In Melty, you can really put on a lot of pressure on someone thanks to Reverse Beat (you don't have to follow the "weak-medium-strong" attack string to combo well) and the various ways you can mix up your combos. It's allows the aggressor to keep someone in the corner for 10+ seconds slowly chipping away at their guard meter. It also helps that this game has many normals that gain an overhead property when you charge some of them.

Meanwhile, the person defending has to watch out for high-low mixups, throws, low airdash mix-ups, and such. However you can side-step or shield to give yourself an advantage. You can counter attack to stop someone's pressure if you EX-shield which is shielding at the right moment. It's like a meterless dead angle that relies on proper timing instead of meter. Not many games have crazy corner pressure like Melty Blood. UNIEL does but in that game, a good defense heavily rewards the defender.

Uniel/Unist has a super interesting pressure game, because technically almost all options to open up people are reactable in some ways, but you can't be ready for everything. Standing overheads are completely reactable (netplay excluded) with something like 26f startup on average. Assaults are reactable, but unless you take a risk in shielding or mashing out AA against them they'll effectively reset pressure. Throw setups are reactable and the reward for throws is huge - defender is +8 right next to attacker and can freely start their pressure - but there's many ways to bait techs in what looks like a throw setup or bait the several different (intended) anti-throw OSes. You could also just mash out of throw or pressure reset setups, since as a rule everything is minus on block so if you read the string ending you can mash out, but pressure tends to have frametraps in it everywhere as a basic rule so guess wrong and get fucked. This isn't even getting into shield and GRD war which is a whole other layer of shit on top of that, it's just an incredibly interactive way of doing pressure in general and gives you many ways of dismantling what your enemy is doing on a read.

It's even scarier when you start to notice some characters don't even need to be right next to you to use their overhead like in most games. Gordeau players usually stay right next to someone for pressure but he can safely keep someone at bay mid screen. Then there are characters with moves that can cross you up like Hyde's 66C. Or he could just 66B to start his pressure instead of crossing up. Throws in this game really hurt too and some can even combo off of them in the corner like Hyde and I believe Gordeau.

Kanji and Shadow Labrys. SL was my main and I think her unique playstyle would be a good entry. Kanji is just fun to use.

I always thought RWBY was autistic shit, but to be honest I've got a little bit of a soft spot for it now after Monty was tragically murdered by his gold digging wife so I don't mind it being included.

Hyde 66C doesn't really crossup since it triggers crossup protection, whatever he cancels it into will but that's very reactable. It's mostly used to chase backdash or dodge reversals. Hyde in general has absurdly scary corner pressure for a character without a practical ground overhead or a command grab, just because his throw gives him corner combos, his throw baits are all extremely good and he has that 6B[1] 5[C] string which combos on hit into big damage, starts off 6B which is very fast for its range & has enough range to hit after shenanigans like throw setup, bait with backdash then 6B, frametraps, has the luxury of being +6 or something on block when you whiffcancel the 5[C] into 2A, and loops into itself once or twice before getting pushed out. And he chips you for a bit during this. Hyde is nuts.

If we just abandoned the land everytime something awful happened then the whole world would be off limits.

There hasn't been a single Arc System Works game with a season pass and they been giving away DLC characters in xrd temporarily for free. Plus they rarely announce DLC before the game releases, it's been always after release.
ASW may jew it up, but this is 100% Bamco's style of jewing this time. Bamco is the one that announces season passes months before launch.

Anji and Robo-Ky seem to be the most likely given Anji was in Baiken's story mode and Robo-Ky is both a prominent story character and already partially modeled. People have been theorizing Zappa could return but he exorcised his ghosts so they'd need some huge ass pull to get him in, or he'd be so different they might as well make a new character.

I don't think Justice will be back given she's like 500ft tall in the story mode and was destroyed by Third King "I've got to kill the universal will" Daryl.

I hadn't considered Order Sol before, but the conversation he had with Ky in after story A specifically drew attention to the Crusades and Ky told him he could learn from battlefield tactics, so he's certainly not impossible.

R. Ky (arcade release), Anji (arcade update or console), Justice (jacko edition, day 1 free console dlc), and Zappa (down the line console dlc) are probably going to be the vets we get next main revision. They've all been featured in the story and R.Ky especially is wanted by Daisuke himself. My guess is the last XX vets we'll be getting back are Holy Order Sol and Kliff, since they're both noncanon.

Spoilers from the story if anyone cares; What actually happened is that Jack-O merged with Justice via Axl stopping time and giving Sol the time he needed to complete said merge, turning Jack-O into a new Aria. Considering that Aria was the Core of Justice (and was once "human sized"), I feel like they're going to do some sort of asspull where the new Aria can summon the overdrive armor (or whatever it's called) to bring Justice back. Hence why I think human sized Justice will be at least shown in the next installment.

Daiskue did say at one point he wanted to bring everyone back, and I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of retconning and illogical bullshit had to be done in the story in order for it to happen.

I just had a brief daydream of playing the new cross tag game with a team of Justice and Arakune. Mains top tier. Might have played Gordeau in previous versions. While slightly gimmicky his understanding of the neutral game is solid, but he prefers pressuring. Being able to stay patient and defend well is the mark of a good Phonon, bad Phonons will crack and try to get out somehow.

Likes shenanigans and going full retard. A lot. His neutral game is madness mixed with patience. But in the end, even though his character is objectively shit he really just has a lot of fun playing the game and playing Mika.

The new generation of Akafags, but considerably more technical. Instead of complaining about his character's weakness, he invests a lot of time in learning and researching what Enkidu can do. Memorizes hitboxes and frame data, but isn't afraid to just press buttons or make hard reads anyway.

Dominant, oppressive player who loves being on the offense and making other people block. In short, he likes gorillas. Smug, at least in private. Will always complain about Wagner's neutral game. Changes his waifu every month.

Was A tier in the initial ST release, last time I heard he's hovering around bottom 5 as of Wagner/Enkidu release but that's probably because the characters below him got buffed. He's still very much worth playing, just has the classic infighter problems he's always had including a few nasty matchups. What they mostly changed in ST was making him strong enough up close to offset his problems at getting in. EL Akatsuki was mostly considered bad because for all of his problems getting in he wasn't really noticably better up close than other, more well rounded characters, and because his midscreen combos were shit (either no oki or no damage)

They also mention its an Alpha version of FSE, an even earlier prototype. Moreover, Seth was constantly re-calibrating her SF4 FSE to streamline that power and collect data on her opponents. With him gone that obviously wouldnt happen. So, really a power reduction makes sense in canon.
She does and it did. the FSE just amplified her power and gave her fireballs. Hence the muted color palette for her moves in SFV opposed to SF4 and the lack of such powerful fireballs. Since its a different FSE that isnt calibrated to her specifically she wouldnt be able to use it the same way. Outside of that, her normals are pretty much the same and she still has her pinwheel in a sense, so it would be reasonable to assume that she knows these techniques still its just that this new FSE is limiting her or wasnt meant for her. It sucks and I prefer the SF4 version, sure, but it makes sense given what is stated in canon not just in SFV but SF4 as well.

There isn't a lot of distance between bottom 5 and A tier in UNIST, the tier lists only go from like S to B. Akatsuki in ST is better than his old self by leaps and bounds and can actually do his job now without getting outclassed by Hyde or similar.

Dear god this was eye cancer to read zoomed in or not.

I don't have any direct quotes but I am under the impression that japan in general doesn't really like Zappa's playstyle which is why I would be worried about they overhauling his entire kit.

What makes Zappa fun and drew me to him it that he's a stance character that both the player and opponent don't have a lot of control over as to which stance he will adopt. Of those three normal stances he has what I have described as bootleg tools; The Dog makes him a discount Eddie, the Sword makes his rushdown a bit stronger and in +r gives him another puppet to manipulate at range, and the ghosts give him some zoning options that can persist on hit to mess up his opponents moments and actions.

Then he has his Orbs which is his payoff for landing certain hits and being able to stay possessed since getting hit will desummon them.

Then is Raoh which is the one ghost I don't think they will change since the reward for playing the Orb game with Zappa's normal stances is to grant him a very potent and reliable spirit.

My biggest concerns is that they will take away the "random" nature of how summons work and opt for a system where he can choose his summons or has them on a fixed rotation. I don't really know what they meant by "tricky" when it relates to Zappa since he has a couple of things that fit that definition. New ghosts would be welcomed but I'll miss the sword as it's my favorite of the normal ones. Losing Raoh entirely is the worst case as they could decide to remove the orbs entirely. It's a sad state to be in not knowing if they even like him enough to put him in and what they will do to him seeing as I don't really like the Baiken update.

X-Kira found that the 3 DLC characters were almost done in everything but only missing their skeleton models. You could say Capcom purposely left them without it to prevent a SFxT situation.
Other than that, you have that Nintendo guy with self proclaimed inside info talking about the nightmarish development of the game and saying that the 3 characters were done and tested before the game was in "gold status".

Most big developers and publishers does this to avoid backlash. Like one of the first DBFZ trailers had as thumbnail a space stage that still today it wasn't announced or shown. But in those GameInformer videos and interviews they say that Tenshinhan is still being worked on with that static neutral pose making people believe they work only one character at time and not multiple ones but with focus on a few to show something to the press. The 24 launch characters and 8 DLC ones are a lock probably for many months even if the DLC ones are not in actual production besides their names written in some whiteboard at the workplace.
