The best way i can describe western design philosophy is to have the player allowed to do as much as possible, market it as a game about choices, and have everything you can do be an underdeveloped, awful feeling mechanic
I'd rather have a fun arcade racer with solid drifting and great tracks like daytona usa than need for speed the run which for some reason has on foot sections.
