait a while and pretty quickly headsets will start hitting the bargain bucket like the old HP Touchpad did.
