If you work hourly then you are guaranteed overtime under very specific and well-defined guidelines.. Taking a SALARY job means they will pay you X amount per month, no matter how much work you do. This is a contract, and is common for any middle/upper management, otherwise they would have to log time for everytime someone calls you for 5 minutes because something isn't right on the weekend.

I understand the difference between what salary pay and hourly pay is. Developer jobs that are hourly don't really exist as far as I can tell - unless you count QA as dev work. As far as I can tell, this is done specifically to avoid pay spikes near the end of milestones when devs/management realized they underestimated the amount of work it would take to deliver on promises and have to buckle down for some all-nighters. Probably a multitude of other reasons.

Either way, certainly not 'everybody', and definitely not devs. Overtime goes unpaid in the game development industry. If not everywhere, it's certainly a heavy majority.
